    I normally do not try to learn anything from golf RUclipsrs and look at them for fun. However today I tried the pocket move and I am absolutely amazed what it did to my swing. Not only do I hit my strokes between 15 - 30 meter longer I hit them straight where I aim. I have had a big problem with pulls when doing tee shots with iron, this just eliminated that problem. We player La Serena golf club today and at hole three I decided to test the pocket pull. After that my shots transformed to something I have not seen for a very long time. I ended the round with -4, which was a long time. I do credit this to the pocket pull that works very good for me. a BIG thank you for that tips.

    Indulge me while I share something with you:
    I just got back into golf after not swinging a club for about 11 years (plus I always sucked then). I have old, raggedy clubs; my irons are the old Spalding Elite “Bird on Ball” blade irons. Old, worn and unforgiving, and in dire need of new grips.
    At 42 I, too, got sick of being in pain-mostly from duffing and topping the ball 75% of the time, and thinning it about 23%. I found this video while looking for advice.
    I took about 20 old balls I had in my bag, a bucket, about 6 foam balls, a sidewalk chalk, and my PW outside, and practiced the “Charlie Chaplin Drill” about 100 times: hit the 20 balls, retrieve them in the bucket, repeat. By the last 20, I started to notice more consistency, and the spread of the 20 balls got a LOT more narrow by the fifth round.
    I switched to the foam balls and tried some full swings at the end of the session. Chalking up one side of the balls to get a look at contact locations. I found that not only was I hitting better (more in the sweet spot), I was starting to do something I hadn’t done before: hitting the ball before the ground.
    Finally, something practical I could apply and work towards. Thank you, Golfing Meme Lord. I needed this.

    Baus, I rarely comment on videos but had to come back to this. I have a driver consistent slice and my irons have been incredibly unpredictable on where they hit. Before the round I stretched my hips and practiced hinging and turning them with some light wedge and iron swings. I strengthened my grip, removing overlapping fingers and instead of swinging the club way back and powering with my arms focused only two things - hinging my hips and keeping my lead arm absolutely straight from start to finish. Hand to god 8/10 good iron strikes with at least 20yds more on them, my 8 iron went 160 on a beauty and some of the best drives of my life, one going about 280ish down the fairway which I’ve never done. And it felt much less effort. This all coming off my worst 9 this season, chunking, thinning pretty much every iron shot and not a single straight drive. Love it.

    Watched lesson #2 for the fifth and sixth time yesterday, but mentally worked through putting front pocket into back pocket instead of just watching. Went to the range taking small swings focusing on impact, imagining an impact bag there. First 20 shots were crap. I wasn't thinking front pocket to back pocket, and then... I hit 150 yards with my 7 iron with a tiny swing like a Baus. Over and over. Gotta go back tomorrow and do it again. Then again. Playa's old videos got game.

    As a 39-year-old, One of the best things in my life that has contributed to my golf swing; baseball and martial arts. Both of those have generating power from driving the hips as a fundamental principle before anything else. I am small and out-drive people twice my size simply because I can drive my hips while they are trying to drive with their body/arms.
    I was just at the LPGA KPMG event this last weekend, and those ladies were smaller than me, had slower/smoother swings and were hitting 280 off the tee lol.

  • @amard26

    I made similar changes to my swing this year and it made a whole lot of difference. I found out that i was swaying as well, and this happened because of the difference in club lengths after every shot. After hitting a long club, like your driver, you know that club takes longer and wider in the back swing compared to your other clubs, so when i changed to my pitching wedge or irons, i tried to keep the same swing, which was the mistake. When switching to from a driver to a shorter club, i tried to keep that driver feeling, which ended up with me having a longer take away on my backswing, which resulted in me hitting stingers or thinning and also not being able to get a nice arc.

