I stumbled into a pile of 45 RPMs of daddy's that were in the dungeon (I was born when that singer's career was long over). I found this curious song that he listened to when he was 16 back in 1981. This Aneka, I learnt, born Mary Sandeman, is a Scottish folk singer briefly turned into pop vocalist. She dropped music in the midst 90s to become a tourist guide in Stirling, Scotland.
00:40 Discovered that song because of Fallout NV's mod "Courier's Radio". Really liked the Japanese-like "rhythm" while she sings. Thanks to video game radio, I'm discovering good old music. GTA also helped
In many countries back then you were supposed to sit quietly during musical performances the same as you would at the cinema or theatre. It wasn't until the late 1980s here in Ukraine that you start to see the crowds go crazy. It's not that they don't like the music, it was just a different social standard the same way you wouldn't clap or make noise in the middle of a movie you like today.
Mary Sandeman (born 20 November 1948), better known by her former stage name Aneka, is a retired Scottish traditional singer. Wunderbar!
I suppose as a tourist guide she became specialized in japanese comitives!(Andrea Lanzoni with Grazia Villani's permission)
Sound quality is gooooooood
00:40 Discovered that song because of Fallout NV's mod "Courier's Radio". Really liked the Japanese-like "rhythm" while she sings. Thanks to video game radio, I'm discovering good old music. GTA also helped
اغنية رائعة وخالدة لاتنسى وتسحر الروح تحياتي من العراق
That crowd really radiates the joy!!!
Tenía 16 años cuando la escuché hoy tengo 58, jajajaja
Oh yes, their really getting in to it, Not!!😂😂
In many countries back then you were supposed to sit quietly during musical performances the same as you would at the cinema or theatre. It wasn't until the late 1980s here in Ukraine that you start to see the crowds go crazy. It's not that they don't like the music, it was just a different social standard the same way you wouldn't clap or make noise in the middle of a movie you like today.
@@Euromantique You shouldn't be clapping and making noise in a cinema...
Yes, that's exactly what I said. @@anonanon7497

Never heard it before today and I love it!
All I can remember is playing Vice City when I was like 6 years old on my PC and listening to this lmao This is so nostalgic.
Mary Sandeman (born 20 November 1948), better known by her former stage name Aneka, is a retired Scottish traditional singer.
In 1981, she reached number one in the UK Singles Chart with her song "Japanese Boy". She was well known for the Oriental image she took on for the song.
Singer of Scottish Gaelic songs
Pamiętan jak zem był mały to leciał ze rana we soboty program o muzyce I Aneka na zawsze została mi we pamięci.
80-te lata to było con nie to co teraz.
Zgadzam się.
Great song! I love it. Brings tears to my eyes.
1982 European tour on a bus was my introduction to this song! Our bus driver Lour introduced us! LOVED it, got the 45 to take home, and my Mom and I would play it incessantly on the stereo once I returned, volume up of course 😀
Cool. I always thought this song was from middle 80s. I was surprised to learn that this amazing hit was made in 1981. It was before its time.
The beat is pretty early 80s tbh, the synthesizers were my really that developed in the early 80s
The syndrum gives it away as late 70s or very early 80s. Syndrums got replaced by Linn drum machines and the Roland TR series from 1981 on
It definitely was not before it's time. This sounds like something from the late 1970s. IDK how anyone could confuse this with a mid 80s song at all lmao.
1979 or 1980
It's four decades and it seems like yesterday.... Can't get the melody out of my head
I'm in love with 80s music
I am too ...
And that's why I dare say this is disco style of the late 70s.
Just released in the 80s
@@PhilStrohhamster Yes, it's a shameless disco cash-in in the last days of old school disco.
Reminds me of my late Aunt

What an interesting song.! A big 80's fan, I'm frustrated this never charted in the USA and never knew of it's existence until recently!
The song was a big thing in Vice City.
@@iche9373 I never played it :(

Me too jaja or even big in japan by alphabille or turning japanese by the vapors
mr roboto for me
let's finally be honest: this is THE BEST song of all time, ever.
No lol, but you do you
to me this looks like white woman dressed up as an asian woman singing an asian themed song because a guy who left her happened to be asian hmmm somthings off
It's so catchy
jebi🦨🕷 tbh honest gives me: " I want to be neenja" vibes lol, so catchy though
I like the song structure; so many options and no over emotional singer ruining the possibilities 🎉
What a song 🎶🔥 reminds me of being a kid- loved it then & still do 👌🏻❤️
He said that he loved me, never would go
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Now I find am sitting here on my own
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Was it something I've said or done
That made him pack his bags up and run?
Could it be another he's found?
It's breaking up the happy home
Mister, can you tell me where my love has gone?
He's a Japanese boy
I woke up one morning, and my love was gone
Oh, my Japanese boy
Ooh, I miss my Japanese boy
People ask about him every day
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Don't know what to tell them, what can I say?
Oh-oh, oh-oh
If only he would write me or call
A word of explanation, that's all
It would stop me climbing the wall
It's breaking up the happy home
Mister, can you tell me where my love has gone?
He's a Japanese boy
I woke up one morning, and my love was gone
Oh, my Japanese boy

2023: People petitioning to cancel Aneka for racism and cultural appropriation.
I'm so glad I grew up in the 80s!

Great song. Part of the legendary GTA: Vice City soundtrack. As far as this video is concerned, wouldn't it make more sense to have her on an elevated stage with the audience dancing instead of just sitting around looking like "would someone invent a smartphone already?"
And they removed from new games :(
It's not in the definitive edition mate it's not in the definitive edition 😭
