Yes I would agree that in the past some models have had some issues. In my opinion those days are gone but unfortunately not forgotten. I’ve had many cars , trucks, and off-road vehicles. I started watching this at work and thought It’d be a handy video to watch when I’m having trouble sleeping. So I tried it tonight and woke up to The 9 Worst Farts In History so I think it worked.
Have a Disco Sport and have done a few Land Rover off road experiences with it. Such a shame he couldn't drive it properly. It has hill decent control as well. Just push the All Terrain Progress Control button twice. Pick your line carefully so instead of driving around the log on an easier route he drives over in and bottoms it, then moves logs to help the Jeep. They need to go on the relevant manufacturers courses first before producing this rubbish.
The Trailhawk has something similar to automatic hill climb system as well - ie. steady crawl setting - which is hill climb by any other name. Mentioning this because the vid makes it seem like only the Landrover has automatic systems that can be used for Descent AND Climbing. The Trailhawk also has bash plates underneath as standard, so being precious about bellying out really isn't necessary. The lack of steel sills (rocksliders) as standard is shitty tho.
The first Freelander actually developed Hill Descent Control, so when they were on the trails with the other Discoverys and Defenders they didn’t slide into them
Nice work guys. Ignore the haters who say this is boring. It was (mostly) good line-choosing, careful driving (as slow as possible, as fast as necessary) and it showed what the vehicles could do without you guys trying to be heroes. If people want something more exciting, they should watch RUclips videos of yahoos flipping their jeeps down crevasses in Moab. This was one of the more useful videos out there about the Discovery Sport off-road.
Great video. I do have a question though. Our Cherokee trailhawks in the States come with much a more off road Good year Wrangler tire as standard. How come they have a more street(ish) tire across the water?
In Australia you need to buy the off-road tires, it's a rip off tbh. I bought the Cherokee Trailhawk on Donald Trump Made America Great Again pitch, in the end the Jeep Dealership slugged me with a car that I need to spend more money on. Though the car runs smoothly
@AF B that's sad. Ours come with either Firestone or Wrangler Trailmarks which are decent off roading tires. That's sad you have to pay to swap them. They're good little off roaders and I've mucked around with mine and my Renegade Trailhawk quite a bit.
@@JasonRobert Yea so I have shelved my off roading plans atm and will drive till my tires run out. I've driven it like a baby it's only 12000km and I fill 98 high octane. USA has better competition and lemon laws so dealers are under the pump a bit. I saw the Firestone tyres and they look sleek. I originally wanted to buy Jeep Wrangler but the dealer read me and said better to get a Renegade which I felt was stuffy so it was Jeep Cherokee with the budget and not the Grand.
I just traded in a Jeep Cherokee Limited and a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trail-hawk for two 2019 Jeep Trail-hawk Elites. Both came with Firestone Destination tires. The rims are 17 inch which can accommodate 33 inch oversize tires. This vehicle works well on US roads since the Gold the roads where paved with was stolen and all that is left are potholes and bumps.
I think what the Cherokee Trailhawks can do would surprise you. I follow modified Wranglers down modest trails regularly (and i got the vids to prove it)...and open eyes every time! Comparing the two here, the Trailhawk has much better approach/departure angles, as well as it seems a much better traction system as the Landrover had some significant wheelspin that just wouldn't go away in a couple places. (eventually got pushed over by the rears) Tow points are also much better on the Trailhawk, i wouldn't trust those screw in ones to get yanked out of a deep mud bog. (i've seen the Trailhawk hooks hold fine even while TWO 30k lb ropes broke in the recovery effort) I am probly a bit biased as i LOVE my TH and what it can do. Will it out-wheel everything ever...by no means but it gets me done the average trail just fine!
Not sure if this is what the TH comes with in other countries but, I’ve never seen one without Firestone destination AT or other AT tires. But either way easily one is better on road and the other is better off-road as the TH is actually made for that
Yeah, I was a bit confused by that and it's a bit misleading. My Trailhawk came with Firestone Destination A/T tires on it, which are fantastic for capability, ride comfort, durability and appearance standpoints. My first set lasted 75k miles and they still weren't down to the wear bars yet when I replaced them with a new set of the same. Not sure why they are using these all season tires on the Trailhawk for an off-road capability comparison. Seems to handicap the Trailhawk right from the start.
