Surprised you were able to get on LR. It’s been acting up again a lot, from what I hear. Next time I’m there, if it’s running I’m gonna marathon it until it breaks.
Love that you include Sophie in your passion. My dad loved coasters growing up, and my first actual non-kiddie coaster were with him. The Raven and The Legend back in the early 2000s. He hasn't been able to ride anything for some time now, but those memories and moments last forever.
I just went to Dollywood for the first time early this July and really enjoyed it! I got a back row ride on Thunderhead and didn't think it was too bad. Lightning Rod is amazing, but the dispatches were so slow.
Man I REALLY need to go to Dollywood! It seems a lot like an Eastern Knott's Berry Farm to me. A good balance of high level theming and high level thrills. Also the themed areas themselves have similar themes to Knott's. Oh and the food looks amazing
Dollywood does have great theming, but it's also mixed in with the natural beauty of the mountains. That natural beauty is something that Knotts doesn't have. I'm not sure how Knotts is in regards to entertainment, but Dollywood & Silver Dollar City cannot be topped in that department. I feel those are the 2 most complete parks in the world.
Dollywood is wonderful. Knotts is my home park and I can say "YES" it's like that - except with mountains like OK Coaster Fan said. It was built in phases and has that charming unevenness like Knotts. In the same way Knotts has a serious commitment to live actors in ghost town, Dollywood does that with live music. You'll LOVE it.
Knotts does seem more like a Herschend park than Cedar Fair. I'd say Dollywood's theming is more consistently good than Knotts's, though Knotts does a good job. The theming is more varied than the theming at Silver Dollar City and some people find that clunky and others find it to be nice to have variety. I absolutely love Dollywood. If you are a fan of Americana and sentimentality then it is the perfect park for you. It's also got a solid ride collection. A lot of enthusiasts (cough.... Chris.....cough) just come to the park for the coasters and then miss out on how amazing the overall park is. Do NOT miss the shows. During summer that means you have to see Dreamland Drive-In. During the Festival of Nations you need to see some of the international live acts. During Smoky Mountain Christmas you need to see a bunch of shows because they're all great. And don't miss the food. Aunt Granny's is the overall best food but next to that is Miss Lillian's. The food there is also very good and Miss Lillian will come out and charm the heck out of you. And we all know about the cinnamon bread. Missing out on the shows and atmosphere at Dollywood would be like going to Knotts and skipping Ghost Town.
@@zacg_ You nailed it. Definitely agree about Knotts feeling more Herschend and also that Dollywood has more consistently good theming. The ambience is unequalled. And the entertainment? Holy heck.... probably the best (and the most!) of any non-Disney theme park on the planet. And so yeah, what some people find clunky, I find charming. Go figure. 🙂
I swear your daughter is just like my daughter. She’ll ride everything - just hit 54” - and she loves airtime, but isn’t crazy about extreme airtime. She like Lightning Rod but didn’t love it - she’ll ride SV everytime but hates it on about half the rides bc the airtime is too strong (she doesn’t like being squished). Ironically though she loves Maverick I think bc the lap bar isn’t killing her thighs.
Silver Dollar City came first. Dollywood opened a year later but wasn’t called Silver Dollar City until 76. Finally in 85, it got its current name. The clock probably came along with the 76 rename. Thats my guess.
Dollywood is legit one of my favorite parks, glad you finally enjoyed it outside of the weather. The single rider line is a godsend for LRod, I got 15 rides on it in March, and thanks to that I don't ever see a need to invest in a TimeSaver Pass🤣 Very thrilled to see Sophie get to ride LRod!
Was here today on my vacation in the States. Was really anxious for Lightning Rod as it's the the coaster I was most looking forward to this trip and I knew about it's reputation of being unreliable. I even bought a two day ticket in case it wouldn't be running today. Initially it was closed when the park opened but later in the morning it opened. Had a front row ride in the morning and another one and two back row rides later in the afternoon. It was my third RMC after Untamed and Zadra and I would probably rank it #2 favorite coaster behind Zadra. Those back row rides late in the day were insane! Gonna hit the waterpark on my second day and maybe get some more rides in on Lightning Rod.
I just recently moved down to Tennessee and I absolutely love Dollywood. I just wish I didn't live in central time (I'm literally just over the line) because it's sooo annoying to have to plan for a three hour drive and having to plan around horrible Knoxville traffic to go here
The fact that Sophie went on Lightning Rod and made it the last ride to finish the day off in style must have made you one proud coaster enthusiast dad!
Rode Thunderhead in late April this year. Same experience as you. Back row was jackhammering like crazy. Front row was super fun as long as I leaned forward and kept my butt off the seat like an inch. It's got such a great layout, if they could get it running smoothly I'd lap that thing like crazy. Knotts (home park) did it with Ghostrider -- with a GCI retrack. Surely GCI can do it for a GCI. :-)
Like how most Six Flags parks have the Six Flags logo over the entrance sign as an intentional homage to the fact that they are all part of the same chain.
Went to dollywood earlier in this month for the first time, LR was closed all morning but got 3 rides in the afternoon! Made it into my top 10 with having ~160 credits, but disappointed me a little bit. I wish I could've got on it with the faster launch. My longest wait surprisingly was firechaser express, it was almost an hour! I had pretty low expectations for wild eagle and even still felt "meh" about it. And good call on the cinnamon bread! We loved it too:)
Omg just was here for the first time! IMO Lightning Rod is top 5 coasters ever, Thunderhead is an upper tier GCI, Wild Eagle is an underrated B&M, and Tennessee Tornado is one of the best Arrow loopers ever.
Just wanted to say I love that you included a (very) short clip of The Kingdom Heirs show. They're my favorite Southern Gospel group (Jeff Chapman, the bass singer, is arguably the best in the business.). 2 reasons I want to come to Dollywood: to see The Kingdom Heirs and to ride Lightning Rod! Keep on making great content!
I work there. Thunderhead holds a special place as it was my first coaster credit. I do have to agree that the first half is brutal and I can't wait till they finish the whole retrack.
There is a shuttle to the park from town that's actually really frequent. But I was today Years Old when I learned Kings Island could had its own train station, but 2:1 disliked that
Dollywood tip: The moment it stops raining dash over to Thunderhead. She runs so much harder when the track is wet and greasy. And btw, we all tell our kids blazing fury only has one drop haha.
I love Dollywood! I’m sorry you keep running into trouble, but why on earth would you walk from your hotel? As for the clock-Dollywood used to be called Silver Dollar City East.
This park was amazing last spring. And oof, that uphill walk must have been something. I wish I got to that alpine coaster. But my niece's first credit was Blazing Fury then Fire chaser. But, it was also raining but in the morning.
If only there were some kind of service where you could ask somebody to give you a ride in their car for a nominal fee...haha Totally agree about Dragon Flier, I actually really liked Thunderhead, and maybe you can blame Dollywood for the rain - it poured when I was there too (Blazing Fury suddenly became very popular)

