Can confirm, even in the high fidelity mode! And it makes a big difference. Speeding across the city in high-def mode with 60fps nearly-always locked is freaking awesome. I think I've had one or two dips so far (still early in my playthrough), but it was minor, short *and* I'm one of those people who will notice that stuff instantly. I would highly recommend people giving this a second chance or finishing their (second-) playthrough on Ps5. Trust me you won't regret it. The Game on PS4 Pro, running the resolution mode, had a lot of ghosting (pun not intended lol) due to the checkerboard rendering. I’ve noticed this isn’t really the case anymore on PS5. Is this because of the temporal resolution being doubled thanks to the frame rate?
With (internal) dynamic resolution the game may end up reconstructing from frames at different resolutions, resulting in some frames being softer as a result. Due to PS5’s capabilities the game is rendering each frame at full res, meaning no variance in the output resolution for the temporal upscale to contend with. As such every frame will retain the same quality.
Ghosting has nothing to do with resolution it's more to do with frame rate / refresh rate / response time. Ghosting is caused by the screen, not the game or console. If you have a screen that causes ghosting, it'll do it for probably every game, although it won't be as noticeable at 60fps, compared to 30fps.
@@Matt7R No I remember this specifically being an issue with the resolution mode. If I switched to the frame rate mode, the issue was completely absent. @MegaRayland explained it really well I think.

the experience improvement from 30 fps to 60 fps is stark. The same difference is felt on PC, and when going to 90fps, or 120+ it is even more so. The smoothness is just amazing. I look forward to seeing when consoles will value the high frame rate over expansive resolutions. I agree it looks wonderful in 4k, but with action games with a lot of movement, a higher frame rate is truly what makes the whole experience better.
We'll surely get TLOU 2 upgrade. But sadly, no uncharted upgrades. Because uncharted is free now, and putting upgrades on those games will get them no money. :/
@@kipa_chu PC elitists are only annoying when they continue to argue about not playing a console game because it's at 30 fps. Back then, console players had no choice but they still enjoyed it. PC gamers just wanted to complain.
It’s hard to convey just what a difference it makes in a video like this. Having all the pixels refreshed twice as often does wonders for the image quality. It just looks so much better.
I've been playing this on PS5 after dropping it on PS4 Pro at release. It's a stark difference and has really helped my enjoyment. Also Legends mode is fantastic. Really hoping some other PS4 first party games get this like God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian, TLOU II, Uncharted, etc.
Anything with a SOLID 60FPS has my thumbs up. 30FPS was farcical in 2010. It's 2021.... Anything less than a flatlined 60FPS is nothing short of half assed from the developers. Also, the over reaching of dynamic resolution is a MAJOR ISSUE I am VERY worried about. 1440p is absolutely the way to go unless you're on a 65+ inch HDTV (or sitting 6 inches from a 32 inch!) If we note, the year, 2021!! Once more, one could ARGUE 4k/120 should be the standard, however, I am not personally caring or asking, I am ASKING give us the option please devs, for a SOLID, SOLID 60FPS, at 1440p. I feel, once again, in 2021, this is NOT greedy :/ Just, make it stable. Thank you so much to DF for working with devs and bringing awareness to frame rate issues.
I just can't stand all this 4K buzz it's UTTERLY pointless just for a selling label, unless you're playing on a HUGE, HUGE HDTV, 1440p is absolutely fine. Near indistinguishable unless you side by side 6 inches from the screen. 1440p/60 option please devs. Let people select 120hz if they choose to ofc, if they don't care about drops, or ideally have VRR, options are important, however some of us just want locked 1440p/60
I think your outlook is a little too absolute. It's really something that needs to be considered on a more case by cases basis. Some games need that 60 more than others, and some games only hit 30 due to lazy programming, while others miss out on 60 because the devs were going for graphical quality instead. Now you might disagree with that focus on fidelity over frame rate, but it's not fair to say it's half assed work. Unless of course they don't make the trade off worth it, ie. It looks awful and performs awfully
At last.. I've been waiting for this since the 'PlayStation 5 Backwards Compatibility Tested' video cause John said they're gonna do a separate video on it. It's finally here. Thanks Richard & Happy New Year to everyone in the DF team!
I love higher consistent frame rates for all moment-to-moment gameplay as much as the next guy. However, I can't help think that games with a cinematic look and tone could begin to offer the option to limit the frame-rates specifically for cutscenes. While I don't own the game, Ghost of Tsushima certainly looks like it plays better at 60fps, but from the footage in this video I feel like 60fps cutscenes breaks the cinema-feel the game otherwise delivers (at least visually). I can't think of any game that has offered a 'cutscene-only frame-rate limit'. Maybe I'm crazy to think this is a good idea, but I imagine that animators and cinematic directors at game developers feel a smoother frame-rate fails to deliver a more cinematic experience. From an art perspective, varying frame-rates do have their place and purpose - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse demonstrates this, as well as any high budget non-3D animated flick. Does anyone else have similar thoughts?
Absolutely. The game, and plenty of other 3rd person highly-cinematic games look much better at 30fps. Anyone who insults you for that opinion doesn't understand film.
Disappointed there are no graphical upgrades. I was hoping for longer view distances, higher quality grass, better AF, better textures and effects. The downgrades from the 2018 reveal to the retail version are fairly significant, the trees (especially the bamboo) and other world models and details are less complex, specular lighting is almost entirely gone except for specific locations. I hope there will be a dedicated PS5 upgrade at some point.

