I remember the cockiness of the Toyota engineers when asked if the 3.4TT would live up to the reliability of the 3UR and 1UR and they said it would be a million mile engine. Three model years in and this stuff is still going on. And Toyota corporate is insulting buyers by offering just a short block for an expensive truck that just had its first oil change. I can imagine the rage and frustration of paying that massive monthly payment for a truck that you specifically bought because Toyota was supposed to be the brand you go to for reliability, and when the engine blows up, the best they can do is interrogate you as though it may have failed due to something you did, and then they give your dealer a short block and tell them to build an engine using that and the old parts. I was pointing out back in 2019 that it was foolish to ridicule manufacturers for not being as luxurious as the top Ford and Ram trims. All the tech, tech gimmicks, and luxurious interiors was going to turn it into the new race to see who could build the most expensive truck, and every trim under that ultra luxury trim was going to adjust to a new higher price. Ford and Ram have reached $90k for their ultra lux regular half-ton. They previously topped out in the upper $60k range back around 2018/19. GM and Toyota followed suit and that's why we are in the situation we are currently in.

It's been fading away for a decade now. Once they changed the language of their new vehicle warranty to say that it's "normal" for their engines to burn 1 quart every 1200 miles, that was the sign of the beginning of the end. Then when the 3rd gen Tacoma was rated least reliable midsize truck by Consumer Reports 3+ years in a row, that was yet another sign. Then there was the 8-speed in the Camry and its issues with torque converters destroying transmissions, Tundras with fuel pump modules leaving trucks stranded. ECU's and other modules failing after a few years, etc. Now they have had engine failures with the new Tundra for three model years and the best they can do is make it a PITA to get the warranty process started, and then insist on a short block instead of doing the right thing and sending a complete crate engine. What an absolute insult to sell the new Tundra at these absurd new prices and then let some random tech at a dealer rebuild an entire engine when the original fails. That looks REALLY bad when even GM is giving customers crate engines for out of spec lifter bores and potentially cracked blocks.

There are many new Tundra trucks with blown engines that are less than 5,000 miles on the motor. I do not think it is fare to say that the issue is caused by the extended 10k oil change interval. That motor has such a high torque that they should have built the motor like other manufacturers built their diesel engines.

All these companies sell your data, however if you had access to all the information and some really sharp analysis you would find that some infractions are worse than others. At a minimum, you would at least find different _kinds_ of infractions. One of the problems with privacy concerns is that there is often not a way for a consumer to understand exactly what is happening, and so everything gets lumped into one bucket. For instance, my current understanding is that Nissan S & SV models still don't phone home unless you buy the specific packaged which allows it.

People are bent out of shape about the GM example, but all these manufacturers are certainly doing it or are working on doing it. Data collection is a major source of revenue and they won't abstain. Then against, smartphones have probably been collecting the same data. They can tell how fast you're driving, how aggressively you brake, how fast you travel from one destination to the next. All the sensors are in the phone and Apple/Google have never had a problem with violating privacy to sell your data.

The 28 inch tall tires being retrofitted to the 'offroad ready' Transits are not necessarily that small, considering that the 275/40/R18 tires on my Mustang are only 26.6 inches tall. But this being an offroad vehicle, the big tires with increased ground clearance seem to be the whole point. The proper fix would seem to be different fender flares with proper clearance. I can't imagine that they did not realize they had an issue when they released them like this. Tire rub issues are going to be plain as day upon minimal testing. It's a pitiful fail on Ford's part and makes a person wary of buying anything they are putting out right now.

Toyota engine failure would be covered under warranty unless it's been modified. In the automotive service industry we don't say always or never, we've seen too many strange occurrences to use that language. Could you imagine telling the customer "yup it's covered" only to find he's been running nitrous? "Should be covered" is much safer language. 30 day replacement time is likely related to parts availability more than anything else I would imagine, unless the dealership is short on technicians which is VERY common in the industry right now.

And now all this complexity has to present some serious challenges. And stepping a brand new tundra motor to the block and putting it all back together would be a brutal job with many possibilities for something to go wrong. Toyota pulling it head out of its butt and just offering a new crate motor would of saved the customer, the dealership and the techs a bunch of head aches. And I can't imagine the cost of all that labor being that far off from the cost of the crate motor. This was a bad move by Toyota and everyone suffered. It’s hilarious that according to you Ford is just a completely crap company because they are replacing tires on a van but Toyota and GM are replacing engines that are failing with less than 10k miles but they build great quality vehicles. No bias there at all.

It's a real shit thing to do to sell a van specifically marketed towards overlanders, put such little effort into the package that they didn't even bother to make sure the tires wouldn't rub, and then recall them to put tiny tires on it to negate the entire purpose of spending the money for the vehicle in the first place. It's like selling a Raptor and then recalling it and putting 30" tires on it in place of the 35" tires. And you do realize that Ford has had a TON of engine failure issues, right? From the small ecoboost engines failing in brand new Broncos, to F-150's with Gen 4 5.0 Coyotes dropping valves, they deal with just as many engine failures lol

@volodymyrprosov6134 I don't know much about the duramax. Never owned own and don't follow full size trucks too much. But in my opinion for engine reliability in a full size the ford f150 v8 or the 3.5 ecoboost are proven quality motors. The new hurricane I expect to be amazing but I would give it a year or 2 to get any bugs worked out.
The chevy v8s are still available and good motors too.
Anything I'd buy today I would get an extended warranty on as well. Repair costs have quadrupled in last 2 years.

@@SamkoWorkShop honestly, i am glad that you have had good luck with them. I would not wish my horror story on my worst enemy.
My story started with my Silverado 1500 6.2l (26,000 miles) leaving my wife and kids and myself on the side of the interstate in the middle of now where, after a piston went right through the engine block. After 6 months of not getting a new engine from GM, i jumped ship. Fast-forward to just a few months ago, my Tahoe with 5.3l, then a few months later my work silverado with 6.2l, all had major issues that sucked SOOOO much of my money. Yes, maintenance was to a tee. Now one of my employees is having issues with his 5.3l. Its surreal that this many vehicles from GM then we have owned, have been absolute garbage. GM could not have been any less helpful, neither could the local dealership.
I have a few Nissan titans in my work fleet as well, and a boddy has one with 380k on his. These titans have been rock solid.
I was a GM fan, but i will never be a customer again. Searching GM and AFM and lifter issues, its obvious that they have some serious problems.

You’re being quite disingenuous. All automakers collect data where possible. Most will monetize this data where possible. What all automakers aren’t doing is selling the data to Lexus Nexus which in turn is selling it to insurance companies. Stop spreading disinformation that “all automakers are doing it”. You don’t know what all automakers are doing. You don’t even have a clue.
