Great video - used the tutorial for an Audi Q7. Worked Great I ended up using a foaming engine cleaner I didn’t cover the alternator but I rinsed it thoroughly
Thank you. Make sure you cover up as many electrical components as possible. Be careful of touching the battery for obvious reasons. Don’t put the stream of water to close, and really more on the chemicals and agitation. Good luck 👍🏼
Nick, is that CarPro Perl you're dressing the engine with? If so what ratio, and are there any other dressings you would recommend. Also congrats on 20k subs, well deserved!
Hi there, I have the same car, thanks for the tutorial. I was wondering though, will this affect the headlight ballasts? One of mine recently shorted out from I’m guessing either the car wash or nearly flooding rain, and everything was well sealed so I can’t imagine directly blasting water is good for this?
Hi, no problem at all. Providing that the headlights are fully sealed and there should be no problem. I don’t rely on the pressure washer to remove the dirt, I use it more to just rinse the area. Try not to go too close to the engine bay with the stream of water and try and rely on the chemicals
I want to follow this video to clean my q5 engine. But little nervous.... I have heard that we need to cover alternator make sure no water go in. Unsure where is alternator
It’s perfectly safe on modern engine bay plugs, I just wouldn’t advise obviously putting it no where near the battery terminal. Or unplug the battery if you are wanting to be double safe
@@HarpersCarDetailing bro there is a Difference between some Raindrops and spraying water in the engine bay. Ask every mechanic and they will give you the Same answer. Cleaning your engine bay Like that causes more harm then good.
Nice but may I please suggest REALLY lowering or even eliminating the music. You voice inflects and the music is steady volume so it's hard to hear what you're saying

The whole point of covering the alternator is to make sure it doesn’t get wet! I hope you dried it with air after if that’s the case
Great video! I have the exact same car. While I do keep under the bonnet as clean as possible i haven't done it this way but will now.
Thank you.

Very thorough explanation, I’ve contemplated taking my 2008 s5 to a detailer, now I’ll follow this and do it myself. Thank you for posting!
Really good vid bro. I’ll be doing same process but first I need to get my headlights behind cap because I changed to LEDs high low beams my A6
good looking guy !pretty awesome work!

Yes, PERL diluted at 1:10 for a natural look 👍🏼
Great video. Thanks mate. Cheers

Very cool video! But knowing me, I’d probably mess something up in my car. Lol 😂
Modern engine bays are quite resilient. Just stay away from exposed wires and the alternator!
@@HarpersCarDetailing Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind and reference this video if I ever decide to clean my engine bay!!

Hi Hanna,
I’m afraid without looking at the engine I wouldn’t be able to describe it to you.
Have you had a look on the internet to double check?
where's the alternator? at the bottom of the engine? do you cover that?
Probably half way down bolted to the engine. Very important to cover 👍🏼
Do you have to remove the bottom engine catch pan? sort of the part at the bottom of the engine that acts like a skid plate?
No not at all 👍🏼
I Imagine there will be some form of drainage in the bottom as well
@@HarpersCarDetailing ok cool! What about the alternator? I have an A4 B8.5 so the alternator is sort of visible under the right side
Yeah I would definitely avoid spraying on the alternator.
You could use a plastic bag to wrap around it 👍🏼
What kinda products are you using to clean up the engine bay?
Bilt Hamber Surfex 👍🏼
Covering electrical components with tinfoil,a conductor of electricity?
It’s perfectly safe on modern engine bay plugs, I just wouldn’t advise obviously putting it no where near the battery terminal.
Or unplug the battery if you are wanting to be double safe
Is it safe to use a degreaser under a carbon fiber bonnet? (SVR)
Yea absolutely 👍🏼
Just avoid sensitive areas such as exposed wires, air intakes and the battery
@@HarpersCarDetailing but also on the exposed carbon fiber? Thanks
@paulquadriom the carbon fibre is clear coated anyway so and normal cleaner that you use on the car would be safe
@@HarpersCarDetailing Thanks 👍😁
What are the electrical components that you covered?
I’m honestly not to sure of the names of the components.
Maybe battery components, ECU, air intake, ignition wires etc
Does the car need to be switched off? I have an Audi s3 and the engine bay is filthy
Yes definitely. I’d never do the engine with it on 👍🏼
Be careful of electrical points etc
Car detailer: "how rusty you want to become your Cars engine bay?"
Customer: "yes"
That doesn’t make sense.
So I assume, every time you drive in the rain then you are just adding rust to your engine…didn’t think so

Have a look at my most recent videos, I have pretty much cut out all the music 👍🏼
@@HarpersCarDetailing Yeah, really on a technical video we don't car about music. Need to hear clearly what is being said. Thanks!
What’s the name of the drying blower?
It’s a metro vac
but covering them with aluminium foil risk of electricity conduction is still a risk i think
If that’s a concern, then go for plastic bags 👍🏼
It is a risk. I would never cover electrical part with aluminum.
@@juhapeltola8232 Quite new in business , but i rather use a non high pressure hose and just rinse around the electrical parts
That hood strut is gonna go soon... Play it safe and reinforce w/ a clamp or replace. Would hate for it to fall while the car is being worked on.
Why do you think it’s going to go? It’s designed to hold the hood up
@@HarpersCarDetailing Happened to me yesterday. 2010 S5. The gas/fluid escapes over time. The car is 12 years old...
👌👌👍
Isn't it dangerous to wash the engine?
Not at all, if done correctly
@@HarpersCarDetailing We understood better if you had pulled closer while washing the engine.
Thanks.
I might re do the video as I have completely changed my style of filming 👍🏼
Y
Just doesn’t seem like a good idea
I think this every time I clean an engine bay
It look clean to me before he cleaned it 🤷🏻♂️
Isn't it bad to use degreaser on engine bay hhhh
