That's how I ended up here to begin with, the first 2 reviews I watched focused on the graphics and textures almost exclusively like it was the most important.
Since it’s $10 I’m gonna get it. Even if I don’t touch it I like the idea of the numbers being there for cheap upgrades instead of the $60 “it’s a new game” prices
@nickshaffer7659 I believe that if you have the disc version then that has to be in with everything loaded as well as waiting until tomorrow for the option to appear.
The combat is so much more complex in HFW, especially if you focused on melee, that when I returned to HZD a few months ago I just obliterated everything in sight. I had to impose artificial limits on myself on UH difficulty just to give myself a challenge. It's unbelievable how much easier Thunderjaws are in HZD once you've mastered them in HFW. Watchers are still a PITA though.
I just did the same it was fun. Tip- set game to "story" mode, dash to "Frozen Wilds " get their General bow and dash back to starting point of game and begin game with a much nicer bow .
We get a full and complete remaster for a $10 upgrade for what was initially a PS exclusive in the same week that we get a completely barebones RDR1 for full price without a single remaster/upgrade beyond view distance. It's appalling to see how poorly Rockstar handled the RDR1 port when we can see how much of a huge jump in graphics and improvements can be made by a dev company that actually cares to see their game improve.
And yet it seemed every other comment on Reddit regarding the remaster was some variation of ‘It wasn’t needed! Why didn’t they remake or remaster ???’ Or ‘All they did was slap some new graphics on it and charge us money!’ It was infuriating.
maybe I'm the only one who's that fussy but I don't like the fact that aloys hair in the Remastered is as long as it is in hfw. I always liked the theory that it grows over the time when she searched for a GAIA backup. Because she had no time to cut it.
I've NEVER had HZD look as bad as it does in these comparison side-by-sides. Then again, I've never played it on a PS. For PC players, this is a pretty unnecessary remaster

Yeah, HZD is special: that sense of wonder and discovery. Of beauty and coming danger. For me HFW only scratched that itch for 30 percent. The last main story mission was so underwhelming and disappointing for me...
I'm surprised that STILL no one is talking about some of the story level tweaks they made. It's definitely not quite as gritty in some places. For example, the first ruins you go into as a child, they remapped some of the bodies that you find, and definitely lessens some of the shock you feel of "WTF happened to this old world?" at the beginning of the game.
Me too. Zero Dawn was the game that really made his channel break through that barrier of low end, to top tier. Even if you look at his views from before Zero Dawn came out and then after, it’s clear

Yes I got it since it was only a $10 upgrade for me. One big change I noticed that I'm surprised you didn't mention is the grass deforms just like it did in forbidden W. When she walks on foliage or short grass you can literally see the grass getting deformed and a trial left behind from where you've been walking. Especially if you crouch walk.
Other settlements are more populated, too. Mother's cradle and mother's heart feel more lively and I'm pretty sure mothers crown has a few more npcs as well
In Australia the upgrade price is $15, not letting that put me off as I have played through the game a couple of times and thoroughly enjoy it. It is one of those rare games that allows noobs and experts to enjoy the same game due to it having good difficulty settings. Definitely going to get this upgrade. Thanks for the review..