@@silentstormstudios I'm afraid I have no idea - but it's bloody stupid. It MAY have something to do with KL in Australia being classified as a road car - or at least not specifically offroad - so technically making AT tyres incorrect specification - we have all sorts of retarded regulations like that here. Another thing that makes me absolutely nuts is the lighting system we get in Aus models - ie. we do get HID headlights which are fantastic (ours is 2014 - they're LED in later models of course) - BUT - we don't get normal "Park" light selection - instead we have some retarded European setup (hello Jeep - we're AUSTRALIAN - not European!!) - where "Park" just lights up one side or the other according to indicator position - evidently to be able to leave the vehicle roadside with lights illuminated on the side closest to the road. It doesn't illuminate / dim the instrument panel appropriately for low light. That's NOT the Park Light system we're used to here tho - we're used to having the same system you guys in the USA have where "Park" light selection is used for driving in reduced light conditions - ie. instrument and panel lighting set to appropriate levels for reduced light levels, rear (red) park lights are on and fwd park lights (less bright than headlights) are activated. On a cloudy day or at dusk in our KL TH we have to have our full headlights on to stop everything being overbright on the panel - and if we want to pull over and still be able to have low light appropriate panel illumination, again we have to have headlights on! I don't know if it's something programmed or whether it's the Light Switch that controls it all, so I'm looking at actually buying a USA model Trailhawk Light Switch assembly to try it (even if it ends up being upside down in my panel - ie. because of RH drive).
These models might have fairly similar specs and equipment but as others have pointed out the Disco costs a lot more and is lacking proper tow hooks, skid plates, locking rear diff and in both the Jeep and Land Rover 2L turbos, they really need premium fuel for best performance. Premium 98 here in Oz is up to 40 cents a liter more expensive than regular Unleaded - let alone E10. If you need to tow then the turbos don't pull as much as the Jeep's V6. Jeep Australia didn't give the Trailhawk proper off road tires either like the USA gets Firestone A/T tires so there's an extra expense if you want to go to more than a nice grassy camp ground. The related article mentions few of these things.
People always complaining about land rovers reliability. Have you ever owned one or currently own one? All cars are unreliable as my mechanic would say. So I went and grab a RRS sport. Still one of the best sub 200k vehicle ive owned
Aussie Trailhawk comes with bloody crap Yokohama SUV tyres!! - ie. Yokohama are a good brand and the SUV tyres are good SUV tyres but useless for a vehicle like the Trailhawk.
The Cherokee isn't a "soft-roader". It's got a two speed transfer case, skid plates up the wazoo, and, to sum it up, it's "Trail Rated", which means it comes from the factory designed and equipped for heavy duty off roading.
I wouldn't say "heavy duty"...but the "trail rated" badge means they took it down the Rubicon Trail...stock. But i do love what these things can do...and the minds that they blow whilst out in the woods!
So here in Canada and in the USA the Cherokee Trailhawk comes standard with Firestone destination A/Ts which aren’t the best but what is that weak shit you have on that one? Wow

All Terrain Progress Control is for flat or going uphill. You should probably use the Hill Descent Control in the Discovery Sport for downhill, not ATPC in most cases. Odd you drove over the log when there was a clear area to the left side of it. And as for the rear diff lock in the Jeep, you don’t want to be using that on high friction surfaces like rocks - only on low friction surfaces so I would not have locked it on the rocky areas. DS made it easily, just goes to show you don’t need a 4-Low or a rear diff lock except maybe in extreme cases where neither of these vehicles could go anyway.
And you can lease a brand new cherokee fully loaded for about $300. Per month. Pretty good bang for your buck. Doesnt3 matter if its trail rated or not. Similar lease price
The tires on that Jeep are not the same ones that the US version comes with. However, I've raised mine 2" and put 30" ko2s on, also these 2 seem they are a bit too nervous at off road
Weekend Warrior what year u got ?? Just got a 19. Hvnt taken it off road yet. And no blizzards yet. And I noticed also no Firestone destinations either.
Bottom line: Every major tire manufacturer makes all-terrains that will fit the Jeep. The Land Rover will be hard-pressed to find better than an all-season. Slap some Cooper AT3s on that Cherokee and watch it turn into a whole different animal on the trails.

