How to Change a String Trimmer, Weed Eater, Weed Whacker Head

  • Learn how to change a string trimmer head aka weed eater head. This simple job takes as little as 30 seconds. You can use a screwdriver or nail to insert into the hole on the trimmer. The trick to remember is that the head is threaded backwards so it is not "right tighty" on this one. Turn it to the right to loosen then head, and then do the opposite to install a new one. I prefer the speed feed heads on my string trimmers so I change out the oem heads for the trimmer heads that I prefer. Thank you for watching the video.

    Like many others I also want to thank you, like you said it's simple but I really had never done this before. It'll be a big help in the future and hopefully soon. (Having an issue figuring out mine and of course it's not in front of me to be sure.) Hope to learn other little bits here and there to make the care of my equipment easier from you.

    Can't beat a Speed feed when it comes to restring a trimmer. I would suggest adding a little anti-seize to the thread when changing heads.

    My stihl fs 46 is an older one and I didn't know that the treads were the RIGHT way (righty tighty, lefty loosey) and I bought a speed feed head with the REVERSE treads but eventually everything worked out but let's just say it's a different way then what it's supposed to be, I promise it's not duct tape. Anyway see got it and I like it. Thanks for the videos man keep up the good work

    *** Hello, I'm new to grass/weed trimming area and my question can be an elementary level to most people here so pardon me guys. My question is how I can change my blade trimmer to string trimmer. All videos only show how to replace the string trimmer head from old to new one on the pole. But my question is: Can I change my blade trimmer to string trimmer? Do I simply just swap the head one to another? Or Do I have to purchase entirely new unit? Thank you !

    You can also replace just the eyelets where the string runs through. They're made of aluminum and over time will wear a groove the width of the string and prevents the string from feeding out. I forget the cost but much cheaper than a $35 speed head. If you ever run into the problem with on an old head with a single string out and the other sucked into the head constantly. Check the eyelets...

      good point. Sometimes I just replace the outside cap as well. It can get worn out while the rest of the head is still good

    • @jefffaust89
      @jefffaust89 4 года назад +1

      No there not! straight shafts spin counterclockwise and curved shafts spin clockwise. The stock head you get on a new trimmer when you buy it is generally the head your suppose to use. If your wanting to buy a speedfeed head like Jason has they make 3 different heads: A 375 head that comes with adapters for straight shaft trimmers only. The 450 is for straight shaft only as well, but its a much bigger head and holds a couple more feed of line than the 375. The 400 comes with adapters to use on both straight and curved trimmers. So it depends on the style of trimmer you have. If its curved you have to buy the 400 head cause of it being the only kit that offering the adapters for the curved units. I own a stihl straight shaft commercial trimmer and if I had to buy one it would be the 375 just cause it has slots eyelits instead of rounded like on the 400. Cause I like to take the cap of and check the spool before I start to trim to see about how much line i got left on it and that makes it a tad bit easier.

    Circles have not left or right direction. You mean turn it clockwise. For right and left it depends on if you are looking at 6 oclock position or 12 oclock it could mean counter or clockwise.

    • @lawncarelife
      @lawncarelife  Год назад

      It's commonly understood that turning to the left is counterclockwise and turning to the right means clockwise.