  • @jordan3305
    @jordan3305 6 месяцев назад +1

    In finally got fitted for a driver, 3 wood, and 7 wood and it made a big difference. I usually am pretty consistent with these clubs but the clubs and shaft just didn’t always feel comfortable. After the fitting I found with a 7 wood and driver with a lighter stiff shaft helped me load the club better and be more consistent even with a LS driver. But for a 3 wood I actually hit that better with a project x stiff shaft that was heavier with a LS head. I don’t know why this is the case but it just shows you shouldn’t take what one person says about a swing or a club online and take it to your game.

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  6 месяцев назад +1

      YES!
      Good to see some anecdotal things that work for people, but take the gist of what they are saying and apply it to you via expertise of people who can assess you.
      Eric said this about why he chose this shaft for me:
      Firstly, I picked the tour ad vr model cause it has a firm stiff butt end of the shaft( good for people that yank the handle hard in transition from the top of the backswing into the downswing.
      Secondly it has a faster taper rate from the butt to mid low section of the shaft(means it narrows down faster) which was great at increasing speed and control. I liked the weight profile which was a highish balance point of the shaft as well which was another factor which I felt was great for the heavier ping head. By having the higher balance profile it makes the heavier head feel lighter and easier to swing.

    Good watch. I have had a couple golf lessons. I tore my left ACL many years ago. So as a right handed golfer I am not confident to rotate and follow thru as many can as I have hurt my knee a few times and dont want to go thru that again. With that being said I still hit the ball a good lenght for my age at 53. But when I was in my 20s I was longer before the ACL injury. I used to hit 8iron 160. Now I can get it around 145. It is good that I still see I can match some decent players with driver. I can reach around 270 if I hit a good one, but usually I think I get around 240 or there abouts. Thanks for your videos. They are informative and I am learing more about the game thru you and others that I value.

    Centering. Played with a 20-something trying to swing like Kyle Beekshire this weekend. I pulled out driver once and outdrive him by 15 yards or so. When asked why I didn't hit driver more I didn't have a great answer other than I didn't feel confident getting it in the fairway on a narrow course.

    I got stiff shaft clubs, my swing speed is still pretty slow but I'm hoping to grow into it. Are the stiff shafts negatively affecting my performance or is the difference pretty negligible?

    • @p4fizzle
      @p4fizzle 6 месяцев назад +1

      Probably negligible if your in the upper end of the speed matrix for a regular shaft. There is an overlap. I have all regular clubs, but in the last 3 months my swing speed has gone up by like 15, 20 mph. So my new speed is in the stiff range, but I can play with my regular flex irons just fine

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  6 месяцев назад +2

      If the stiff shafts are not suitable for your swing speed and transition and tempo, then you're handicapping yourself further. Don't know much about your swing, but can't hurt to get some advice without buying clubs from a fitter/pro.
      It's not a shoe or a shirt when you're 12 years old.
      You start with softer shafts that will work every day, then when you're consistent with any improvement in swing, you get fitted for firmer ones.
      Starting at firmer than you can handle and growing into them will certainly not be advised by, I would guess, every good club fitter in the world.

    Did you have to work on shortening your "John Daly" swing as a separate thing, or did just the drills and understanding of the "hip" power lower your swing for you?

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  6 месяцев назад +1

      I consulted with Eric and asked why when i shorten my swing, that the ball goes straighter and longer. He mentioned that it stops the arm’s and hands from being able to cup at the top. Swinging shorter cut out that cupping. And the thing with cupping is that it then needs a compensation to correct itself on the way down. By focusing on stopping my swing short fora while, i removed both the cupping and The compensation to correct the cupping, removing two compensation from my swing.

