My mum used to walk around the house singing “Star Trekking across the universe” for years when I was little, she couldn’t remember the rest of it and only could remember that part. She rewatches all of the series (all the time, it’s the only thing she watches) from start to the latest ones and ended up getting me into Star Trek, I’ve officially watched every series and season from Kirk to the new Picard. Once I finished, the lyrics randomly popped into my head so I gave it a google and found this. I showed it to her (once again her only singing that one part for my whole life, I’m in my early 20’s now) and she literally laughed so hard and was so excited. Watching this 60 something year old woman jumping up from the chair just to sing and dance to this song was amazing 😂

Many many moons ago, I used to do a bit of karaoke, this one song nearly got me banned permanently from my local, the fact every customer was laughing saved me. The guy running the karaoke had his wife slamming his back as he couldn't breathe, the bar staff were slamming the bar with their hands with their heads down in their arms, people were on the floor in stitches, I did the whole song, accents and all, all the way through, it was a one off performance, never to be repeated.

Was watching a retro show on my telly yesterday afternoon and hearing this song just brought back so many fond memories. I had never actually seen the video until yesterday and I thought it was brilliant!
One of my favourite memories of this is a clown trying to sing this with us at a kids birthday party, circa 1998, and absolutely none of us having any idea what the hell he was going on about and who 'Jim' was.
Absolutely brilliant, I remember hearing this for the first time and my parents, my older sister and me were all doubled up laughing, even today it brings a smile.

Close enough, but not quite 40 years. This first hit the UK charts in June 1987, so 37 years ago. I vaguely remember listening to this when it was first released and I quite liked it. Apologies to my mum and brother for having to put up with my music, I don't think they liked it much!
The video was apparently produced in one week so they would have something in time for Top of The Pops, stop motion animation usually takes a lot longer than that!
Yeah, I'm afraid nothing quite beats the black plastic inflatable chair that kills people in a manner that would be super easy to escape from when it comes to bad special effects. Classic Who, everyone! lol

Mark Fryer Live Long And Prosper. R.I.P Leonard Nimoy.
Mark Fryer I just so happened to be celebrating my birthday party when my friend's uncle called and told my friend the news...
TheNobleScoundrel THNX MR SPOCK! MAY THE FORCE BE WIT CHU.
This was my school concert song in for the 1st grade, what a throwback 🖖🏾
This is one of the tunes that you can't watch just once.
Heavily into Star Trek. Spend hours every day playing Fleet Command.
Even I have to admit it's a good laugh!
Star Trek Beyond is looking great
HA
\(〇_o)/
It is great
Danny true that!
Just going to cinema, grab your snacks and drinks, get in your seat, and it's just 120 minutes of this.
can't believe i havent heard this since it first came out! was a big hit in Australia too, even tho Star Trek wasn't one of those things played a lot on tv (here) at the time. By the early 90's i had a job at a small '"art house"cinema and we would show 2 episodes of the original ST tv show (on 16mm celluloid reels) on a Saturday morning and would always get a good solid core crowd each time. I've never forgotten this song, though , but i had forgotten how insane the clips is!
My dads fav song he sung it for weeks and laugh his head off every time
Miss you pops x
I just discovered this again, oh NO THAT MEANS ITS GONNA GET STUCK IN MY HEAD AGAIN ARGH
Imagine it leaveing your head and not just popping into and out of your conscious mind whenever it damn well pleases for 8 years straight.
"It's life Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it............"
R.I.P Leonard Nimoy
Very possibly the greatest song ever written.
I love it - ha ha ha .soòoperb . 1st time ive cn it since it 1st came out .few yrs ago now .I loved nelly the elephant aswell , similar sort of music fun take off . FUNEEEE 😊
Hey - you joke, but there WERE plenty of worse songs around in 1987. That was a black year for music, my God. Jackmixx, Pat 'n' Mick, Mel and Kim, Wet Wet Wet, plus all the early Stock, Aitken & Waterman and shitloads of hair metal.
Yes
Jim Barrows I liked the dr who song ha ha
You're _maybe_ forgetting Pat Boone's "Speedy Gonzales"
Every blood cell in my body has been reduce to chalk. This song has rotted my brain. Yet I cannot stop listening. Dear, god.
Welcome to the horror of the "earworm". Mind you I think that is a good thing🙂
How did I get here....where am I?
+thesanctityoflife Been watching this since it came out. I don't know why, but I have.
Its been with me ever since I was a kid.
Please help me.
thesanctityoflife You're in the deadly part of RUclips, where things constantly mess with your brain. Would you like to transfer back to the normal side of RUclips.
>captain's log
took me a whole day to get that.
I didn't realize it until someone pointed it out here. Lol
@@eblackwell I don't get it still.
He always talks to the log. 😂😂😂😂

Was watching a retro show on my telly yesterday afternoon and hearing this song just brought back so many fond memories. I had never actually seen the video until yesterday and I thought it was brilliant!
The first RUclips video I ever watched over 10 years ago :3
same
Đigital™ Can't believe I'm about to say, do you know what a rotary phone is?. Yep I was born 1981 and that was one of the hits going around.
That. Was terrifying. If this gets stuck in my head I might have to cut it off.
Staarrr trekking across the universe,
boldly going forwards because we can't find reverse.
Its life Jim but not as we know it not as we know it not as we know it its life Jim but not as we know it not as we know it captain.
It's worse than that he's dead Jim dead Jim dead
Ive had it stuck in my head for 20yrs........
It could be worse, and I oughta know...I've had the stoopid song "Little Bunny Foo Foo" stuck in my head for a single day
One of my favourite memories of this is a clown trying to sing this with us at a kids birthday party, circa 1998, and absolutely none of us having any idea what the hell he was going on about and who 'Jim' was.
i had so many family parties where we sung this when i was younger, i loved it :D
lol
Absolutely brilliant, I remember hearing this for the first time and my parents, my older sister and me were all doubled up laughing, even today it brings a smile.
I've listened to this about 3 dozen times today and I don't know why I can't stop..... Send help
Help is on the way, slowly going forward, oh god!

