Still find the idea of the legendary Queen Bassist, John Deacon, making a guest appearance on the video as the blue wig wearing guitarist, highly comical.
I wish he'd actually played something funky on his bass, which would have made it more like decent hip-hop but less like the early Beatie Boys that they're parodying.
lol same here. I was actually just watching red dwarf and I remembered that Tony Hawks voices the vending machine, and it reminded me of his music career, so I had to check this out when I came across it. there's another music video, "This is the chorus", is pretty good too. I can't find a lot of their projects anywhere unfortunately.
"I'm down and out, and I'm down on my luck, I'm living on my own and dying for a fffff-friend to say..." definitely went over my head when I was nine years old.
I don't know why but I woke up with this in my head this morning after not having heard it since I was a child. I was 7 in '88 and thought this song was the funniest thing in the world after already liking the Beastie Boys. Came to listen to it and holy hell does it hold up. I felt like I was in for a cringe fest but this is so well done.
88 yea, a long time ago but i agree, i also liked this tune in 1988 and i recorded it onto my old Beta tape at the time. VHS we had also, but i recorded a lot of the late 80'S onto the Beta tapes.
Tony Hawk, one of the guys from this, gave a talk at my school today about his work in Moldova, he was telling us the story about that song, we gave him an acoustic guitar and he played it for us!! It made my day!

I had a vague memory of it, searched for it here, watched the video and somehow found that I still know every single word of the song. Brains are weird

Just the thing for when you spot a Morris Minor out on the roads! Nobody ever gets mad at a Morrie because they are such a funny looking Noddy car! Showing my age (59) with that Noddy reference. Finally found this again in 2024 after remembering it from a friends mix tape (yes cassette) I heard back in the day. One of those songs that I from time to time think of but never got to actually search for. Good memories!
Just heard this song for the first time in decades. I used to watch it on Video Hits on CBC in the late '80s, now I could barely make out the words because I'm in a crowded pub. Had to look it up to watch when I get home.
I was 8 when this was released (and as I recall it made it onto one of the Now albums, Now7 or Now11) I did NOT get half the jokes at the time, but the guitar solo - shot - "bit harsh" bit made me howl with laughter, then, and again now, when I DO get the jokes. Thank you - this has just made my night of reminiscing complete.
I still remember this as I use to play it over and over again. It actually holds up fairly well to the "Licence to Ill" Beastie Boys. I had the extended remix version too which was funny for the time!
I haven't seen this video since it was broadcast on CBC's Video Hits here in Canada in the mid-80s...thank you, I've been looking for this video for ages; I noticed there's another one here on RUclips by the same group!!!