You went there almost a year after I went there for my first time. It times like this where I really do have to appreciate how well my visit was. I was only there for a day, but it was actually one of the best days I've had at a theme park. I'm sorry you haven't had the best time with Dollywood so far, but really hope you do get that one amazing visit like I did so you can really see what this park is like at its best!
Ayy dollywood I was there exactly a month ago today Bro when I went to dollywood a month ago lightning rod broke at the same time as it did for u except it didn’t rain the day I went
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Glad to see Lightning Run still make the Top 10. Was customer service this better on this go-round? I know this is weird, to say, but I'd rather ride 5 Vekoma SLC's, 6 Arrow loopers and a revived Mean Streak with smiling service, than every RMC, but everyone employee being resting B-Facey and not caring. Better service than the last trip? It looks like yall had a hoot. Keep up the great work, your videos are always amzing

I do feel you were a bit harsh on blazing fury, shes older yes but she still is fun, sophie isnt the only one who has wanted to ride it again right after
I've actually found all my Thunderhead rides to be super smooth, and it's number 2 in the park for me. It has amazing airtime and I actually think it's better than Mystic Timbers (unpopular opinion)
No one copied anyone on the clocks. Dollywood used to be a Silver Dollar City and it has had other names thru time and was once owned by Cleveland Browns.
Dollywood used to be silver dollar city until I guess dolly got it or something but my parents always knew it as sdc but it's been dollywood as long as I remember.

Even in the back? Dang
...you masochist.
No one copied anyone on the clocks. Dollywood used to be a Silver Dollar City and it has had other names thru time and was once owned by Cleveland Browns.
I would like to apologize on behalf of my home park. :P
2020 WS Win was a fluke- Giants fan.
2nd edit: Can you guys stop winning?
Dollywood used to be silver dollar city until I guess dolly got it or something but my parents always knew it as sdc but it's been dollywood as long as I remember.

Maybe you’re just getting old 😜 we were fine on Thunderhead and thought it was one of the more smooth woodies we’ve ridden
