Oh my goodness - I was at this race! I got a ticket as an 11th birthday present and me and my dad went for the whole weekend. I remember my programme got destroyed by the rain so I've had no keepsake from this race and have not seen anything of it for nearly 23 years - thankyou so much for this!
@@MontyMotorsport I was at the event too (i was 15 at the time), one thing the footage can't show was just how cold it was, the wind was howling through the grandstands at one point. @Dave Commentator, bad luck, my programme did thankfully survive and i still have it in my collection.
I remember watching this very show in 1997 and thinking the outro bit with "Only Happy When It Rains" was ultra cool. First time I've seen it since then!
What an unbelievable amount of rain hahaha..... those cars were putting tails of water out of the back of their cars almost resembling Jet Skis! Hahaha
While I bemoan the frequent occurance of the safety car in modern F1 there is no way this race should have restarted when it did. Just a multitude of accidents waiting to happen!
I had the rear wing from that crashed mclaren and a headlight from the viper for years! Mum gave it to a charity auction about 15 years ago….hope its in someones home still and not in the skip 🫣

What rules apply to headlight usage? Is it only the podium position cars? Is it a must when raining? Totally optional at all times?
Driver's discretion according to conditions unless declared wet race or night by stewards of the race, then its compulsory. 👍🏁
