This entire 1997 Championship was crazy in retrospect. Racing is too predictable these days. Within a few minutes at the 4:00 mark there were two fires and a spin.
Thank you! Much appreciated as always. I wasn't into racing until quite recently - it was a different world back then. Casually showing written-off F1 GTRs, flaming cars cruising about calmly looking for a fire-marshal (dressed in a T-shirt!). Amazing.
fia gt championship in 1997 and from 2005 to 2009 has to be some of the best racing i have ever seen i like 1998 season but clk gtr and clk lm were too dominant
you stand a chance to be scared/confused/shocked every time you watch races prior to the 2000s. that's a lot of fire compared to these days. appreciate the upload. thanks!
You blame the FIA rule makers for making it too easy for Manufacturers like Porsche and Mercedes-Benz to make sport prototypes that are just about able to pass road regulations to be eligible for GT1.
I have a request: could you try to talk with the copyrights holders of the BPR Global GT Series and try to reupload your BPR videos? I´m saying this because, Eurosport did the best coverage of the Suzuka 1000KM and it´s the video that I loved the most. Just saying, no pressure
Its not Eurosport or SRO, I had copyright problem with. It's not clear who has final say on the copyright. You have the circuits, the organiser, the broadcaster, the production company and others. In this case "other" asked me to take them down. It's not worth the fight.
No-one can say for sure, all we have for a guide is how it compared at Le Mans it was close to the 911 GT1, and very competitive but the CLK GTR wasn't there so I think it would have been competitive, I just don't know quite how competitive but I think it would have been quicker than the Lotus Elise, and, the Panoz. Possibly around the performance of the Porches 911 GT1, and, McLaren F1 GTR possibly slightly quicker, however I think the CLK GTR would be ahead of it.
Thanks as always Monty! I think this is the second race where Simon Taylor calls the Lotus GT1 with the THAI branding on it 'the Taiwanese Car' - anyone know if he was actually correct? I'm presuming a simple geographical misunderstanding from him (most pedantic question about GT1 racing ever!)

If I'm getting this right... You enjoy watching talented people almost die in violent crashes?
@@SiamHossain7 You invented something in your mind there.

I got lots more to come! 👍🏁

Wow alot of incidents in this race😮
Love Simon Taylor's descriptionz of the race "getting it all wrong" And there's a jeep on the track " are priceless😅😊
This race alone has more drama than the entire 2020 and 2021 F1 seasons together.
If only the F50 GT had made it to this series.

Great work ! Keep em coming :) Many thanks !
What a start to a race! Although the commentator (name escapes me) twice called the lovely liveried Thai Lotus "Taiwanese".
Yep (Simon Taylor - superb commentator) - I am reasonably confident he just had a basic geography misunderstanding.
The best racing ever
i know that day was hot and all but this is just ridiculous on the amount of cars catching on fire
best gt championship
Drink everything he says "well and truly"
top vid thanks for sharing
Apart from runner up at Le-Mans, 1997 was a disaster for Gulf/Davidoff Mclaren.
But winner of the Le Mans GT1 class 👍🏁 Schnitzer BMW McLaren had no titles year end 😒
Lástima que nadie se acuerde de esa victoria de clase gt1 en Le Mans 97. Igual que Toyota en Le Mans 99 en GTP.
Actually against the might of BMW, Mercedes and Porsche I'd say they did ok given that they were 3rd in the constructors title they beat Porsche.
carnage everywhere XD

@@MontyMotorsport Sorry, I was just saying. Thanks
Would the Nissan R390 have been competitive and equally fast as these GT1 cars if it was in this series?
