My Battle With Iron Gwazi | Busch Gardens Tampa - My Experience, July 2022

- Опубликовано: 31 июл 2022
- I made it to Busch Gardens Tampa for the first time in 4 years, mainly to try out America's newest sensation, Iron Gwazi. This was my experience at Busch Gardens on Saturday July 23rd, and my day-long battle with Iron Gwazi around slow rides, weather delays, breakdowns, and ultimately the last ride of the night.

Will walking to parks ever become a credit
In my world yes
How many park walk credits have you gotten?
Am I the only ones who thinks it makes for a great intro haha
Your username is a lie
I had the same exact experience with it. I came off my first ride of the morning really underwhelmed. After my third and fourth rides around dusk, it was my #2, VERY close to Steel Vengeance for the top spot.
I agree, excellent ride, but very clearly #2 to SteVe for me - I think I-Gwazi is getting a lot of exaggerated hype right now just because it's the shiny new toy. Again, not to take anything away from it, but I think that will start to wear off a bit as time goes on.
I like that they’re both absolute beasts, but different. Gwazi is more powerful but SteVe is longer. Both so good I can’t really choose.
Dude, Sophie's reviews have come a long way over just this trip! That's so awesome to see. You're definitely rubbing off on her, especially when she's talking about airtime! 😂
“Whoever was screaming up there, man up.” B r u t a l
"How does anyone find Kumba? Apparently they don't" absolutely hilarious and accurate even on the most packed days.
I struggled with finding Montu, but not Kumba, the alley that you need to go down for the former was a lot less conspicuous than the latter.
@@ianp1745 I didn't mean it was hard to find personally. Just that it's a walk on most of the time and I haven't seen it over 30 min in a long time.
@@scory22 I just misinterpreted what you were saying, no harm meant.
You can hear Kumba from anywhere in the park🤣
@@scory22 I was there a couple weeks ago and it was long as hell bc they ran one train
I can't believe you walked 40 minutes to the park, went from open to close riding those intense coasters all day (and BGT has some of the most intense coasters anywhere), in the middle of summer, and did not get heat sick. That is absolutely amazing to me.
I almost passed out after riding cheetah hunt, Montu, and cobra crypt. I had fun though!
@Junee cheetah hunt is mild compared to Maverick at Cedar point and now Velocicoaster. What do you mean by “most intense coasters” I’m not seeing them really.
@@HondaAccordPerformance I understand that Cheetah Hunt is less intense than Maverick and Velocicoaster (I have ridden all three many times, I have been to most major parks all around the world), but Iron Gwazi, Kumba, and Montu are all very intense coasters. Hence why I said "some of the most intense coasters anywhere"
@@jeffc1347 also I did all three in a row
I dont get how thats a suprise
@Airtime Thrills - So glad you include your daughter in these now. My kids were really crazy so so with roller coasters until last year when we went to Cedar Point. The world class coasters changed their soul from bleh to enthusiast! Sad part is we were there the same time you were and didnt even know it! Keep the vids coming!
ATT Chris: Buys a skip-the-line at every park.
Also ATT Chris: won't splurge for an Uber to the park.
This is what peak coaster enthusiast looks like, people.
I need the overly manly man meme to mock people who order an uber to bypass walking a few miles
@AirtimeThrills you mean Gigachad?
3:43 “Caution Stay Away From This Gate”
*Stands directly next to it*
Hahaha wow i didnt notice that til now
this has been my most anticipated airtime thrills video of the year! i’ve been dying to see what you think about iron gwazi!
Like wise
Sophie rocks. "not worth screaming for . . . man up!" That has got to be one of the best reviews ever. I grew up in Tampa and Scorpion was my very first coaster! I can't believe it's still there. And sort of smooth sounds just like I remember it. Thanks for taking us along for the fun and adventure. Safe travels.
Your tireless work and determination to put out content, walking miles to the parks in the early morning. Amazing stuff man, we really really appreciate your efforts!!