I do that load times and improved facial features and that Feature to turn off the animation for picking up items. This is one of my favorite stores so $10 was a no brainer
I was apprehensive about a remaster. But, considering it's only $10, and the most important part, I can transfer my save so I can still start with all my gear, it's suddenly worth it
Picked up the Remaster today and then played for 3 hours. Only finished FW a few months back(I'm slow at games) so it was nice to jump back to a simpler version of this world. Plus I can spam tripwires like the unhinged savage I am.
The only accessibility setting missing that I would want is keeping the camera left-aligned. I set this way in Forbidden West and it's hard to go back to the dynamic shifting one. Hopefully an update will rectify this, admittedly small, issue I have.
The customizable difficulty seals the deal for me. I always wanted to play on the hardest difficulty but I didn't like the increase in merchant prices. That just made it more grindy.
I have already bought the game & am playing it already too. I’m loving it! It’s one of my favourite series when it comes to games. I cannot wait for Horizon 3! I did too my very first time playing the game. When the developers finally unlocked the frame rate for the PlayStation 5 that's when I gave it another shot. That made all the difference in the world to me at the time. Playing a game like this at 30 frames per second is just torture.
This is what I call a remaster 100% . They took the formula and gave quality of life improvements. Plus, they upgraded everything without destroying the identity of zero dawn. They didn't need to add everything from forbidden west, just some additions. Overall since I haven't played in a this game a long while feels awesome just to revisit.
Well it should be said that while the changes over the initial PS version are definitely visible it is not that much of an upgrade for owners of the PC version. Most of the enhancements in the remaster were already present on the PC version release of the complete edition. So the changes feel way more marginal there. Then again you can get it for just 10 bucks if you own the original on PC - which seems fair.
I got a late start on Zero Dawn and dropped it about 1/3rd of the way through when Forbidden West came out. Probably at 150ish hours on it today. Definitely want to go back and revisit the rest of the first game and Frozen Wilds
This is my first time to play HZD so I feel fortunate I could play this, the remastered version, as my first. Very excited to spend hours in the game just marveling at the world and enjoying the hunting and mission aspects. Btw for the pick up animation, try the AUTO option. I think that’s the one you would want if you just want to collect the items without pressing anything. Cheers!
I'm using the remaster to do my Ultra Hard play-through... from scratch! No imports, no running through on easier difficulty first. It's a blast and so beautiful. At first I was like, eh graphics quality hasn't changed that much. So I booted up the original HZD... oh my gosh. It's night and day. I took some side by side pics for comparison. Really is amazing how much extra colour and detail the remaster has.
One of the things I wish they would change is Aloys volume when she whistles for a mount. I wear headphones and her whistle is so freaking loud that I have to take them off when she does it.
I hadn't played it in several years so I started fresh (but with New Game+). It looks amazing, but there are some bugs they probably need to sort out. Some characters that interact with Aloy can be glitchy and some seem to show a lower framerate within the high framerate (it looks as weird as it sounds). Also they clearly improved mouth movements but they seem a bit forced and unnatural during conversations with characters in the game.
It’s crazy because playing it, I feel like it’s exactly the same as I remember, but watching these videos reminds me how much they actually upgraded EVERYTHING 😂🎉
I just bought the physical version of the remaster wnd OMG it looks insane. I would have paid $70 for this game because its so well done I cannot believe it 😮
It actually does have an auto pickup option. The number of these videos that mention that specifically I suppose didn’t see it but I played through the whole game without ever really needing to pick up items
Currently blitzing through the remaster with custom difficulty settings. As you said Jor, for the price of the upgrade, it is definitely worth it. I am biased as I love Horizon and will play any of the titles because I want to support the studio as much as possible.
Just got it. I never actually finish the ps4 version so this is a great chance to go through the whole thing at current gen levels and at £10 you cant complain.

@@Carlile123456 That's the main issue I have with the account linking. If Playstation accounts were available in all regions, it really would be no different than Ubisoft and Rockstar requiring accounts to play their games on PC. I'm not a fan of needing those accounts, but having that stipulation doesn't prevent millions of consumers from being able to play the game in those cases. I'll probably upgrade for the simple fact that I haven't finished the game yet, and I already have a Playstation 5, so I don't need to make a new account to play the game on PC. It looks like a substantial enough upgrade that it will be worth $10 for me, personally, to experience a better version to finish my playthrough.
I am a Huge Horizon zero Dawn fan . Whether it needed a remaster are not I will still play this amazing game. I have played this game 5 times since its release and I'm gonna play it again so im definitely looking forward to it!
Anyone else playing and having it crash a ton of times? In my 30 hours, it's probably fully crashed like 10-12 times? During one big boss battle it crashed twice, so I had comple it almost 3 full times!
On that pickup animation thing. Wasn't it possible in the og version to pick up flowers and stuff while running and not stopping already? I remember being able to do that. If you were not full sprinting you would stop to pick up stuff, but as long as you're sprinting you could mash the pickup button as you run by and it would just quick pick up
I'm finding these ultra short load times to be a little jarring sometimes. Like in Spiderman 2 when you fast travel and you are basically teleporting? I feel like there should be a short forced land screen to simulate the fact that it took time for the character to go from point A to point B.
Im curious how it will run on steamdeck. Im lucky I got it the complete edition before the price increase and enjoyed playing it on the deck, but Im going to wait to buy the remaster until I see how it performs.
Definitely going to pick the up the upgrade. I haven't finished either HZD or HFW yet (been distracted with other games) but one of the major reasons I didn't get furter in HZD was the little things with graphics. Since it's only 10 bucks, it's an easy buy for me. Maybe that'll give me the motivation to pick it up again and finally finish it. I didn't purchase PS5 for this remaster or HFW but I have both on PS5, so... Definitely gonna buy the remaster and try to finish both games. I like the mechanics in HFW more but I love the story of HZD more.
The lighting in Meridea is also updated. You have time of day lighting and shadows. Also, you are way better at the game than the guys who played it at Digital Foundry. They kept missing easy shots on watchers. I am impatiently waiting for the game to get the $10 upgrade for my PS4 version. My brother will have to be annoyed with me playing it again
I love the game, it's still one of the best looking open world games available. However, it irks me that they couldn't fix any of the clipping issues. Seeing the hair of all characters clip through their bodies is quite immersion breaking now.
This is the perfect opportunity to get back into this game especially with it only being 10 bucks when you own the original. Plus it looks so good like a full remake instead just a remaster, idk why so many people are hating on it
Had a noodle around with it this afternoon. Looks gorgeous. Probably my favourite game (certainly of the modern era) and I got it for free originally so I don't begrudge a tenner on it!
I definitely picked this game up, although I don’t plan on playing it now just because I’m on Black Ops 6 with my boys. I’m glad they disallowed trophy auto pop as I’ll be able to 100% the game again, zerodawn is definitely in my top 5 favourite games of all time. I now wait to find out what happened after forbidden west🤣

