  • Ping i530 irons combine a thin face, hollow body and classic looks to create a better-player's distance iron that delivers more ball speed, distance and forgiveness. I got fit for Ping i530 irons at Ping's headquarters in Phoenix, and the ball speed jump was shocking. Could the i530 irons help your game?

I got the rogues a couple years ago and I’m changing to these. Hit them at my lesson today so was able to try different lie angles and shafts. These just felt so solid. Came off the face so clean sounded great. Can’t wait to get out and hit them.

Thinking of getting fitted for these after this season.

Why don't they make GI irons with minimal (blade level) offset?

Because golfers who need the forgiveness of a game-improvement iron almost universally hit shots more solidly with some offset. Not everyone, I'll admit, but most. Playing irons with almost no offset sounds macho, but even tour pros have some offset on their irons.

Better player iron? I would hesitate to hand this club to a better player with a 42° pitching wedge with a flexible thin face. Not dismissing the iron, but low spin, huge ball speed and distance is not the recipe for scratch to 6 handicap golfers.

Totally fair comment. It’s really more of a better players distance iron I thought that’s what I wrote in the head. I’ll make the change now. Thanks for bringing it up. All the same, I think a lot of single-digit handicap players could really like it. - DD

retro lofts specs would be my plan. the modern lofts are too strong

@@cwugrad396 that’s one of the very cool things about going through a fitting for Ping irons. You can go with the standard lofts, the Retro spec or the Power spec. - DD

@@DavidDusek i have a set of i230 retro lofts. love them. are they long? no. are they are straight and very consistent? absolutely. too much ego in big distances but not accuracy

PW is just a label on the bottom of the club. I have my own gripes with how Ping is deciding to label these, but how they’re labeled do not eliminate sections of golfers. However, a section of golfers may eliminate them from their selection without even trying them due to it. This is also a mistake.

Why not spending your money with a good teacher instead of buying new clubs ?

Investing in instruction is always a great idea. That said, technologies like the ones found in these irons can help golfers maintain distance as they get older and their swings get slower. Something like the i530 can also act as a great bridge club between a genuine game-improvement iron and a better-player’s iron as a golfer improves. - DD
