FUN FACT/CORRECTION = All "new" tracks are ripped from another licensed EA Sports game of the time: Superbikes 2001, made by the Milestone guys. Sugo, Valencia, Oschersleben, Misano, Donington Park and Brands Hatch were all used in that game.

@@GPLaps lots of tracks were ripped out of other games , but not mentioned because of copywrites though most were heavily reworked so were scratch built , still using the stock F1 displays and steering and so the limited rotation from F1 . I like many tried out the many versions of the GTR versions that led to this version. still not 24 hrs night day transitions . you needed a beefy PC to run a full field of cars back in 2001.
It was hard modding games back then , at least Simbin used their own installer which saved self editing files in game . of course it was not uncommon , to combine this GTR mod with the Le , Mans GT1 mod , of course I also spent hrs having to re-install a broken game after messing a file up. one of the other limits with the F1 2000 game was no normal analogue gauges , several teams tried to solve that one , but that was only solved after F1 Challenge 99-2002 arrived this shared the same game engine as the Nascar game and that supported both digital and Analogue displays and that was a major deal for older racing mods like the Turbo F1 mode and several other mods . those SIM Bin forum guys were always helpful with some also working with other modding teams at this time.
Simbin and the Virtual LM teams had some of the best talent out there in modding at that time.
Jesus I spent some long evenings around these teams on MSN and forums doing testing and helping find information on cars.
it was always interesting at that time returning home from work , then checking around the different forums to see what was knew . a new GT car or Touring car . old F1 cars and so forth. also back in the days of Blackhole Motorsports web pages and Racesim forums .
      all so long ago now.
but never the less good memories thanks.

@@jspoons6619 Although a lot of tracks were "ripped" the amount of work that went back into them meant it was almost a false economy ripping, getting accurate track layouts were a big deal back then as we never had Google Maps etc to get sat pics, it was good old fashioned pictures and vid reference only, a world apart from the tech we have now.

This mod actually has its roots in a Sports Car GT mod. A guy named Marco Demontis made a great set of FIA GT cars for SCGT, and shortly after F1 2001 came out he put out the same car pack for F1 2001. That retroactively became the "FIA GT Mod V1." Marco then disappeared from the scene for a while, and a few other folks released physics updates for the mod, one of which was made by some folks at Simbin (which was just a website/message board at the time). There were some really nasty fights over which of the physics updates was best. The Simbin effort eventually evolved into a re-release of the original pack as "FIA GT Mod V2," which may or may not have had permission from the original author, and the Simbin folks re-branded themselves as SBDT. The original author eventually joined SBDT and worked on the GTR 2002 mod.
I don't think Roos linked up with SBDT until after GTR 2002. I think he was primarily a financial investor who helped them make the jump from a modding team to a full-fledged game dev.

    • @EricBoosman
      @EricBoosman 3 месяца назад

Although definitely using Marco's cars, it's worth pointing out the V1 mod wasn't just a car pack, and got its popularity largely because of the efforts of the whole team, Doug doing physics work, Ian testing the physics and feeding back, plus hyping everything up, Neil Walker's installer made it basically a one click installation (which was a MASSIVE improvement over the piecemeal way you had to assemble your builds back then), the audio work from Stephen Baysted, and then even the basic UI reskinning I did, and the high res reskinning of the vehicles from myself and others that came on the team over time. The V1 already had its own flavor that kept getting better and better in V2, V3, and GTR2002.
And you're right, Henrik Roos came to us after seeing GTR2002 and having fun driving around as himself in the game. He brought investors and we jumped at the chance to make a living doing the same thing we'd been doing in our spare time for the previous 3+ years.

As a newer simracer, learning about the history of this wonderful discipline has been fascinating. Thank you for covering this niche, as specific as it is. I was aware of the famous classics (rF1, GPL, GTR2 etc) but your comprehensive and well-edited presentation of slightly more obscure, older games & their background makes your channel really special.
I sometimes wish there was an official FIAWEC game today, like there is for WRC and F1. It's great that all sorts of sims/games have LMPs and the like, but they lack the authenticity of a licensed game. Now that we're in the increasingly popular Hypercar era, maybe there is hope...