Respectfully, I think that's kinda the point. The Forbidden West itself doesn't have any large cultural or architectural hubs like Meridian because of the ways the societies that live there are constructed (the Quen are visiting, the Carja city is an outpost, the Tanakth are very spread out and only united as one tribe very recently, and the Utaru have lots of farmland that they focus their efforts on). Maybe the main city of the Utaru is close, but they seem to be more utilitarian in their construction so their city's intrigue comes from being built on those giant dishes. All's to say, I think it fits in-universe for Meridian to be so uniquely impressive among all the major cities!
The remaster looks great, and I love the zero dawn franchise, but I'll wait on picking it up. I'm playing Stellar Blade right now and want to finish that first.
That’s a very thorough review on the improvements, great video! Question: how is handled the transition from base game’s final mission to Frozen Wilds? Does it still feel a bit disjointed or there’s a proper breadcrumb into it?
Has anyone been able to find out if they’ve brought over the inventory system from forbidden west or if it’s still limited? Cant seem to find an answer.
I like hanging out in that world admiring the scenery. So yes, I happily paid the £10. Especially as I didn't pay a thing for the game originally, having picked it up when it was given away during the pandemic. Got it all downloaded, impatiently awaiting the unlock.

They did add Soft Shadows.. some improvements but yeah its barebone.

Aloy is beautiful, they actually fixed a ton of lighting issues with characters.

Dropped the OG after 6 hours, but I'll give another try with the remaster

I love that you could remap the mount button from triangle to square so its more like Forbidden West and you wont accidentally dismount while looting.

one thing i probably missed - but has been inventory space expanded in HZD or not ? bag space was always an issue for me when playing HZD.
why is no one talking about those who owned the game (purchased) and then lost it when it was de-listed because of the psn requirement
Currently blitzing through the remaster with custom difficulty settings. As you said Jor, for the price of the upgrade, it is definitely worth it. I am biased as I love Horizon and will play any of the titles because I want to support the studio as much as possible.
Just got it. I never actually finish the ps4 version so this is a great chance to go through the whole thing at current gen levels and at £10 you cant complain.
Playing this again in 2024 is just as thrilling as it was in 2017 when it first came out!
I got it for the idea of “you know what I’m not paying full price and I can get behind that”

Kind of a bummer that the trophies won't pop up if you upload your PS4 data but at the same time, I dont mind going for the Platinum again
It also changes one other thing. You have to connect to PSN to play. Why? No reason for me to bother with this.

@@Pulverizer2000 I'll answer you. I'm a PC player. I've never and will never own a Play Station or any other console. Sony doesn't need my info. There is no reason for PC players to have a PSN account. I have no idea why Sony is pulling this nonsense but I'm personally not participating.

