Star Citizen is an in-development multiplayer space trading and combat simulation game. The game is being developed and published by Cloud Imperium Games for Microsoft Windows. An extended retry of unrealized plans for Freelancer, Star Citizen is being led by director Chris Roberts.

Since I haven't seen it in the comments yet, the Herald is not just intended to run the data... in the Drake fashion of riding right on the edge of the law... the Herald is intended to be a ship that you can hack data from other ships with (which is what that support computer is supposed to be for), then use those massive engines to run the data in to port to sell faster than the ship it stole from. It will be able to take maps and nav data from the explorer ships, then race back to port to literally be a herald with the information.
A follow-up... good ships to get out in around celestial bodies to look around would be the 325a with that big canopy window on the ceiling (I love to invert over microtech to see the horizon), the cutlass black or the valkyerie with the side doors, or the caterpillar from the cargo containers.

So back in the day the Herald was so fast that you could literally black out and die from the G-force if you went max speed.
Can confirm. You use to be able to overheat the big engine but not the little one and start flipping like crazy. I really enjoyed that feature but I couldn't get it to work right the other day.. not sure if they "fixed" that.
Those were the days mate. It would go from zero to max in less than two seconds.
I took that ugly beauty everywhere back then.
That was before any of the planets were in, and we only had the moons and
G- Hex, and Port Olisar was the only place to spawn. Or is my memory dying from in game old age?

My first experience of logging out of ship was next to a space station, then waking up in middle of the solar system where the sun was.

Herald still has my favorite small ship interieor. Just looks so much like Old-School SciFi designs (Alien, Star Wars etc.)
I like the mechanical design of this ship. Detailed and rugged, lovely charm.
* They clean your windshield when you repair the ship.
* The Drake Herald (like the MSR, Terrapin, and Corsair) will be able to "steal" data and then sell it. They are "Data Hacking" ships. The Herald steals data and uses speed to get away whereas the Terrapin uses its armor to not only hide its IR signature but uses it to defend itself. Neither are heavily armed for those reasons.
* You can use landing pads at different planet/moon facilities to repair, restock and refuel your ship. So yes, there is a reason to use those pads.
* Your landing gear was just up. You could have put them down and landed. It does that atm to all ships where you log out on the surface of a planet/moon.
Could you provide a source for the statement regarding the Corsair being able to steal data? This is something I have not heard or seen of.
@@ThomasGail The description was given when they first showed the overhead cutaway of the interior of the ship. It was explained that the room to the rear of ship adjacent to the cargo bay had server banks in the center. It was also stated that the Corsair will have a hidden "smuggling" area like the MSR. If you noticed, the copilot's seat drops down to a lower level. So there might be a whole "underfloor" section level with the copilots seat. This is speculation on my part since they didn't state just where the hidden area is on the ship. For these reasons I always likened the Corsair to the MSR instead of what most people thought would be a competitor to the Conny.
I just learn today that you can add the Caterpillar to the list of data running ships (as per Inforunner's "Daily Drivers" video).

This is the only ship I need, and this is precisely the very first ship I will own in the verse (aside from the starter ship, of course). It irradiates Cowboy Bebop vibes so much and I love it
I absolutely love the RSI 3xx customization and hope they apply this to other ship customization, either with the site or in-game. It is awesome when bed log works and we can wake up where we logged! The window of that ship is unacceptably dirty. If windows get dirty/scratched that's okay but that should clear up with repair or perhaps there could be a 'cleaning' we could do outside of repair.
I love it when Ollie does reviews of ships. I'm also interested to see some of the new jobs like data running. The more jobs available the better.

The support seat is basically an engineering station as of right now.
The ship does wobble if you fly too fast in atmos as well.
It's the Orison friendly ship. It's about as good as you can get for zipping about though and the design is so reminiscent of some of the coolest attack helicopters. The interior is great as well - it looks functional and realistic.
I had a ship blow away when i forgot to put the landing gear back down. I was stranded, but it turned out ok as i made some new friends.
The first thing that happens with the ship, gear malfunction, yeah it's totally was made by Drake.
At least the front didn't fall off lmao
The Herald seems to be very nicely detailed inside and outside. Love it.
Say what you will about Star Citizen but the devs have excellent taste when it comes to detail
The herald is actually the fastest ship in terms of SCM speed, not speed in quantum travel
Played around with a few 300i variants, lovely ship.
Even good for combat although it's so easy to take damage on the wing which can make atmospheric flight impossible.
I love the Herald , i get real Helicopter vibes from the inside of it , Cant wait for it to get a proper role and place in the game that will make it useful

Definitely a crazy looking ship. Data has the potential of being really interesting judging from some of the forum ideas I’ve seen.

