    Electrical circuits
    Fuses
    Metal parts
    Electronic parts
    Power connections
etc. all these will be damped and could get rusty if high pressurised water sprayed on them.
Car manufacturers recommend cleaning engine bays using cleaners and degreasers and thorough wiping

as far as I know, one should never pressure wash an engine bay. there are some connectors and seals that yeah, they're supossed to be waterproof but over time and with temps up and downs they tend to be less sealed. so a garden hose would do the job safer.

I just did this to an ML350 Bluetec, however i removed the engine cover. Now I know it's clean everywhere. I like to use Superclean, i buy the gallon jugs and then dilute it for different applications. For the engine bay no dilution is needed.

Thanks Artur! I’ve detailed a lot of modern engine bays this way and I’ve never had an issue. If there are any exposed electrical parts or wires I do cover them up with a plastic bag, just to be sure. But other than that you should be fine doing it this way! I wouldn’t do this on an older engine, in that case I prefer to use a steamer (also have a video on that)

If you cover the fuse box and alternator, then you’re good to go in most cases. Maybe take out the air filter or battery if you’re nervous and paranoid about it but otherwise it’s all good. The finish you get is insane as it’s rarely done with most cars.

Isn't it better to start an engine before power washing it?

I washed my engine bay with some degreaser a few months ago. I've had 3 warning lights since. I did cover the alternator and disconnected the battery and used a garden hose instead of a pressure washer.

How old is your vehicle? Pressure would be better as the water is going at a higher velocity and pushing dirt off. Using a garden hose is basically drowning the vehicles parts.

@@JJS432 It's 2004. I see, but i thought pressure would force the water into seals and electrical connectors so i didn't want to do that.

@@a1inMil-Experience It was nothing that affected driving safety, fortunately. My dad took the car for maintenance recently and apparently the ABS system fuse had blown which caused the warning lights.

My personal opinion is not to use water horse. Using a soapy water in a spray bottle would be ideal and wipe out all the moisture by wiping out + vacuuming asap.