Just a correction: the "SimBin that we know", the one that developed Race07, is not the team that developed GTR2. At the time, SimBin were splitting up and most devs parted with Ian Bell to create "Blimey! Games" (now SlightlyMadStudios). That is the studio mostly responsible for creating GTR2, and it was really like 2 people from "the SimBin that we know" that also worked on the title.
Right after developing GTR2, EA scouted the talent from Blimey and hired them to make a couple Need For Speed games, and they also developed a game for Ferrari IIRC.

@@Dethmeister Because after the original SinBim split there were only like 2 of the main dev core left, which helped to develop GTR2, but most of the devs parted ways and followed Ian Bell to create "Blimey!", which is the company that made GTR2.
After developing GTR2, Blimey went to work for EA, and the couple of people left in SimBin went to create Race07.

    • @PhantomMark

What you fail to mention is the core feeling of Simbin was retained for the Physics for Simbin titles moving forwards, as I never went with the split side of the team, nor did 5 or so others.....Doug Arnao who authored the physics for GTR2002 and GTR1, GTR2, and GTL went with Ian, I remained with Simbin as there was no room for 2 physics guys, I authored the official Ferrari 360 Challenge addon for GTR2002 and a few other official addon cars, so while you say Race/Race07 onwards nothing to do with the original Simbin that isn't strictly too at all, as I authored them.
There was more than 2 of us left after the split :)

37:56 some trivia: this Porsche is in the mod because it raced the Spa 24 hours in the "Local" class. it's technically a GT1 car, and in the Belcar (the Belgian championship), they shared the same class. but under FIA GT rules, they were restricted because of the turbo engine (it's a Porsche Bi-Turbo by PSI), so they wouldn't have been competitive
also, Sugo is in Project Cars 2

The biggest struggle i'v had with GTR1 was the wheel physics, i could either drive safe, but be like 10 seconds slower than the A.I or if i as much as even think of trying to push it harder i understeered alot, forcing me to slowing it down to a crawl speed or it suddenly with out any warning spin out, and there was like no forgiveness , and even trying to do the correction, it was impossible .
It was quite frustration not knowing if i was being a complete idiot or something else was wrong, and it didn't help when the A.I didn't struggle at all.
So then one day, i copied the tire physics files which is 13 *.tyr files in total from GTR2 to GTR1, and suddenly i felt like i could actually drive, and not like a nervous gambling game where the car would spin out , clutch will kill me and spin me out, throttle had 0.5% too much throttle and i spin out, or the car didnt do anything and just jump into the wall.
I don't know way GTR1 treated me like a bully who will kick me in my groan and spit in my face every day in school , but GTR2 is like that cheerful friend who says every day "Come on.. you can do it.! i believe in you :D"

    4. Thruxton
    And for the Italians:
    1. Mugello
    2. Monza
    3. Enna-Pergusa
Yeah, I don't exactly get excited about the current versions of Imola or Silverstone.

Did anybody ever find a way to let you adjust your FOV in these old pre-rFactor ISI games? The lack of a FOV slider really hurts the game imo. Also does this mod work for F1 1999-2002?

      @Maxellero 2 года назад

Yes, there is a way. You have to go to "Save" folder, open "default.cfg" and in LocalCam=COCKPIT change the FOV to what you want.

I just played it, why I can play practice session only not the rest of other session? Do somebody have it's solution?

Very kool, But it makes me sad a bit, And the reason why please don't take nothing bad from this im just going from the likes to sub count, I really thought more people liked the older sim racing, but obviously not,
Great content my man respect 👍

It was released during a Formula One race. Nobody watches stuff the instant it's out, but especially not during races. I know channels with 3 million subs who get 40K views per vid, but on the flip side I have 90ish subs and have videos with 400K views. *shrugs*