I've been off road in both and while the Landy is better than it should be, the Cherokee Trailhawk with a little bit of lift and a slightly bigger BFG tyre is actually a bit of a weapon. Low range, excellent traction control and a rear diff lock makes it way better than a soft roader. Petrol only in the Trailhawk is a turn off economy wise.

Overall great video. The Jeep managed it better, as would be expected. For this kind of terrain it's probably better to keep a bit more pressure in the tyres, to maximize clearance.
You can lift the KL Cherokee definitely totally safely / harmlessly - and easily - by 1" - and there's evidence you can even go as much as 3" with the std driveshafts (driveshaft articulation is the limit on lift height). There are two methods to achieve lift on the KL: first is lifting the front struts in the front knuckles (lift height ends up a bit more than the physical amount you slip the struts up out of the knuckles) - and lifting the rear by putting spacers under and/or above the rear springs (there's a kit of gear for under $200 to do all that - ie. new front pinch bolts and set of rear spacers + instructions). The second is to simply put raised springs front and rear (Dobinsons is one company that makes bothe springs and shocks for the KL). Lift as high as 3" uses both methods together.
Alejandro Moran Barroso they both have the exact same ZF 9 speed. “Low Range” is just a slightly low ratio first cog. Jeep just happen to market that as low range. The drive lines are very similar also, again Jeep market this as a locking diff but very similar to the Land Rover. Have a look at the article in the video description.
ERWO MEDIA the Cherokee has a true two speed PTU actually. Its the Renegade and the Compass that just lock it into first gear when you put it in “Low”.
The Discovery Sport, uses it's terrain response systems to sort out traction. It does have electronic rear diff lock but that is controlled by the terrain response system. There's and off road display in the infotainment system that if selected shows you what all the wheels are doing and if the diff is locked or not. In normal road diving the car does not use 1st gear that's only used by the auto box in off road situations.

Watch videos by Fearless Trailhawks if you think the Trailhawk isn't capable of difficult terrain.
Neither.
good video lads- but try some mud tests next time
Put identical MTs 7.50 16" on both, and then try the same circuit!
17" wheel is the smallest you can put on the Cherokee to clear the calipers.
Tell LR to put AT tires on their vehicles.
May I know the location of this in NSW?
Is land rover expensive to maintain ?
Da faque is going on with the hood line on the discovery. Woof
And you can lease a brand new cherokee fully loaded for about $300. Per month. Pretty good bang for your buck. Doesnt3 matter if its trail rated or not. Similar lease price
He said the cherokee had plastic running boards but mine has metal skid plates down the side?
Very good video, funny I have the same picnic table cloth/ shirt from TB.
these two turtles put me to sleep!
Why not compare a Land Rover Discovery SE to a Jeep Wrangler?
The tires on that Jeep are not the same ones that the US version comes with. However, I've raised mine 2" and put 30" ko2s on, also these 2 seem they are a bit too nervous at off road
Weekend Warrior what year u got ?? Just got a 19. Hvnt taken it off road yet. And no blizzards yet. And I noticed also no Firestone destinations either.
etnnycmusic I got a 19 Cherokee Trailhawk. Rides through the mountain snow like a dream. 8-10 inches in most spots and had no issues
What the hell happened to the awesome Firestone tires that come with the Trailhawk....
Bottom line: Every major tire manufacturer makes all-terrains that will fit the Jeep. The Land Rover will be hard-pressed to find better than an all-season. Slap some Cooper AT3s on that Cherokee and watch it turn into a whole different animal on the trails.
Great video :) ... Crazy loud music :(

Jeep grand cherokee modelo 2019
Cual escogería usted y porque ?
Paddle shifter on the Cherokee ? Never heard of that
Yeah those aren't available in the North American Cherokee's. Has to be the international model
My God guys our little girls back home in the States would drive circles around you. I own a 2020 Cherokee Trailhawk and I would pass you and waiting for you at one of the Pubs having a 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 🍺 before you got out of the woods. You guys are putting me to sleep zzzzz
Does the Discovery Sport have a low range like the Cherokee does?
No the discovery is a single speed box. The cherokee has also a lockeable rear diff.
TickTocker H yeah, but the Cherokee has all of that, plus real low range, plus the rear locker is user controlled so you can turn it on yourself.
love you jeep
I think they are nose to nose with unreliability too.