What's even better with the PC-version is that it can play in 21:9 and it has even been completely reworked for it. I wish for consoles that an aspect-ratio option will be another norm, for developers who want to compose for that. - It's unlikely because the 16:9 TV-standard isn't going anywhere, but as more and more people will adopt 21:9-monitors and probably also hook up consoles to them, it MIGHT happen. - Framerate is one thing, which I only care about if there's action and precision needed. But 16:9 just feels "square" once you go ultra-wide, which feels much more natural.
This game not only achieves greatness when it comes to squeezing last gen to it's max, but delivers one of the BEST shadows & lightning on this console. An important note about smartshift that DF has overlooked. Both CPU and GPU can run on max clocks at the same time - unless the system is stressed. As an example this can happen when the CPU is hit with a massive amount of 256bit instructions. its not really a "cinematic" game aside from the cutscenes. Its heavily combat/action driven and the parry timing feels so much better at 60fps. the experience improvement from 30 fps to 60 fps is stark.
Grass is so green and nice but the mountain tops looks so blocky and the feet is flowing in the air @8:51. And how is this PS5 version vs PC?
The music that plays when you scroll to this game on ps5, is absolutely hypnotizing. I listen to it all the time.
The fuck are you talking about?

Yeah, the dashboard music. Its this woodwind Japanese melody that is so damn good
Let’s pray that we get this in Uncharted 4, Lost Legacy and The Last of Us Part 2.
But why ? Didn't you consolers used to say that 30 fps is good and comfortable ?
You used to say 4k was useless ? Back in 2013/2014, remember ? xD
We'll surely get TLOU 2 upgrade. But sadly, no uncharted upgrades. Because uncharted is free now, and putting upgrades on those games will get them no money. :/
Last of us part 2 already plays and looks super smooth I cant wait what it will offerr on PS5 in the future😱
1800p and 30fps was good? 🤣
Ff7 and tlou2 NEED these updates ASAP
Finally!!!! I’ve been waiting for this!!!
AGREED
I just can't stand all this 4K buzz it's UTTERLY pointless just for a selling label, unless you're playing on a HUGE, HUGE HDTV, 1440p is absolutely fine. Near indistinguishable unless you side by side 6 inches from the screen. 1440p/60 option please devs. Let people select 120hz if they choose to ofc, if they don't care about drops, or ideally have VRR, options are important, however some of us just want locked 1440p/60
XD no 1440p doesnt look close to 4k.
Only with good image recontruction, like DLSS.
Spent the last two weeks getting the plat for it on ps5, looked amazing.
One of the best games out there. Amazing fighting, great story, fun side missions and skills/weapons upgrades. Props to Sucker Punch 👊🏻
At last.. I've been waiting for this since the 'PlayStation 5 Backwards Compatibility Tested' video cause John said they're gonna do a separate video on it. It's finally here. Thanks Richard & Happy New Year to everyone in the DF team!
Thank goodness, your back. everyday was checking my youtube rec
From an art perspective, varying frame-rates do have their place and purpose -
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse demonstrates this, as well as any high budget non-3D animated flick.
Yes no graphical upgrade, I don't know why many people say there's a graphics upgrade

Happy to have Richard back and doing this video!
Is it even worth paying extra bucks for the upgrade? Not talking to Director's cut, but for the PS5 upgrade? What do we really gain?
Better resolution if you play on Resolution mode, better shadows, particle effects, draw distance. Basically better overall graphics.
Furthermore, the upgrade also include DualSense haptic feedbacks and adaptive trigger support which will enhance your experience on PS5.
If i remember correctly the PS5 version also give you the ability to change control scheme ( R1 to attack instead of Square for example).
Making a video on GOT, a huge W to start 2021 with from DF!
Replaying this on PS5 and it's even more awesome. This should have been GOTY
There are multiple GOTY awards. Don't take TGAs too seriously. They are mostly a big ol marketing event where the industry pats themselves on the backs. A lot of people really praised Tsushima or other amazing games like Hades, Doom Eternal, Half-Life Alyx, Spiritfarer, Ori 2,etc.

I really hope Death Stranding gets a PS5 patch. The game was intended to run at 60 FPS in the first place, and after seeing it realized on PC, I can't go back.
After traversing much of this beautiful land, seeing transitions in themes, colours, etc., I was blown out of my shoes when I started haunted forest quest. And it was on PS4 Pro. When I finally got a chance to play this on PS5, I immedietly started NG+ just to be able to whitstand opening scenes again.
30 fps looking a Hollywood movie. And 60 fps looking real life.
I mean movies playback at 24fps but you're also not directly interacting with it and there's motion blur, games however feel sooo much better when running at a higher frame rate.

At the end of the day all "cinematic" really means is "we purposely chose a shitty frame rate so we could hide things from the viewer and wouldn't have to worry about as many details." It makes sense for movies. but there's absolutely nothing "cinematic" about a shitty combat experience in 30fps. Its an outdated frame rate that is likely gone for ever with next gen.
