A little fun fact iirc: MF DOOM voiced the giraffe, as well as did two songs for it (featured on the Danger Doom album), and one of the songs was a Space Ghost inspired song that played at the end of one of the episodes.
I had birthday sex with the woman who would become my wife and eventually ex wife with this playing in the background at her suggestion (this was five years after the show aired). This show changed my life when I first slept through adult swim while extremely drunk nightly. Eventually, I somehow encountered it again online and was able to reconstruct some blackout drunk lost time and then downloaded all seven episodes from limewire. The action hot dog was the only thing I think I remembered and I never knew what it was or where it came from. I also remember waking for a bathroom trip during the post-show after the pilot.
Perfect Hair Forever was one of the funniest ind fucks Adult Swim has ever put out. certain scenes still pop up in my head, like "catman is gonna EFF you up" or when I think Coiffio keeps making engine noises wiith his mouth and the tree is just freaking the fuck out. Such a gem

Man, I saw your thumbnail and an old synapse in my memory just went off for the first time in 20 years. Great job with this video dude ❤️
found out about this show through an "all adult swim characters MF DOOM has voiced" video, then i found this video trying to search up what it was about, and finally watched the actual show, i love it.
Rewatched the whole show very recently with an old friend who had been deployed overseas for five years. Coming back to this chaotic n deadpan show bringing us both back prehighschool era mentally was something fanastic. Remembering the broad strokes of the show and relaughing at the smaller details. Coiffio and unclegrandfather absolutely slay me cracking up still to this day. Defiantly not a gorgeous looking one, but a fantastic piece of art that has now and forever latched onto my human brain. Thanks. Love it. :)
The hotdog's little catch fraise still calms me during stressful situations. Like I can't help breaking thought and laughing a little. This show really will be loved and missed.
At the most random moments, I will have that stupid little Hot Dog screaming "DO THE LALALALALA" whether that be on the toilet, at 3AM, shopping, in the shower, you get the gist.
Best thing about this show, being as short as it was, by episode 5 they already knew it was coming to an end so they did a whole meta-episode about the frought creation and subsequent cancellation in the form of a musical variety show.
I remember being fascinated and enchanted by PHF. Every time it happened to be on, it felt like a total treat. Super off-the-wall and yet somehow totally understandable in the way it referenced a really specific point in time for anime viewers.
I remember seeing this live after being excited to watch the premier of Squidbillies with my college roommate. We had to keep checking in with each other to make sure we weren't hallucinating or something.
I remember it, and rewatch it a lot, but yeah I had the same experience no one talks about it, no one remembers it. There were a lot of adult swim shows like that but the difference between them and Perfect Hair Forever, I think, is that Perfect Hair Forever is actually really good. It's playing a joke on the audience but that joke goes over really well. Even if you dont think the joke is funny you still have to respect it, even among other Adult Swim shows from that era it's unique.
Perfect Hair Forever and Xavier Renegade Angel were the two [AS] shows I loved the most and were them most hated by all of my friends over the decades.
This show unironically taught me to cut on the heat in my car when the engine is overheating. It was part of one of the episodes and has helped me not destroy my car numerous times.
DUDE YOUR INCREDIBLE. I was literally up at 2am at the prime age of 15 back in 04 watching adult swim and suddenly this show aire. I was accustomed to their normal lineup so naturally I was like "WTF IS THIS". I was hooked immediately. I was up every night to follow each episode. The show really holds a special place in my heart. And all the characters of the show resonate with me personally Thanks for the review. On a side note I'm going out on a whim and say you're not really into underground hip hop? I was in disbelief that you didn't even mention probably the world's most notorious hip hop mc MF DOOM which voiced the giraffe and his song "space hos" featured at the beginning and end of the fourth episode i believe and also hosted a Christmas special on adult swim.
Thanks for the $5! And yeah, was not aware of MF Doom really even though I did recognize him as one of the artists who made credits for the show. I've gotten so many comments saying I should have brought him up so my bad I guess haha. His song and voice for the giraffe were both really great though.
Never seen this show but now that you've brought it to my attention I'm saddened that it's not promoted more, I have a great love for adult animated shows, and it sucks to see that one flew under my radar as unique as this soon, I agree with you about the art style it reminds me of my experience with New Vegas, old graphics but such a great story, such great stories can be told with any level of visual detail, I hope to watch it soon, seems great but I wish there would be more of it, but unfortunately as you said with the guy leaving the network there's little chance even as another April fool's
I loved this show, and have been trying to find it on DVD or something for years. I'm glad some other people remember it, because no one I know in real life seems to, and I know for a fact at least one of my friends was sitting on the couch next to me when I watched it.
I do remember this show, and boy there are several lines from it that live rent free from my head: "Why do I continue to use Cat-Man? I { *EEEEEF* }-ing hate Cat-Man." "My grandson is about to be sucked into that giant tornado... heh heh, awesome." ... to name a couple.
I used to have a VHS tape that I would tape Adult Swim on to watch later, over and over again. I lost it years ago, but I had captured this night on that tape and never recorded over those portions of it. I captured a handful of the April Fool's gags, too, that I always kept portions of. Admitting this makes me feel instantly old.

The animation and artstyle is pretty clearly nodding to the notorious internet fan art and animations from western anime fans of the time. Stuff similar to Nyan Neko Sugar Girls.
I remember seeing a few episodes ANOTHER crudely drawn anime parody awhile back late at night on AS. I can't really remember anything about it besides I think that it was about sports? And the protagonist wore glasses

AS should hire you
Why is it every goddamn time I read your comments, I say it in your voice inside of my head, it’s genuinely scary how accurate it is
Not this fucking guy
PHF is so damn good... I'm glad I got to watch it air when it came out. 12 oz mouse too. Something about them.
I really miss when Adult Swim was just doing whatever the hell it wanted
“I HAVE SEX WITH DOGS! WHAT’S UP WITH THAT!?” Is indelibly burned into my brain.
A little fun fact iirc: MF DOOM voiced the giraffe, as well as did two songs for it (featured on the Danger Doom album), and one of the songs was a Space Ghost inspired song that played at the end of one of the episodes.
And Melt Banana did one of the credits songs as well as Brendon Small, co creator of Metalocalypse (Survive the Wolf!)
That was probably one of his most random appearences, funniest shit
Yeah I'm surprised this guy didn't note that. He's CLEARLY not an hip hop head.