The true downside of needing to link to PSN is that it isn’t available in all regions thus excluding people who wanna enjoy the games
@@Carlile123456 That's the main issue I have with the account linking. If Playstation accounts were available in all regions, it really would be no different than Ubisoft and Rockstar requiring accounts to play their games on PC. I'm not a fan of needing those accounts, but having that stipulation doesn't prevent millions of consumers from being able to play the game in those cases. I'll probably upgrade for the simple fact that I haven't finished the game yet, and I already have a Playstation 5, so I don't need to make a new account to play the game on PC. It looks like a substantial enough upgrade that it will be worth $10 for me, personally, to experience a better version to finish my playthrough.
If I remember correctly, skipping pickup animations was an option in the original.

I am a Huge Horizon zero Dawn fan . Whether it needed a remaster are not I will still play this amazing game. I have played this game 5 times since its release and I'm gonna play it again so im definitely looking forward to it!
Anyone else playing and having it crash a ton of times? In my 30 hours, it's probably fully crashed like 10-12 times? During one big boss battle it crashed twice, so I had comple it almost 3 full times!

On that pickup animation thing. Wasn't it possible in the og version to pick up flowers and stuff while running and not stopping already? I remember being able to do that. If you were not full sprinting you would stop to pick up stuff, but as long as you're sprinting you could mash the pickup button as you run by and it would just quick pick up

I'm finding these ultra short load times to be a little jarring sometimes. Like in Spiderman 2 when you fast travel and you are basically teleporting? I feel like there should be a short forced land screen to simulate the fact that it took time for the character to go from point A to point B.

Im curious how it will run on steamdeck. Im lucky I got it the complete edition before the price increase and enjoyed playing it on the deck, but Im going to wait to buy the remaster until I see how it performs.
Definitely going to pick the up the upgrade. I haven't finished either HZD or HFW yet (been distracted with other games) but one of the major reasons I didn't get furter in HZD was the little things with graphics. Since it's only 10 bucks, it's an easy buy for me. Maybe that'll give me the motivation to pick it up again and finally finish it. I didn't purchase PS5 for this remaster or HFW but I have both on PS5, so... Definitely gonna buy the remaster and try to finish both games. I like the mechanics in HFW more but I love the story of HZD more.
The lighting in Meridea is also updated. You have time of day lighting and shadows. Also, you are way better at the game than the guys who played it at Digital Foundry. They kept missing easy shots on watchers. I am impatiently waiting for the game to get the $10 upgrade for my PS4 version. My brother will have to be annoyed with me playing it again
I love the game, it's still one of the best looking open world games available. However, it irks me that they couldn't fix any of the clipping issues. Seeing the hair of all characters clip through their bodies is quite immersion breaking now.
This is the perfect opportunity to get back into this game especially with it only being 10 bucks when you own the original. Plus it looks so good like a full remake instead just a remaster, idk why so many people are hating on it
Had a noodle around with it this afternoon. Looks gorgeous. Probably my favourite game (certainly of the modern era) and I got it for free originally so I don't begrudge a tenner on it!

I definitely picked this game up, although I don’t plan on playing it now just because I’m on Black Ops 6 with my boys. I’m glad they disallowed trophy auto pop as I’ll be able to 100% the game again, zerodawn is definitely in my top 5 favourite games of all time. I now wait to find out what happened after forbidden west🤣
I like it but they should add more to the game. How about changing armor look or "transmog" like part 2 has. Item sorting would be nice too.
Does the camera keep changing sides ? Because in Forbidden west you can choose which side you want the camera to stay on

Meridian feels much more impressive than any of the locations in Forbidden West imo
Respectfully, I think that's kinda the point. The Forbidden West itself doesn't have any large cultural or architectural hubs like Meridian because of the ways the societies that live there are constructed (the Quen are visiting, the Carja city is an outpost, the Tanakth are very spread out and only united as one tribe very recently, and the Utaru have lots of farmland that they focus their efforts on). Maybe the main city of the Utaru is close, but they seem to be more utilitarian in their construction so their city's intrigue comes from being built on those giant dishes. All's to say, I think it fits in-universe for Meridian to be so uniquely impressive among all the major cities!

The remaster looks great, and I love the zero dawn franchise, but I'll wait on picking it up. I'm playing Stellar Blade right now and want to finish that first.

I like hanging out in that world admiring the scenery. So yes, I happily paid the £10. Especially as I didn't pay a thing for the game originally, having picked it up when it was given away during the pandemic.
