I will disagree... but the cases are rather small in number. Malfunctioning (poorly maintained) and old style safety guns that fall or are dropped due in fact discharge when not expected - and multiple people have been shot and died.
This is why hunter safety classes teach that in almost all cases that you unload the chamber on a rifle (or old pistol) before propping it against a tree or fence, or laying on a table, in a number of situations. The gun can go off with the "Safety On" if it falls over or is dropped.
A number of modern guns have changed the design of the safety systems so that cannot happen. But, the vast majority of firearms in existence are of the older designs.
However, none of the above cited cases involve an intentional attempt to harm someone.

Whats I find royally messed up is, cars result in more deaths each ear than someone with a gun. People have committed murder and mass murder with vehicles countless times. Perfect example is that parade a few years back where that nutcase ran through the grandma group and others at a parade. (I don't remember the name of the group). The dems not once have gone after vehicles/driving which isn't a right but a privilege. More people die each ear from alcohol, tobacco and drug use all separately and the dems don't bat a eye. There are numerous legal items that are not a right to own that result in more deaths each year than a someone with a gun and the dems don't bat a eye. They constantly go after our guns, blaming a inanimate object for the actions of a nutcase and refusing to admit all the crimes each year that are prevented/stopped by a good guy with a gun. Infact they attack the good guy with a gun like that young man at the Florida mall who shot and killed a armed nutcase that was going on a shooting spree. The dems demanded he be arrested because he was canceled carrying in the mall. They didn't care that constitutional carry gave him the right and that he saved unknown amount of people by taking out the threat.

I ran into the worst example of it in a book I read a while back. The character was a New Yorker, came to Arizona, walked into a gun store, slapped cash on the counter, and then "legally" walked out 5 minutes later with a pistol without so much as a background check. I pointed out in my review that the author REALLY needed to actually research gun laws, because none of that could actually happen, for SO many reasons. I recognized, too, that she's been totally indoctrinated by the leftist media into believing that's how it actually works when it's a total fantasy. The only way ANY individual is slapping cash down and walking away with a pistol without a background check is if they're buying the gun through illegal means. The profound ignorance that abounds out there about the laws that are currently on the books is staggering.

I admit that I am a convicted felon and will never own or possess anything to do with a firearm. That being said; I have some ideas on how some of these policy pushers can get a better grip on the mindset of criminals.
1: Go “under cover” and actually work as a corrections officer inside a housing unit.
    2: Well… I guess I only have one idea.
It just completely blows my mind that anyone would consider that any policy has even stoped or prevented any crime. I mean, come on! WAKE UP PEOPLE! Nothing and I mean NOTHING will stop a criminal from doing what they want to do especially when jail or prison is an acceptable side effect to a lifestyle that they freely choose.
I’ve made those choices before 😶

Our government has been fighting a war against drugs for decades now. Is there anyone who can't get whatever drug they want whenever they want?. Those two examples relate to chosen lifestyle and they couldn't be stopped. Ability to defend yourself and family is not a lifestyle choice.