Every time I see this ship I just think, Red Dwarf Bug. I don't even know why, it doesn't really look like it but it just reminds me of it. :)
When you first opened the door whille low flying, I thought you didn't have any pants on. I thought, "Hey! I've had that same dream!"
Olli, eventually(read: years) data running will be an entire profession. Data running ships will typically be able to access other ships computer systems to trade data. Hacking will also be possible. Data will be it's own commodity. Things like hidden jump point coordinates, and other exploration map data will be tradeable from say a Carrack to the Herald or MSR.
Good summary. I can't wait for that to come in. Soon (tm).

For what it's worth I frequently have to go up to the loft (using a ladder) with a box, so if it's a glitch, the it's a RL glitch too lol!
Freezing/Crashes are caused by page file running out. Up your page file to at least half the entire size of your RAM loadout, so if you have 32GB of RAM make sure your page file on your main drive/installation drive is at 16GB. If you have 64GB of RAM make sure your page file is 32GB of RAM. I had the exact same issues whenever shaders tried to cache and the page file was full or the temp folders on the main drive were filled with junk data. Clean out your temp folder and up your page file; I haven't had a freezing issue whenever I conduct those basic maintenance needs for Star Citizen. Excellent content by the way.
Herald in PVP will catch a lot of Bounty hunters by surprise... you can't run from it.. its so great
I doubt bounty hunters will want to run from it since they're usually kitted out for a fight and this thing aint no fighter.

lol I feel the same man. I just started 4 days ago, and the game was already impressive (for a 10 yr. alpha lol) but to start right before this patch is perfect. I literally have nothing to lose lol. Loving the vids, keep it up. That ship looks like they put 2 rocket engines on an Apache Helicopter lol

There's usually a multitool and tractor beam attachment you can loot at the outposts. They are in the white boxes.
The only reason you didn't fall through the planet when you logged in was because you had left your engines on! The ship and gravity always load before the terrain. The exception seems to be landing pads at outposts, you can log out on them relatively safely.. although there's always a chance that your ship spawns inside another ship if someone happens to be landed there on the server you join.

@@darkdruidsvale yeah it's only happened to me a couple of times. In the C2 I was actually able to decouple from the random ship's wreckage, and just repaired at the same pad. He was inside dropping off a box, so I gave the guy a ride back to the station.

Sometimes i can wake up with landing gear out, engines off, my food in the freezer, a gun in a rack or a table, armour in a closet...etc
Somewhat lucky in the beginning that the ship did not get blown away by the wind :)

used to be that if you logged out on your ship on the surface of a moon or planet , when you respawned you would fall through the surface when you exited the ship. I tried to drive a MULE under that same overhand you landed your ship against and it blew up!
If I ever get the ship in game I will refer to it as "The Goose"

You got that completely wrong, the Herald doesn't have a huge engine on the back, the Herald is an engine with a tiny cockpit in the front.
Those tiny wings crack me up, it's like they took a normal ship but shrunk the wings and supersized the thruster.
And yes completely agree! Space trucking, at least in this game, is so calming that I even watch videos of people doing it sometimes to chill or even nap.

Yeah I don't have gear when relogging in when I bunk n my ship either. Plus, just experienced my first ship floating away yesterday n thank goodness it floated into a hill and landed itself. Was stuck for a good 10 minutes trying to jump back onto my ship from a good angle lmao.

