I just bought this kit and I noticed something different from yours. The pelvis piece B7 is molded with a rectangular hole that fits one of the Action Base joints, yet it's not mentioned on the instruction manual.
I just picked up the EFF color version this week. It seems that all recent reissues of the HGUC Hizack are Action Base ready. Don't know about the EWAC Zack, though.
I like how you don't hold back your feelings. If something about a kit pisses you off etc, you make it very clear. And that's great for people like me, who are using your reviews to decide what kits to buy. I just recently bought my first Zaku, the HGUC Zaku II FZ, and it's just as cool as you said it was. A great first Zaku.
I like the the design aesthetically but thematically the Titan's zeon-esque designs feel like the writers looking down on the audience and being "Hey look these guys use mobile suits that look like the one the bad guys used in the last series that means these guys are the bad guys! Boo them kids!"
Techincally, it does make sense, but why doesn't AEUG have more zeonic suits? I mean the Rick Dias is a pretty Zeon design, as well as the Dijeh, but why not more?
I got the Hi Zack recently just because it was a cheap kit that looked pretty cool for an older model. Hadn't researched the accessories at all, but as luck would have it, they actually had that weapon set on sale at HLJ at the same time I got the Hi Zack, and on a whim I ordered it because it was only $3. Glad I did now!
The reason I think the Gelgoog could contend with it is that Gelgoogs have a better reactor than the Hizack does, seemingly, since they have no difficulty running a beam naginata and beam rifle. That said, the Hizack's reactor is its biggest flaws, and some of the variations improve on it, bringing the suits abilities up.
This Gunpla is such a huge improvement over the old 1985 kit. I still have the old kit, and it can't do much in terms of poseability. Also, the flimsy rubber hoses refuse to stay in place.
Thanks for the info. I currently use the soft brush technique you mention and it does take a good hour or so it seems to get to them all. I dust mine once every two weeks now because dusting one a week was getting old to me but I love my mobiles so much and hate the dust. : )
Given how imperfectly the missile pods fit, my guess is that Bandai may have been planning an expansion set for the Hizack that updated all the weapons, including missile pods that would fit better. Bandai likely abandoned the idea quickly, but they designed the HGUC Hizack to leave the option open.
Sorry to comment on such an old video, but I was curious about something. Do you have any video detailing your custom Hizack you showed here? Or, do you at least remember the name of that large back-mounted gun you have on it? Great review by the way, I plan on buying the EFSF Hizack at some point, if they don't make a Revive HG of it (here's hoping).
+thelink2yoshi Feel free to ask man! I don't have a video on it, but the bazooka I used is Kotobukiya's freestyle bazooka (www.1999.co.jp/eng/10122366). It connects to any Hizack's backpack without the need for any modification. A revive Hizack with more weapons would be really cool.
+thelink2yoshi The Hizack Cannon eh? 1/220 is a pretty small scale so I think you might be better off going with the HGUC(especially if you're going for fearsomeness). It's a lot more expensive, but you could also steal those functional forearm claws. Oh and for your story, don't forget that the messala was built by Scirocco, so he should be involved with the test type Hizack somehow.
Well I decided on 1/220 scale since the Messala is quite large as compared to a normal sized suit like the Hizack. I had found a link of a Hizack with the 1/220 Byarlant back fins on it and can't find it now but that also helped judge scale. These pictures show that just the legs of the Messala already are the height of the Hizack. dalong.net/review/hg/h55/p/h55_01.jpg dalong.net/review/hg/h157/p/h157_01.jpg

So, old video I know, but I recently got into Gunpla while learning to walk again. I noticed you said that the early 2000's Zaku models didn't have moveable eyes. However, I have a 2001 MS-06 Zaku II that has the moveable eye. Is that kit the earliest example of it? I got to build that, MS-07 Gouf from 2010 or 2011 (cant remember, but it was thereabouts) and the 2020 MS-06S Char's Zaku II, and I did them back to back. It was pretty fascinating seeing how each decade brought new innovations and different methods to building them.
