This video was really helpful. I've recently enrolled with the OU to do a module access course first and then starting BA hons next October, I'm 29 mum to 3, luckily I'm a stay at home mum while my husband works, and I can get a student loan for tuition fees too. I'm really excited to get started
This is a very helpful video, thank you. I enrolled earlier this week and can't wait to get started - in the meantime searching out other people's experience with the OU and found you :)
+Deb Scudder Thanks so much, that is very kind of you. So great to hear that my video was helpful! So glad you enrolled, wishing you the very best of luck (:
+grant cossey I’m not much help on this front I’m sorry, all I can tell you is the following: I did my first 2 years using a Mac which worked perfectly. The instructions are written for both Mac & PC, I have had no compatibility probs either, as I used Word for assessments. Now I use a Windows laptop and again, no issues and everything is compatible with my tutors.
great video! please.can you do. a study with me series? Ie, tips on note taking /essay writing/referencing ect? I think the OU is slightly different so would massively be helpful
Samantha Thanks so much for taking the time to watch my video and comment. I have had some great feedback and am very passionate about my studies with the OU. Your idea is a great one, hopefully if the video gets enough views and support I can look in to doing more (:
Hey Sam. I'm thinking of studying Psychology with the open university this year. Is it possible to start off studying 30 credits (part time) then change your mind if you want to get it done quicker? I'm thinking to ease into it too as I haven't studied in a while. But will most likely want to speed it up once I'm into it.
Hey, that is fab, thanks for the comment. I started off doing 30 credits the first year to ease in to it. I don’t think you can add another course once the year begins, unless a module has a Feb presentation. You can choose more modules the next year though like I did if you find the 30 credits easy enough. I’m not an admissions expert though so may be worth dropping the team an e-mail to check (: Good luck with your studies!
I'm thinking of taking an Education (Primary School) Degree on OU :) So far I like what I'm hearing, but I've also heard a lot of comments of there being a lot of rude tutors in the school, not to mention a slow reply time. Is that true?
I have had 6 different tutors in my time there, ranging from certificate level to degree. All have been a different style to one another but I can honestly say in my experience that they have been excellent. I have found them fair, supportive and responsive (:
Hello :) I'm starting the Physics Bsc in October. In the degree, do they teach any sort of coding/programming and have you done any sort of practical work during the degree?
Hello & congrats on starting!! Yes in year 2 there’s a practical module that includes some coding. I’ve also managed to do some group work with a telescope, an X-ray machine and several things remotely!
I studied with the OU from 1996 to 1999 and got an Electrical Engineering degree with honours. I got 60 points transfered as I had a higher national diploma in Electrical Engineering so only 300 points required. I did 120 then 120 then 60 in the final year but I chose subjects at a higher level so I could qualify for an Honours degree
+Justin White Yes there are plenty of exercises! Some in the text books, with additional problems on your Student Homepage, as well as links to more. I always feel like I have plenty of practise for each topic. General aspects are covered, you are allowed to select to an extent the topics you are most interested in as time goes on. If you look at the Physics pathway on the OU website you can look at what each module covers (: Good luck!
+byron yeates Yes massively, was a fab intro and really helped me get to grips with the way the OU works, whilst being in a manageable-sized chunk. Really happy I did it that way to give myself time to slot back in to academia. Good luck (:
Hi, I am interested in the same program from OU. Can you please tell the eligibility of OU graduate physics degree for applying in Europe or US for MSc of PhD programs. Kindly reply. Thanks
Please, I heard about free online courses with diploma. Do you have any?? I want history or arquiology. I would like also to have one representation in my country (in Africa). Is it possible?
Hi. I would like to know if I can get a grant from my employer if I start studying at Open university. I thinking over about studying at Open University. For example, Can I study full-time? Thank you. If I study part-time who gonna pay for the rest of the course? It is because student finance only provides funding for courses lasting three years, while part-time courses last six years. Thank you. I appreciated your video.
+marija Not currently, I am a Retail Manager. My course adds a completely fresh side and perspective. Hoping to gain some work experience in my field soon.
Hard for me to say, as I do Physics, so it’s more maths than words based sorry! A TMA for me could be 8 pages of work, or if a TMA goes towards my module result, more like 20 as a guide (:
Please do more OU videos! I loved this! Very informative! Thank you!
+Georgina May Dale Thank you! I have just moved house so as soon as I get organised I shall, thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏽
This was incredibly informative, im starting in October and im apprehensive , but you've put things in a really clear way.
Thank you for making this video! I've been looking everywhere for some videos about studying with the OU and you answered all of my questions :)
Really happy it helped 😊
Thank you so much for your review, I saw it very helpful and motivational:) I’m going to start my natural sciences (Physics) in October, can’t wait.
Best of luck, thank you so much 😊
Thank you for sharing! This has been so helpful, I’m just about to start with the OU and you’ve confirmed everything I had been thinking about it 🙌🏼
I’m so glad it helped, thanks for the lovely comment!

Are there problem sets given? Solutions? Are all general aspects of physics covered?
+Justin White Yes there are plenty of exercises! Some in the text books, with additional problems on your Student Homepage, as well as links to more. I always feel like I have plenty of practise for each topic.

Im also looking at doing 30 credits on a access course to start with. Did it help you? and did the 30 credits contribute to your overall degree?
+byron yeates Yes massively, was a fab intro and really helped me get to grips with the way the OU works, whilst being in a manageable-sized chunk. Really happy I did it that way to give myself time to slot back in to academia. Good luck (:
wicked thanks

What area is your current job in? Is it related to your course?
+marija Not currently, I am a Retail Manager. My course adds a completely fresh side and perspective. Hoping to gain some work experience in my field soon.
What's the word count of a typical TMA?
Hard for me to say, as I do Physics, so it’s more maths than words based sorry! A TMA for me could be 8 pages of work, or if a TMA goes towards my module result, more like 20 as a guide (:
Did you do Q77 or Q64?
I started out doing Q64 but then swapped over to Physics R51 when I wanted to go in to a specific career path ☺️
