    Without watching the video, I was told by a dealer that when buying the old generation motor, go for 250 instead of 300, because 300 wrecks the fuel economy, but with the G2, go for 300. I'm happy with my G2, besides the power steering, which once was stuck on, overdrawing the charging system and causing the charging system protection to shut the engine down at random with no fault codes, and now there is a fault code 214, with no power steering at all the next time it was in the water after being serviced, and the engine sometimes stalls less than 10 seconds after startup but runs normally, neutral to full throttle. Other than those problems, the engine runs and performs just fine. It looks cool in my opinion and sounds menacing at idle.

    yeah, you should buy an etec if you're not too worried about having your expensive injectors/starter motor/ECM going bad because of bad quality. the trim button on the engine on mine also malfunctioned out at sea tilting the engine up at full rpm. the neutral gear switch also failed once limiting me to 1500rpm while far out. then there is the horrible smell from the e-tec oil....

      +Thomas Mack THANK YOU. Although I hate to see good people get taken on such an expensive investment, only to experience more expense & headaches due to dealer & manufacturer HYPE. I've been trying to tell folks for years now, to stay away from these E-tec engines because EVERY time I go to the boat place to buy things for my boat or have any work done to it, I see MORE brand new E-tec motors sitting there, that have FAILED, than all the other brands COMBINED. In 2004, I sold my old boat with Evinrude & bought a new boat with new 115 Yamaha 2 stroke with old-school carbs, and haven't looked back since. That motor never gave me the first problem, and even when it was due to replace the impeller, the old one still had plenty of service life left. My mechanic tried to talk me into waiting, but since he had it torn down, I requested he replace it anyway. To this day, over 11 years later, it still has great compression and the magneto's are firing like new. Ya just can't beat the durability & reliability of a Yamaha outboard......at least in my own personal experience & that of many other boat owners too.

    If i had to choose between a boat with 2,3, or 4 of these or a pair of Cat / Detroit Diesels you can keep these pieces of junk. See which one lasts longer, costs less to run, and holds its resale value. i assure an outbaord engine can not even begin to compare.

    • @dayton191
      @dayton191 3 месяца назад

      You're comparing apples to watermelons here... The comparison makes no sense. Nobody would ever argue your statement. Tell me how many smaller boats

    • @MasterWitchDoctor
      @MasterWitchDoctor 3 месяца назад

      @@dayton191 its "Evinrude" and Ive been on sooooo many work boats with 12V71 TA's (650 hp) in them I cant even remember them all. When you have a 35, 40, or 45 foot boat with 5 or 6 outboards hanging off the stern it starts to look retarded. The cost of these outboards being upwards of 90 grand each vs 45,000 for the 12V71 TA (with a 2 ; 1 Twin Disc transmission) my former boss put in his 48 foot Marine Management makes these outboards look bad. You cant take these boats where he took his and i assure you they dont ride like his did either. So you have a sea plow (a name we gave Hatteras years ago because of how they plow through the waves) big deal, its no 54 Bertram. Im comparing common sense to this, these modern boats are a million dollars or more and burn fuel like crazy. A Cat C18 makes upwards of 1100 hp (unlike a 12V71 TA which at best makes 900 hp) and has more torque than all those outboards combined. Give me an inboard diesel all day long and yes that goes for Shamrock and Morgan who makes a 24 footer with diesels in them too.

    First of all the engine in the video is NOT a G2....the G2 replaced the engine in the video.
    Secondly, Robbins Marine....."taking care of boaters and their families for over 55 years" ????
    Gee I wonder how many franchise agreements he has for engine manufacturers other than Evinrude....maybe he can't handle the competition ???
    As an ETEC G2 owner I can say there is no competition, ETEC blows everything else out of the water in ALL categories, performance, power, maintenance cost, operation costs....the list of advantages is endless. The title of this video is absolute B.S.

    Ours has the over heating issue. Has had since new. The engine is great when it wants to. Even just leisure boat ride the heat alarm goes off. Some trips it’s worse than others. It been to the dealer simply clearinghouse computer of the codes. It’s not a water pump issue. These engines to beat epa rules runs em hotter. Engine is great on fuel etc. my dad is waiting till the engine goes. Their will be a mercury 150 at some point. Dealer can’t replicate the issue because it’s that random. Don’t buy these engines g-2’s loads of new owners had trim issues after issue. I’d prefer a life time warranty just run the engine they fix it. When it’s this bad they ought to replace the engine period. Yes they’ll make them till the end of 2020 just parts after. With us not having a local mechanic certified they ought to come to you.