I'm three years late, but the box art of the HG Gundam Mk. II revive (titans ver.) has a Hi-Zack flying behind the Gundam. With the release of the Zaku II (Char's custom) revive, hopefully they'll make a Hi-Zack revive in the future too
@@stefilordofsmugness4108 Bandai and it's refusal to update old grunt suit kits will forever annoy and confuse me, most grunt suits have a million variants they could make P-Bandai just look at all the Gelgoog variants.
By the Federation or Zeon? TBH, it might not matter, since the Gelgoog was quite ahead of its time, while the Hizack was probably well behind the times when it was rolled out. (Hell, I’m pretty sure the Act Zaku could handle both beam rifles and beam sabers at the same time, and those saw limited deployment in the One Year War. Granted, they may not have had beam sabers until the Gryps war, or their generators may have been upgraded.) The primary reason the Gelgoog performed so poorly at the end of the One Year War was that Zeon had already gotten most of their aces and experienced pilots killed off, and so Gelgoog were issued to younger underqualified pilots who couldn’t really take advantage of them. I imagine the situation would just have been worse with the Hizack. Don’t get me wrong. I love the Hizack. It’s a cool-looking Zaku variant with a wide variety of weapons. But objectively, the mobile suit is a piece of garbage that was mainly adopted because the Federation didn’t have the funds for anything better.
The pauldrons and other armor changes on the Hobby warrant me desiring it more than a normal one actually, so I kind of would buy it and do a custom paint :P
Till this day i still don't know why titans a zeon hunting special force use a zaku lookalike as their main mass production MS, it would have make more sense for the aug a space rebel group to use it
This kit comes out in year 2000 at 800 yen and it looks like it have more plastic than the more expensive seed kits than come out two years later. I don't know why bandai doesn't put as much effort to seed kit back then but price them higher 😐
so for those of us who have picked up one of these kits more recently (reissues, I think), what are some good sources of spare loadout parts to use to add appropriate beamsabers, heathawks, and beamrifles?
funny thing is Bandai really mentions about their accurate scale but well, this 20.5m tall hi zack is smaller than 19.2m gelgoog from gundam I ... it would be taller if include its radar poles on backpack. kinda dissapointed. it has the same height to gouf revive which is written 18.2m . ridiculous. i d say i buy hi zack becasue of its height, price , zaku look. but the height is not right.
Canonically, the Hizack is a mediocre mobile suit at best, with basically nothing appearing in Zeta that wasn't a superior suit to it. Even the older Gelgoog with Nemo guts might be better, or would have been with a reactor actually made for it. The option set working for this is great, though you let the cat out of the bag on this one by having the blue Hizack show that before. For all of the colors and such, 800 yen is fair. With the pack, not bad, especially if you get a second one.
I’ve seen a theory on this. The theory goes that the Titans adopted the Hizack not only because it was cheap, but also because it helped with training. The Titans were formed to hunt down Zeon remnants, who would most likely be using Zakus among other OYW machines. By painting their Hizacks in Zaku green, they could simulate targets that they would be shooting at in live fire scenarios. Of course, the Federation also adopted the Hizack, but since they didn’t need to practice shooting specifically at Zeon units they opted to paint theirs in blue. Alternatively, blue Hizacks were the standard, but the Titans had green Hizacks specifically for training purposes, but they had to be pushed out on the front lines when the Gryps war started.
I like it based on how damn silly it looks. I think it'd be a pretty unpopular HG if they made it, given the color scheme and the fact it'd likely come with nothing, but the idea of it being made amuses me.
Thorne Stark After the one year war a lot of Zeon scientist were taken in by Anaheim electronics(the people who make all the suits) so when the federation bought new suits from them they kept their Zeonic design.
Nope, I'd want it solely for it's physical attributes. I mean...you yourself were just implying you think it would be a donk decision on their part, but you now like the color enough? lol
White Glint yeah but the ability to hold its rifle is crap, and the magazine on mine keeps falling off, the quality of the glue on the foot seals is pretty bad as well.
White Glint its solidly built its just that other early HGUCs (like the guncannon) have for some reason better articulation than it, the only reason I said it cant hold its rifle is because of the stock design, which is the same problem kakarot mentioned in his GM Quel Review, the Magazine thing is a legit beef I have against it tho.