9:57 Sophie’s one word reviews evolved into ten word reviews
I'm glad that you include you daughter in these now! By the way, glad that you return to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay for the first time in 4 years to ride on the new RMC Hybrid! It's an amazing ride!
Yeah he totally hasn’t done this before
My first ever ride on Cobra’s Curse had some insane spinning. I was amazed
I'm a bit of a nerd about Cobra's Curse but it's my second favorite coaster in the park. Yes, I like it more than Montu and way more than Kumba (though I understand I'm in the minority there.) It's just such a fun ride and the queue is near Disney level.
@@zacg_ I agree that it’s way better than Kumba. Montu I disagree
The Gwazi night ride is _crazy!_ I’m glad you got to experience that, every enthusiast should have that on their bucket list imo.
After getting 8 rides on a hot afternoon/night in March, I proclaimed it my #1, putting it ahead of Velocicoaster, Lightning Rod, and most recently Fury. The variety of elements and indeed forces makes it a smorgasbord, but it somehow also does all of that very well giving the different forces a ton of bite. I admit I was surprised to hear your thoughts on your first ride since I didn’t ride it in the morning - forceless Gwazi sounds like an alternate dimension.
Loved seeing the evolution of Sophie’s reviews over the course of this vlog too! Especially the shade she threw at the screaming Gwazi guy at the end 😂
This is the one I was waiting for 👀
Well, it was nice to have 1 RMC credit over you while it lasted. I'm kinda surprised you didn't get any power on your first Iron Gwazi ride. I was there for an ACE event in May and got ERT on it both early morning and late at night, and it still felt powerful even on the first train of the day at like 9:00. Albeit, of course it'll always be better later in the day, but I got a bunch of rides on Iron Gwazi and all of them were fantastic and shot up into my number 1.
Been waiting for this one! 🙏🏽
The the Man Up was freaking fantastic 🤣🤣🤣!! These are awesome and brings back great memories of when my boy first started riding. Super fun keep them coming!!🤙
Great video! I enjoyed watching!
I was at BGT a few weeks ago and was talking to an ride OP and he was like "This park just shouldn't be open in summer." I rode Iron Gwazi at 10am and I thought it hauled through the whole course. The dispatches are horrible though and I think it is because of guests more than anything people take their sweet time getting into and out of those trains.
Your videos never disappoint :)
Great Vlog Chris I’m glad you and your daughter, enjoy coaster together it’s great to see both of y’all reviews on coasters, as this park is anticipated for me in 4 weeks it’s gonna be my first time.
This was the video i have been waiting too
I had the time of my life this year with my seaworld platinum pass. Pantheon and Iron Gwazi trips over and over again. Nothing better. The best money I've spent since my Holiwood Nights passes.
Its very rare to see Cobra's curse spin a lot, but glad you were able to enjoy your visit. It was really amazing meeting you in person and saying hi. Thank you for visiting.
Rode Gwazi last week for the first time. It's the first time, in a long time, that I felt a little fear like I was coming out of the car. It's an incredible ride and it's so silly fast. It gets you in new places you don't expect. Bravo to whoever designed this. It's next level.
Live near Tampa, I have rode Iron Gwazi probably 10 times already. I must say it is incredible. Keep up the great videos dude!
I love your videos man
Iron Gwazi looks like one of the best rides in the world. I’ve been waiting to see your reaction!
I love these vlogs
This has me hyped up for when I visit BGT later this year! So excited for Iron Gwazi for sure!
Busch Gardens Tampa vlog! All I wanted to see on this channel! Thank you so much for these vlogs!!! This park gave me the first dive coaster first 7 loop coaster first launch coaster and a lot! Thank you for making this vlog!
Video suggestion: Ranking every RMC from worst to best
I did this rmc ranking video a few years ago but it may be time for a reboot
Awesome video I can’t wait to ride it
Awesome video again. I just got back from Universal Florida and I got to ride Velocicoaster first thing with a 5 minute wait. Really awesome ride.