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  6 месяцев назад +1

      I first noticed the issue with a cupped wrist with George Gankas. He explained that you need a match up to help get the face square. The compensation was really complicated so I decided to cut out the cupping altogether. Then I remove complication from my swing

      @@GolfSidekick Thanks so much for the detailed reply. In my golf journey I noticed that having a target, a positive attitude, and a course strategy played a greater role in playing well than "mechanics". The industry pushed the opposite weighting of factors...and being that there are different ways to swing a club, I just stopped listening to that side of the equation for awhile. That said, I notice in my swing I have an overswing and it can make me less consistent. I think I am going to try to shorten it now that the other fundamentals are down and see where it takes me. Some guys like John Daly have no problem doing it, but when your "mindfulness" is noticing it's off for you, you gotta change/try something different.
      Thanks for being a positive influence to people's game and pointing to principles that go beyond your golf game that help to live the "good life", the "connected world" needs good voices out there pointing people in good directions balancing out the other noise! Have a good one!

      Yes sir I agree with you on all counts. Avoid all swing mechanic advice not SPECIFICALLY for you from a coach. When something is off, find qualified help to assist in changing it to make sure it's correct.
      I realized at an early age, through Golf Digest Swing Mechanic Industrial Complex, that I need to ignore everything in a magazine and I stopped buying them.
      Then I realized that you need to employ people and spend the money to help you if you're serious. Millions of people have walked the same path we are on. WHy are we trying to work it out ourselves, when the entire human history before us has people who figured it out generation to generation?? Maybe it's come with age, but I no longer have the delusions that I know or can know evetything. In fact, I know VERY little. But knowing that I know very little, is very freeing
      1-3 hours with a good coach and you have saved 10 years of suffering. I was broke growing up so now that I can afford it, I hire experts to help me with everything I need that I do not have time to sit and figure out.

      @@GolfSidekick Right on man, you can tell you've picked up the "The Way" in your journeys. I spent most of my meaningful time in life so far learning meditation, philosophy and molding my life to live the "good life" while correcting for any bad programming that was in the way prior! I've enjoyed that as my primary focus immensely. I picked up golf 10-15 years ago (37). I learned my swing from Wisdom in Golf (mechanically). The guy also has a wonderful positive attitude and was just a "joy" to be around. Gave me my first "system". I saw him twice in person for 6 hours and consumed his instructional content. I just don't have the finances to see him more often and he never tried to change my overswing in person. And even with the right information/system, as you know, you have to work at it to see success, so I just assumed any bad shots was my problem, and kept working on his fundamentals to my understandings. You can see here with this tank of a player that he lets him overswing, but it "fits" him. There is no ONE WAY, BUT one has to be mindful of what is right for you specifically at the time to get better. So, since I was never certain it needed changing from the information I had, I didn't go there for solutions. However, evolution in Awareness, Emotional Control, and Lack of Tension (on Results) let's you see clearly to the nuances of your current situation. I bet if Shawn saw me often he'd probably change it for me specifically now. Facts change, I change...go with the flow.
      I've learned a lot from you on course strategy, and you are also, in my opinion, very successful at finding the best mental mind states, or ways of approaching anything fruitfully that other wise humans/traditions have also found great success employing! If, one peruses just Stoicism, Yoga, Buddhism as examples, one can easily see the parallels in wisdom/nuggets on your channel. For just a "game" golf sure can teach quite a bit to people. I recommended your channel recently to a father trying to teach his kids golf...but more specifically as a help to help their mental attitudes in life!
      Also per Socrates, "I know nothing" said from true inner experience and inner investigation...really says quite a bit about what you know...and is a lot of "real knowing" considering our human capabilities! Learning to identify with processes and not fixed static situations that comes from that specific understanding really, really saves your mental Ego years of unnecessary suffering and struggle with reality going through general life...a much bigger win than just the golf scores!
      Anyhow, really appreciate your tip, I will commit to doing the work of taking 75% shots with the knowledge it is a worthwhile thing to do for where I'm at and we'll see where that takes me...a fun journey! Daly and this Mr Mu, here, can do it without negative consequences, but we each find our Way, I am pretty positive its "too" detrimental to my game and capacities all things considered. Just don't quit, and stay positive! All the best again, and glad to see your success in life! Inspiring and helpful to many on many levels!