Ok, so...
Data Running: Mainly Top Secret information you don't want to send via open comms for anyone moderately capable in hacking to grab, and Data comming from systems where there are no Com-Sats and Jump Points (the structures that stabilize wormholes and allow for data transfers across systems) or at least where there is no connection to another system with Com-Sats and Jump Points in between, as far as I understand the job description. Think like rural areas where you don't get cell phone connection and no landline is anywhere near in sight, but if you're lucky once in a blue moon a postman makes a stop at your mailbox. The Herald is that Postman.
The wings will basically be for steering in atmosphere, similar to the fins of rockets.
And for a ship this size the quantum fuel is actually pretty nice. It's about the size of an Avenger Titan after all.
Yes, you can climb ladders while holding a box. I presume that at some point it might become a question of weight if you can hold the box with one hand/arm or not while climbing with the other, but for now it's no issue at all.
You only lose boxes when entering a ship with no interior to stand in, like a Mustang Alpha.
I have never seen this wobbling before! It looked like the FlyByWire-System turned off when you left your seat with only velocity and aerodynamics keeping you on course somewhat.
Also congratulations! You're the first streamer I saw doing that "look out the door"-thing WITHOUT accidently leaving the ship...
I did started 10 missions in star citizen - bought game because of your clips, and did finish 1. All 9 of them was me losing all my armor and weapons to bugs and impossible bugs (died on station food court and my body dispawned, died in cave without exit and could not loot my body (or drag it anywhere), died when stomping out of my ship (0.1m of height), or my personal favor - after 2h mission of collecting 4 boxes server did crash and i lost all progress of mission, my body and my ship).
You can say how great game it is, and maybe it will be one day. For me now it is biggest dump after fallout 76 (fallout is first because it was released) but only slightly because it was much cheaper. From what i can sense it will be subscription based insurance when they will sort some bugs with ships destruction.
After the success of the Corsair surely they HAVE to bring back the assymetry for this ship. The inside looks fantastic. Just wish I had my Star Wars-esque data assymetric design back.

I don't understand why SC devs think that combat isn't close enough in its present state. Any closer and they'd be clipping into you.
Looking forward to proper persistence where things like the console settings in the ships and landing gears stay in the state you last used them. Then bed logging on planet surfaces will be all good finally.

You need the game at least and try free flight on 3.18 to see if your pc might handle it

Pretty sure that ship is based off a ship I saw in an art book from the 70's I found at school when I was a kid. Very similar.
Good ‘Test Planet’ for experiments. Not too many obstacles
At least some ships allow climbing ladders with a box. May as well enjoy it while it lasts, works on my Freelancer also. Also, "an actual landing pad" lets you restock your vehicle. :p

waking up with no landing gear is def one of the things I can't wait to see fixed. I wake up in my 400i alot and it feels like im in an earthquake, and I always forget why.
It's a step up from, waking up on a planet only to have your ship clip through the terrain till it explodes. EDIT: Also CIG, fix the damn coffee machine and food processor already!

a more legal way to use it is by transfering data from a system to another as radio wave ( or whatever we use un SC to transfer info on a systeme) can t travel in a jump point as you need to open and travel it. so that ship is use to trasnfer from one side to the other. also can hack / stole data. or just transport sensible data that you don t want everyone taping on in if you try to transfer via satelite etc

So interesting how year or two ago we’ve heard that sc is a massive scam. I backed it very early on (when we only had hangar and no universe at all), I believe I’ve got both sc and squadron 42 for like 60$. But to this day I totally enjoy the game and find some time in my schedule every single patch. I got it cheaper than half the AAA games in my steam library and got so many more hours out of it. I guess it’s safe to call it sc phenomena. I get the frustration from people who spent thousands on it, they were expecting to be op whales as soon as possible but it’s not what it’s about. It’s a sim. And when people say oh you have to buy ships to play the game., no you buy the game and can earn for more ships in game. Microsoft flight sim is 100$ and you have to buy planes and can’t buy planes In game.
question, of the current starter bundles which would you recommend for a complete noob such as myself?
@@darkdruidsvale if you can, go with avenger sc & squadron 42 pack. If not or not interested in squadron just go with avenger package. Right now it’s the most versatile ship in the game and best to learn combat and delivery missions. Tier up would be cutlass black pack (great in combat, easily accessible for delivery missions, has ok cargo for cargo runs). Unfortunately can’t recommend aurora and mustang. You can start with them but grind till you can buy ship in game would be pretty long.

@@darkdruidsvale not necessarily. I’m on ryzen 7, and 1660 works like a charm. But was also perfectly fine with ryzen 5 and 1050ti. Ssd is a must tho. Will struggle a bit in the beginning when shaders compile but then will work fine In 1080p high graphics settings.

I imagine they send data in physical form because FTL works on vehicles, but maybe not on data(at least not in large amounts)