Your videos first got me into coasters and I’m finally making it to Cedar Point tomorrow!
Have fun! I had my best day ever on a Tuesday in July (close enough) so hope it works out
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AIRTIME
It was great meeting you in the quick queue line at Cheetah Hunt!
Best thumbnail ever! Had no idea you were so ripped and inked.
YESS! You finally got on Iron Gwazi! Hopefully soon I can go to BGW cuz I really want to go on it
Ooh! Sophie the HARD core coaster enthusiast!
This is for sure a bucket list park for me.
I rode Gwazi for the first time a few weeks ago and I could not stop smiling for a solid hour after, it was by FAR the best coaster I've ever been on. Granted I haven't done Fury or SteVe yet, but damn if Iron Gwazi isn't amazing. The speed is unreal
Lol that thumail looks awesome!
Not to be creepy lol but I’m about 99.9% sure we were a train or two ahead of you on your last ride of the night on Gwazi. I have a tattoo with B&M track on my arm and probably had a coaster shirt on. Anyway, that night ride was epic, but you are 100% right that IG needs to warm up. We are from Orlando and have noticed that on each visit.
Loved the commentary as always and we share many of the same thoughts on the park. Enjoy the rest of your time in FL! #longlivemontu
My one visit so far this year I battled with weather the whole day and didn't get to ride on Iron Gwazi. You are much more patient than I am to hang out in line and wait through the weather.
Kumba fans celebrating this W. Honestly I get what you think about it. Biggest problem is no one knows it's there. It's just a super satisfying ride without being anything crazy.
I was glad that I was able to make the visit to Busch Gardens Tampa during my Orlando birthday trip. Iron Gwazi is really amazing and worth the longer waits, but these ops are glacially slow. Falcon's Fury was also closed during my visit and I didn't get the spinning moments on Cobra's Curse. Still, I had a great time with all the coasters (except for that painful wild mouse).
I was there the day before you. Everything shut down at 5:30 and never reopened. So that was a major bummer… glad you got some night rides!
BGT is my home park (well at least until I go across the country for college next year) and Iron Gwazi is my #2 just behind VelociCoaster. Seems to be a popular opinion, amazing how much Florida's coaster lineup has improved in just the last couple years
Hershey Park is my home park or it could be Knoebels. Since I live in Cortland NY those are the closest parks to me
Busch Gardens Tampa is a wonderful park. I felt the same way about Iron Gwazi, for best results, ride later in the day.
I seen Greg Morton in Vegas in March he was hilarious. Another great video man
Welp, at least it was open for you. Darn thing broke down too many times to count when I was there and spent half my day in the queue. Thankful for 3 rides somehow😂
Yeah i saw it breaking all day, just too bad i got stuck in line once when it was down
@@AirtimeThrills I’m moving to Florida for an internship soon, so I’m hoping they get it together lol
I’ve only been to Busch Gardens Tampa once and Kumba was my favorite ride. It was back in the early 2000’s. Montu however is my first inverted roller coaster
Yay! I've been waiting for this one. My responses:
-Cobra's Curse was closed the Friday I went. It is fun, if kinda gimmicky. I already got the credit when I went in April though so I'll live.
-I like that you mentioned Scorpion. I only did it once each all three visits but it was still a nice little looper
-One thing I really enjoy about SheiKra is how it goes underground then into the turn before the splashdown. Kumba is cool as well, though it's my least favorite of the big five. My order there would be Iron Gwazi > Montu > SheiKra > Cheetah Hunt > Kumba.
-Although I did see both Turn It Up and Cirque Electric, I didn't see the AGT showcase, lol I'm terrible
-Finally, Iron Gwazi. I rode it six times on the Friday (plus ten times total over the two days I went in April), three rides very early in the day and three more in the second half, including a night ride after the fireworks, and I was feeling the power of the ride each time. I also love the queue and theming, including the music that plays while you're in line. This one is high up there for me.