omg I'm gonna be a total weirdo but I love this song. it cracks me up every time I listen to it. it just takes me back in memories of this song.❤this 😂😂😂😂
I love it, but it's really scary at the same time! 😂😂😂
late 80's, early 90's Britain was... a strange and odd place. It damaged us all. In a good way.
I love it too. Surprised by the negative comments.
Toniiee Louise Yeah, it just makes me think of my childhood & how much more simple things were back in the 80s, so I'm terribly fond of it. 💗 😄
Back when Star Trek wasnt aimed at the masses and only a trekkie knew or even cared what a Klingon was.
I Lmfao when i first saw this on its release back in the early 80's. Thirty odd years later i still Lmfao when i see it, specially the spaceship made from pizza and sausages. Whoever created the video is an absolute genius, Lmfao.
I think they were on something TBH. 😅
Not quite the early 80's, 1987 was when this madness was released on an unsuspecting world lol
@@Hodaris_Darlin something very good

@@MeesterTweester Really? Has anyone informed your parents that you were made in a college? ( joking )
I can't believe it'll be 40 years next year since this came out marking the 20th Anniversary of the original Star Trek.
Probably because it's not!
@@RCassinello It came out in 1984, 40 years ago next year, learn to count, idiot.
Close enough, but not quite 40 years. This first hit the UK charts in June 1987, so 37 years ago. I vaguely remember listening to this when it was first released and I quite liked it. Apologies to my mum and brother for having to put up with my music, I don't think they liked it much!
2:27 Spock is wearing green shades in the background lol
Oh yeah he totally is! Never noticed that X-D
Thank you for this knowledge, I appreciate it.
Feck i feel blind I've never noticed that and I've probably watched and listened to this an easy 100+ times 😂
Awesome. I missed thst.
when you come in peace but really you came to shoot to kill.
Sounds like a certain country.....
The GIs buried in Normandy invite you to kindly go fuck yourself.
Kind of like what i wish i could do to the maker of this video. Shoot to kill lol...
A certain country in a nutshell
@@CleverFrenchNameyep merica..
Why is Dr. McCoy singing Uhura's part on the 2nd verse?
Are you transphobic or something?
Is that really your biggest problem with this whole video?
The video was apparently produced in one week so they would have something in time for Top of The Pops, stop motion animation usually takes a lot longer than that!
Seriously, that's your only problem with this vid?? :)
goofed!
Holy smokes folks 😅
I was listening to this from thirty five years ago and this is the first time I am witnessing the video clip 😮 unbelievable 😂
2:55 "Its worse than that...its physics jim" as some one studying physics...i can confirm this
Downright marvelous. I'd forgotten how ridiculous this is, and how hilarious it is. Thanks roopert.
This will be notoriously hard to get out of my head now.
I keep on coming back
It will never go away.. 😂
This was my first dance song at my wedding 🤣🤣
Hmmmm, I wonder how long it will be before yu tell us you are now divorced. Though it will likely be longer than most of my cousins were married 😉😉
you're doing marriage right
You're my hero
Love that
Your spouse is very lucky to have you! lmao
Did you dance faster as the song got faster?
To be fair the special effects budget on this video is still better than early 80's Doctor Who!
or 2005 eccleston doctor who :P
Early 80s Doctor, no.
60s Doctor, yep.
Yeah, I'm afraid nothing quite beats the black plastic inflatable chair that kills people in a manner that would be super easy to escape from when it comes to bad special effects. Classic Who, everyone! lol
I don’t know, that thing in the sea devils episode with Peter Davison looked like it cost 50p
@@RivkahSong Yes classic. The bad effects are part of it's charm. Most Whovians agree.
1st record I ever brought, £1.50 at Woolworth UK.

Ah Woolworths. How I miss it. I was only 7 when it closed down. Then it turned into a Tesco. I still miss it today. :(

I CAN NEVER GET RID OF THIS SONG FROM MY HEAD
god I feel old just knowing this video was uploaded 10 years ago
Enjoy yourself?
Hahaha! I looked up the old WAV file I have of this song and discovered it was 1996 when I found the song on some obscure P2P website back then. Now I feel REALLY old.
early 80's & those days charts were boring so these songs that came out weren't intentionaly for money purposes they were released to show that bands do have a sense of humour & just wanted to spice things up a bit
I bought this on tape back in 1987, but it went missing shortly after and I still suspect one of my parents hid it out of annoyance.
Yeah !scary isnt it . 'Time waits for no man or beast '.(that includes women aswell 😌)
I used to listen to Dr. Demento every week on Sunday nights. Great stuff!
Have loved this song since the 80's and all my knowledge of the show comes from this song.
My dad played this video for us when I was a teen. Have a video of me and one of my sisters singing this while watching this when we were drunk a couple of years ago. That video will never be seen outside of family 😂
I was 4 when this came out and played on tele, loved it then and still love it now.... If you're a Star Trek fan like me and you haven't seen Leonard Nimoy singing 'Bilbo Baggins', go there immediately! Haha
It's a good day when this shows up in the youtube recommended!
When I was 7, my class performed this at our end of year concert. I didn't even know what Star Trek was back then!
I heard this at a kids' disco in the 90s. I had no idea what it was or who it was by, until now when it got recommended. I think it's genius!
No idea why this song just came into my head while I'm at work on my forklift, but here I am....
