And that just goes to show you that in the last erra we really were at a points where it was the games that were the bottleneck, not the hardware. World size, density, gameplay, npc interactions, everything is limited by the programmers, not the hardware. Next gen pushed a new raytracing feature and sealed in the ability for some higher framerates (something pc has been doing for ages now) and bump the resolutions, but over all we wont see any difference in world sizes, npc activities, story, gameplay, ect.

Bad comparison (and old comment) but I played H:ZD on PC with maxed settings, and then I played H:FW on an og ps4 and aside from the framerate, the visuals of H:FW are so much stunningly better it's not even close. It's not just the asset quality, it's the art direction and modeling work. Characters feel a lot more like People, there's a lot more use of contrast in environmental visuals, and the camera work in setpieces is even better. H:ZD is great but it feels like just a proof of concept compared to FW.

It's down to diminishing returns in improvements to visual fidelity. These type of cross then games weren't possible even coming from 7th to 8th gen. The different between ps3 and ps4 version of the same game would just be immediately visible without needing any kind of comparison. Then another gen back and "cross gen" games were practically different versions of the game. You simply could not run ps3 games on a ps2.

When you've spent more time with a system and you've learned it's ins and outs, you can pull off some truly amazing feats on the system. Some other late console cycle games I admire are games like Ristar on Genesis (just look at all the colors and unique animations), the Spyro series on PS1 (awesome draw distance technique), and this is more mid cycle but Jak 2 on PS2. But the ps4 version is still great looking nonetheless. Now with the patched peformance mode the best way is to play the game in 60 fps on the PS5 and it's a difference to the PS4, it's way more smooth with a much cleaner look with more details and less pop in and better lighting. Death Stranding’s graphics are unbelievable, and now Forbidden West is here to take the crown again. I seem to be having a very different experience on PS5. Moments of frame rate instability in performance mode, very annoying pop-in in some places as well as Aloy clipping through objects (particularly glaring on a particular signal tower). Also nearly got stuck on the environment once as the collision detection seems as iffy as Zero Dawn, made kinda worse by the new climbing/gliding as you transition between climbable objects and ones that cannot.
Its not quite as terrible as the above makes it sound mind you, but its the fact it will be absolutely 100% in one section then these things happen that makes it feel more jarring.
Seeing you once again talk about how stable it is, I think I need to find a campfire and reboot the console as something just seems off with my experience.

I think it’s totally worthwhile to put a ssd in a ps4 pro to get more life out of the system while Ps5 comes down in price/gets more storage/pro version/more exclusive games. As far as loading times zero dawn loads really quick on my ssd. I imagine the same is true for forbidden west. Although I dont like any kind of exclusivity I have to admit: *optimising the game for only two (with PS4 Pro lets say 3) platforms seems to be much more manageable* than optimising such a AAA title on like 7+ platforms (like Cyberpunk)!
So maybe this is one part of *the recipe for a great launch: focus on just one ecosystem* (here it's PlayStation, CP2077 should have been PC only at first, Forza on XBox ...) and bring the other platforms a year or so later! This way each system gets a focus on launch and combines the resources of a dev team!

Ps5 has significantly more memory for textures, higher resolution, and the cpu power for higher quality effects. If you are still on a ps4 now you are just in it for the game and not really hard up on the visuals. PS4Pro users are the ones who have spent additional money to improve visuals over the past several years while making their way to the ps5, and it is precisely why videos like these needs to be between the ps4pro and ps5 so we can judge if the visuals in games are at the level to make the financial jump now or can we wait?

    Another great analysis.
I'm curious to see if running a PS4 Pro with an SSD would improve the pop-in situation.

I'm doing just that (samsung 860evo I think) and haven't seen a single pop-in, but I'm not that far into the the game yet. It looks pretty but I think I'm less impressed than with the HZD, the environments seem too messy (too many colors and elements) for my taste, but that's just an art direction thing, not a technical issue.

lol nope it doesn't work like that..even IF you use the ps4 pro with an SSD it will not be able to fully USE the speed of the SSD

@@infrasonicrebasses4763 Cleary the game has to be coded with the SSD as a given, which is not the case on the PS4 Pro version. That being said, I don't see any pop-in issues. I see something lese that might be related to the SSD though : something, when I move really fast for whatever reason (speedy mount, jump from heights with the glide), I get a 1-2 seconds of black screen, like the rest of the system is trying to catch up where I am. But there's no graphical issues whatsoever like things not loading, when the screen comes back everything is fine.

Recently completed both HZD and FW on standard PS4 Slim and I was blown away for the age of the console.

I'm amazed how good it looks on ps4 and ps4 pro, it looks way better than zero dawn and that still looks amazing too. Also, I use a WD blue internal sata Ssd on my pro and the game loads between 15-20 seconds (multiple tests) from menu, not tried fast travel yet.

Yeah- a SSD in a Pro is a really good investment 😉