-As far as weather goes, I got lucky, because the worst that happened was a quick 15 minute delay where the rides shut down briefly and it wasn't even raining at all. Shortly after that was when I saw Cirque Electric. And despite it getting a little shady near the end, the fireworks went on and I was happy about that.
-Also, both times I stayed in hotels that were close by the park. In April I was a 25 minute walk away and in July a 10 minute walk. The latter time I was allowed to leave my car at the hotel even though I couldn't check in yet. I'm happy to walk ten minutes to the park to save $30.
Overall, this was a fun watch. I enjoyed seeing your adventure in this park!
Love the Pantheon shirt! I got the same one when I was there last month
got to love that florida 200 % humidity
I just rode iron Gwazi a couple days ago and it is my new #1 it was soooo good and the airtime was hitting really strong, I'm not the most well traveled coaster enthusiast but I don't think gwazi will leave that #1 spot for awhile.
My man rocking a Pantheon t at BGT. I wore Iron Gwazi t to Pantheon's first preview day. The circle is now complete.
A true yin and yang
The thumbnail alone deserves a like
I’m going to Carowinds for the first time next Wednesday! I’m so excited!
Rode Gwazi this past weekend 7/30. It was the fastest I’ve been yet. Some rides are slower then others but it ripped through the course. The dispatches are the worst part. And they are still working out the kinks in the sensors.
You can also get the half off Quick Queue prior to visiting if you buy it over the phone.
It’s too bad that Gwazi seemed to disappoint you. I’m riding it hopefully next spring and trying not to get too hyped up but it’s hard not to lol
Man, that's a long walk from the hotel you were at to the park. 40 minutes does not surprise me. I'd need a 40-minute break after that 😆
I absolutely LOVE Iron Gwazi. My first four rides on it were eh, but ever since then it's been great. And yeah, the dispatch leaves a lot to be desired. Stood through a near 5-minute dispatch there on Sunday. Thank goodness they have the shed so you can at least sit in the shade if you're in the train coming off the course.
Sheikra and Tigris have both kind of lost their punch for me, but I'm not ashamed to admit I always have a great time on Scorpion. Just something about a classic Schwarzkopf.
Bought your t-shirt for my brother. He loves it!
Nice!
The strangest thing I've learned from this channel is that the B&M track sounds from RCT2 are actually pretty accurate to the real thing haha
I got to magic mountain for my birthday I loved it also I have now watched almost all of your videos
Happy late birthday!
it definitely gets faster throughout the day, you gotta ride it first thing in the morning and last thing before park closes. you’ll definitely feel the difference between morning and night rides!
Iron Gwazi is awesome but it does not dethrone Steel Vengeance or Lightning Rod. If you like chaos more than anything else then it could easily be your number one coaster. But I think the airtime on Steel Vengeance and Lightning Rod is still better and those rides just feel more satisfying to me.
That said, it is definitely a fantastic ride so I'm being nitpicky.
Haven’t done SteVe but have done Lightning Rod and I definitely agree with you. LRod’s airtime had me flying out of my seat! Iron Gwazi not so much, except the last hill. And like you said it’s still a awesome ride but it’s definitely way overhyped at this point.
It dethrones SteVe but it’s so close to Rod
@@SunshineStateCoasters I love Lightning Rod. It's my personal favorite coaster though I think Steel Vengeance is probably the better coaster from an objective standpoint. I hope you get to ride Steel Vengeance. It really is an exhilarating experience.
I personally prefer theme parks over amusement parks in most cases because I like really well rounded immersive experiences. But I have to give credit to Cedar Point as being a phenomenal park with a world class coaster collection, really nice atmosphere, a gorgeous setting and just a ton of stuff to do. Steel Vengeance and Lightning Rod are actually very different sort of rides believe it or not. But if you like Lighting Rod for its airtime you'll probably like Steel Vengeance quite a bit as well.
