Just started our store last week, did some Halloween and now we’re scrambling for fall. We have tons of evergreen but takes a while to fill up the listings.
Unless you are in australia then in november the heat scares us indoors :P
Another reason to have a description is for visually impaired shoppers. Just saying t shirt isn’t helpful for them.
THANKS for the great tips and suggestions!! BTW - what do you think of the relocation of etsy description area? Do you have an inside scoop to them directly to let them know this is not a great idea? It was already not the greatest at very small font - Of course, I'll be using those extra photo fields to add info on description - but geez seems like extra work we shouldn't have to do... your thoughts?
I unfortunately have no official ties with Etsy themselves, so I'm not able to supply any additional feedback to them. My suggestion is to comment on their professional channels like the "Etsy Success" social media pages, as well as the official "Etsy" LinkedIn to share feedback. I'm definitely not a fan either but they run a LOT of tests before the holidays - so there's a chance that this isn't a permanent change.

I usually suggest giving a listing 60-90 days before making any changes.

I do not concentrate on POD specifically. My suggestion is to look at other POD shops and see what their policies are to get ideas what you need to include in yours.

My shirt is a licensed Dodge product that I bought at Target. And obtaining a license for big companies can run in the MILLIONS of dollars. So unfortunately it's not something you could legally sell without obtaining a license. I'll actually be creating videos soon on legal licensing. You just have to aim for small targets. For example, my business partner and I are licensing with authors to make merchandise for their books. Which is much easier then big brands, TV shows, musicians, companies, etc. 🙂

Starla, I'm having trouble accessing my Etsy store from the desktop. I can access Etsy seller login from my phone no problem. Any suggestions?
This unfortunately sounds like an Etsy support question.
Do you think we should make our Christmas listings live now? or wait a few months?
If we list now, we could risk our listings disappearing by the time the holiday season starts
List them as soon as you can. Listings don't disappear from search. People are actively searching for holiday items right now so listing early is a great way to get early holiday engagement.

I live in Germany and I have an etsy account. Is there an advantage for the algorithm to create the list completely in English?
Etsy translates the listing for each user. Therefore, if you list in German, it should automatically translate to English for users than need it.
Hey Starla, I noticed that etsy removed all our product descriptions. Is this a glitch, or are they permanently removing them?
They are now located under our reviews on the right side. I believe this is something they are testing so hopefully it isn't a permanent change.
@StarlaMoore this is one of their worst ideas ever. Do you know how many customers have inbox me about product info that is located in my descriptions. Smh! I have also probably lost sales because they couldn't find the info they were looking for. They need to leave the platform alone. Thanks for answering me so fast. Do you make 1-1 sessions?
Unfortunately, I receive literally 100s of requests like this per day, and with an audience of over 50,000, it would be impossible for me to offer personalized advice to those who are not in my coaching program and still be able to create weekly videos, live streams, and free resources. Especially since I'm a one-woman show with no staff.
With that said, I highly recommend checking out my past Etsy shop critique live streams, which I host every few months on my channel. By watching replays of past streams, you can learn a ton about the criteria that I use when critiquing shops. Especially since 99.9% of the time, I give the exact same pieces of advice. There is a playlist of all Etsy shop critiques on my RUclips channel.
