To be fair I had always thought Tom to be something of a 'one-trick pony'....since he was blessed and cursed with this powerhouse of a voice which he appeared compelled to use. However as the years passed I was totally taken with his version of Dylan's 'What Good am I ?'.....At last he reigned in the power and gave an emotive rendition. Age mellows I guess. That said for me PJProby is in a league of his own. I doubt many have been interested enough to dip into his back catalogue since his demise. He has produced some amazing work...lost to posterity. I regard him as a true 'artist' with all the creative genius that that involves. Difficult, mad, bizarre beyond belief at times..........as Van Morrison sang : "Whatever Happened to P.J.Proby....?" As a leading Pop Paper back in the 60's lamented...."He Could have Ruled the Pop World you know !"
I sure don't think Sir Tom stole Proby's act. If he stole anyone's act, Sir Tom idolized Elvis (plus Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard, but they were not anyone to copy, sitting at the piano). Sir Tom didn't (and probably doesn't still today-ha) take any sh*t. The entertainment business is not all glitz and glamour. Thanks for posting!
Im a singer and was inspired as a nipper of 6 or 7 by both singers and have been inspired by many other great male voices back to Caruso times ive seen pj many times i still enjoy seeing him on stage , i listen to tom now i think toms instrument has matured extremely well and he's looked after it well a great singer , im still a fan of pjs recordings and really love them but not so much after 1970s
Good interview, thanks. Both are obviously great singers, in their own way. Personally, I rate 'I apologise' the greatest vocal performance of all time. Listen carefully & you'll hear PJ pours his whole heart & soul into it. Tom tends to sing more consistently well, PJ perhaps more unpredictably.
Very Sad to hear this. PJ Proby has & still is my favorite Ballad singer ,but ,on saying that I like some of Toms Ballads too ,my favorite is "once there was a Time" . Both excellent singers who didn`t need to go down this road.It just wasn`t warranted.
PJ Proby's vocal range is extraordinary . From what I've heard and seen of him it seems he can do justice to any song of any style , tempo or genre . Sadly , probably the most underrated vocalist in recent history . Jones might be a nice fella and all that , but vocally he's vastly inferior to PJ .
P.J. was a much better singer than Tom Jones was. Tom should praise P.J. and NOT criticise him. Great to see P.J. & Tom both still going strong even now in 2021.
@@JoeElvis2009 Tom Jones is a great singer and I'm a fan of his but I wish he would be more nicer & more friendlier to P.J.Proby. Tom got his chance to become a star in early 1965 when P.J. was thrown off a big tour for splitting his trousers, so the unknown T.J. had a super chance to become famous on those shows with Cilla Black...which he did! Great to see T.J. & P.J. both still brilliant in 2021!
I think people have a right to relate the experiences of their own life as they see fit. PJ liked to say things to provoke publicity. Tom didn't. It's hardly surprising they had a difference of opinion in this area. LOL
In my opinion Proby is a far better singer than Jones, He certainly did a better version of 'Delilah', 'I'm Coming Home' and 'With These Hands' and if he had called Proby out for a fight, Proby would have put him on his ass! , just my opinion lol

Thanks for listening To, I think k PJ is a totally erratic singer, great at times and utterly self-indulgent at other times!
@@JoeElvis2009 Yes, & his career reflects that, the way he's flitted in and out of the public eye while Tom has remained constantly there.
As someone that grew up in that era i can tell you that P.J. P roby was a far superior singer that was back stabbed by Tom Jones and the BBC.
You don't mess around with the Jones Boy...clap
PJ Proby was brilliant !!!
I remember Tom Jones being referred to as the poor mans P. J Proby and that is what he will always be to me.

@@JoeElvis2009 Without a shadow of doubt. However it could be that both had overloads of testosterone levels at the time ? LoL
Think you all wrong.Tom Jones is one of the best singers Ever. He's a very nice man too.
What a Powerhouse of a voice. Not many can match him .❤❤
I’m not all wrong. But, OK if you think so
OK Mr Jackson. Xx
I still like PJ.He is a Great singer ❤

P J Proby is and was 1000 times better than Tom Jones! I wish PJ had thumped Jones!
Alcohol consumption wreaks havoc.
it does

WHO the hell is PJ Proby? 🤔
Hi, Google him
❤️🙏😎🎤🍾 from your loving pharmacist Christine
Interesting interview-I can see Tom having a fistfight with Proby and most likely, coming out the winner!
No doubt he would! He also told me at one point Elvis might be reluctant to take him on!
@@JoeElvis2009 Elvis was a 8th degree black belt in Karate. He would have kicked Jones out of the room in no time!

He’s more versatile. I’ve been in company of both, Jones would mangle Proby
Tom Jones is on another level period! Elvis Presley even thought so...
For versatility, it's Proby by many a note.
Tom Jones is great, PJ is generic version
Two great singers but Tom was better managed and went on to have great albums which were better than his singles.