@@BluesCoasters I think what it has in common with Lighting Rod (besides both having insane wave turns) is that both coasters have flawless pacing. You hit the brakes on Lighting Rod and Iron Gwazi and you just feel like tearing your shirt off. From the moment Iron Gwazi sends you down the first drop and the moment you start to accelerate up the hill on Lighting Rod you don't get a moment to breathe until the ride is over.
Steel Vengeance gives you a moment to breathe, though I don't think that actually hurts the pacing. Even when the MCBR doesn't hit, you at least get a chance to catch you breath and frankly you need it on Steel Vengeance. The reason I'd argue that Iron Gwazi and Lighting Rod have better pacing is that the coasters feel like they're speeding up as you get closer to the end. In the case of Lighting Rod you might actually be speeding up.
That said, the reason I don't personally think Iron Gwazi dethrones Steel Vengeance is because I like sustained airtime and Steel Vengeance is the king of sustained airtime. Iron Gwazi feels like it's trying to twist you around so much that it almost doesn't let you really enjoy the airtime very long before it's whipping you in some new direction. It reminds me of how I feel like the drops on Kingda Ka and TTD are ruined by the spiral. The whipping sensation is fun but to me it interferes with what would otherwise by a moment of very sustained incredible airtime. That's my biggest complaint about Iron Gwazi.
That said, the first drop and wave turn really give high quality sustained airtime. And if you feel that Iron Gwazi is better than Steel Vengeance then that's fine. It's all about having fun.
@@zacg_ I get you’re point. But do you prefer SteVe or LRod?
Amy touching the camera and smiling is quite possibly the cutest thing ever
Nice to meet you at Cheetah Hunt that day :)
Wonderful thumbnail!
You can also purchase quick queue out of the app for 50% off as well, that’s what I usually do.
For several weeks they were allowing pass holders in at 9 while everyone else was at 10.
Montu is a blast to ride
My thoughts from my visit in early June…Cobras Curse was so charming! One of my new favorite coasters. Iron Gwazi was super intense! Broke down twice while I was waiting on line. Heard from a park employee it’s been a maintenance nightmare. Scorpion was INCREDIBLE. I’m honestly angry at my home park (SFSL) for removing our former Schwarzkopf JetScream. Can’t believe it’s running so smooth so many years later(with track built by hand! Anton was a genius. Montu was pretty good, but felt like a larger Batman to me. Cheeta Hunt was fun and it probably the first ride I feel has felt long enough. Lastly…Kumba. It was running one train, and the wait took forever. I decided since I waited so long, I’d wait a little longer for a back-row ride. BIG MISTAKE. As someone who frequently rides Boss, Screamin Eagle, and Ninja without a fus, I can confidently say that no other ride has given me a headache like this one. I tried to appreciate the intensity, the awesome layout, and scenery…but the roughness ruined it for me. This needs to either be scrapped or given the Hulk treatment ASAP.
BGT 9/10

8:03 that guy knew what was up
“say hi sophie”
“hi”
“she’s enthused” LOL 😂
Sophie…"man up"… ouch! Lol
This is an awesome park. Glad you enjoyed it! For SeaWorld, you can go to Ice Breaker first and ride it 5 times without a wait. I'm not kidding! We were disappointed to find that our Unlimited upcharge was bought for no reason. Also, ride Infinity Falls if you can, it's hands down the best rapids ride I've ever ridden! This thing is crazy!
Thoughts on rides:
Iron Gwazi - Just like your experience, it ran very slow in the morning, but my second ride was nuts. Didn't know it broke so much!
Cheetah Hunt - Some people don't like its mildness (*cough* Taylor) but I think it's a good ride for kids (as they LOVE it) and adults. The best part is the speed, so front row is best here, especially at night. Could use a bit more power on the 2nd and 3rd launches though. Wait times can reach 120 minutes!
Cobra's Curse - Great family coaster. Wish it were longer! Wait times reach 100+ minutes!
Montu - My favorite invert, but Banshee is close. Smooth, forceful, and flies through those trenches. Wait reaches 60+ minutes.
Scorpion - It's smooth, but when I hear people call it "rough" (like my mom and brother), I think it's because of the jerky moments. Fun little ride, but because of 1 train, wait can easily reach 40+ minutes.
Sand Serpent - They turn off the trims on the first set of turns, which is nice, but they compensate by bringing you to a full stop throughout the ride! I've seen mice run without those harsh trims, so I would like it to be less extreme. Wait time can reach 40+ minutes with its bad capacity.
SheiKra - It's kinda rough, but smoother if you sit in the middle. Really fun though! Opened an hour late when I was there. Wait can reach 60+ minutes.
Tigris - Since everyone runs to SheiKra in the back, you can ride this several times in the morning as a walk-on. Same with the late evening. Great ride, glad these are being cloned! Wait can reach 30+ minutes in the midday.
Kumba - Quite rough, but fun too. Ride in the center 2 seats in any row for a smoother ride. Would love this to be retracked! Wait times are rarely bad, can reach 30+ minutes, but it's not surprising to find this at 5-10 when everything else is 40+.
Air Grover - Lamest kiddie coaster ever. Should definitely go 2 laps.
Congo River Rapids - Ride this if you're burning up! Just don't bring your phone!
Dragon Fire - Nice place to chill.
Seaworld was packed when i went on Sunday, using the overflow lot, but Ice Breaker was a 10 minute wait
@@AirtimeThrills Oh duh should've thought that you had already been by the time this video came out lol. But yeah it's crazy how placement of a ride can affect its wait for even hours into the day. Manta is 10 years old but everyone still rushes there, while the brand new ride is left empty for a while.
I’m not sure if anyone’s mentioned this, but people were already in the park riding things before it opened because of a Pass Member “early entry” promotion that was running (ends August 7th). Pass members could get in at 9:30 on weekdays, and 9am on Friday and Saturday.
I'm Floridian and grew up going to all of the theme parks, mostly in Orlando. But, I moved away 15 years ago, yet I still fly or drive down with my BF to go to the parks every few months. Busch Gardens and Universal are, by far, my favorite (regarding thrills). We actually witness Iron Gwazi being built and it looked awesome. We haven't been back to ride it, but it's sad that it's underwhelming....
I adore intense rollercoasters (Velocicoaster being my favorite), I was really hoping this would've been one
ahahahahah "man up" so great!
this is our home park and we have passes. second half of July and first half of Aug they are letting pass memebers in an hour early on the weekends. that's why there were people already in before 10a...
wooo he has to choose now
Will try to make it there in November to check it out. Will be in San Antonio this Thursday to check out Dr Diabolical Cliffhanger.
Sounds weird to hear my number 1 coaster being 'mild'...The Florida heat must have gotten to you...😉. Nice to see your daughter ranking up on those coaster credits, she seems a lot more confident in her reviews!
The only time I was at a park when all the rides closed was at Disneyland in, I think 2014. I entered in the evening and the walkways were jammed, but soon the rides reopened. Someone had ditched their paper fastpasses on a trash can so I scored a quick ride on Star Tours, which suddenly stopped in the middle because, yes, there was another earthquake/aftershock.
I rode sand serpent in December and it was running slower than the kiddie coaster on the other side if the park. It crawled through the layout and had no forces at all.
I went to BGT the first week of June and got on Iron Gwazi three times. Have to agree with you regarding the dispatches. I was SHOCKED at how bad it was.
We've waited and we have recieved
Busch Gardens being the anchor (the good anchor not the bad type) for coasters in Florida.
Hey, @ 13:21 it looks like Corey Hart isn't the only one who wears his sunglasses 😎 at night!
Sophie just straight murdered that person, not worth screaming for, so whoever was screaming on there, Man up!!! ☠️💀

Welp, looks like people actually found Kumba 😂😂😂
me and my dad did that exact same walk when we went. But we also walk 8 miles to a domino’s after
They are doing pass member early entry for a bit of the summer