Lol, I think jeep takes the cake for unreliability by just a little bit 😂
No that disco sport is actually very reliable, I still have the freelander2 and after 6 years of ownership not a single unreliability issue, have the disco sport now and again fantastic, after 2 years, no issues, we also have the Range Rover sport 2012 model and also great car, those old Land Rover reliability owes are over mate. I have had more issues driving Audi’s and a bmw than the years of these newer land rovers.
Dickhead response.
Rick Leonard the Freelander 2’s we’re very well made. Far more reliable that BMW x Series and Audi Q, series their peer comparisons in premium SUV, not white good brands.
My friend owns a 4x4 garage in Sydney and drives a Freelander as it’s outlived a lot of other brands.
Jason Moyle, those sad dickhead facts hey. They are posted if you want to have a peak. They must be biased.
This video highlights just how good the Wrangler Unlimited really is.
Too bad this isn't testing the Wrangler.
Euro Cherokee's have Paddle Shifters??? Whaaaattttt????
the tires are too deflated for that kind of terrain. jeep wouldn't have strached the left running board
They arent the stock tires that come with it either
They are. And its wrong. Thats not needed for this type of terrain. You need more ground clearance not less.
@@rickymacqueen6690 they ARE the stock tyres supplied on Australian version - they're crap SUV tyres :-(
@@tailfirst that's disappointing
Wouldn’t want either. Rather go old school. Less complicated, less expensive, less to breakdown!!!
sherman4970 curious which old school Soft Roader ? Older X trail or Freelander?
Like a 1996 Ford Bronco ;-)
I got My 2015 Subaru Forester its Loves trails
Jason Jose my mate sold his and really misses it!
Our 2012 loved drinking oil!
Those are not the stock tires that come with a trailhawk.
Actually Jeep decided to make them stock on their export versions. I'm waiting for my MY19 Trailhawk and it will have geolandar street suv tires 😭 I already ordered some Cooper ATs
@@henryjones6957 that's crazy. Shouldn't a trail vehicle come with trail tires lol? Mine came with Firestone AT's
@@rickymacqueen6690 That's totally crazy. The EU Trailhawks even come with no tow hooks in the front. They're allowed here, no pedestrian safety reasons, just to save Jeep some money. ruclips.net/video/w7WpPrg9pBc/видео.html
Those aren’t the tires the Jeep comes with. At least here in the US they come with AT tires but my 2019 doesn’t have the paddle shifters. Jealous of that.
In Australia we get shitty Yokohama SUV road tyres even on the Trailhawk!!
Please,
Watch TFLC !
Tks
Land Rover and Range Rover have become nothing but a status symbol to drive around, as those useless off-road tires and wheels clearly indicate. Jeep for the win!
the freaking number of times these guys said "TRICKY" ..... fuuuucccckkkkkkk
Nobody I know says "I wouldn't try that". You guys need better friends. Too much negativity in your life.
Stoned while 4xing interesting.
i like both two cars but i mostly like jeep
Dejavu to 2015? Or running out of idea?
It's not a car it's a Jeep! both vehicles had terrible tires for off-roading
Bit like watching paint dry
Well... what's stranger, paint drying or wierdos watching it?? I actually agree BTW - just couldn't resist :-)
Well this is very unfair r u serious a trackhawk
Now take them on the beach
Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Come on guys you're driving like a couple of little girls... don't be scared to drive that Trailhawk...it can take it..
I’d take the Jeep
Jeep Cherokee is the better offroader
If it's going offroad, the jeep will win. If it's going to the mall, the land rover will win.
pathetic, either car is more capable
Save your $$ and get the JEEP
At least that new Jeep isn’t scratched to the shit house
Yawn
Battle of the shitboxes
LOL!
Was that jeep designed by Stevie wonder ? He'll it's ugly
Did you learn grammar from hellen keller?
@@ronchrismaniii783 Did you ,its one L in Helen ?
nice
Discovery vs GRAN Cherokee Trailhawk... I smell sort of bias here
Great video of the Discovery Sport and Jeep, well done! Check out the video I created of my Discovery Sport going off road near Los Angeles:
ruclips.net/video/K9fMHgBcI-8/видео.html
Sorry guys can't watch your videos with ridiculous background music.
The cherokee is better in offroafing.
I lol so hard ..... A fairly difficult climb... My driveway is harder than that
Yep - the TH could do any and all of that in Auto mode and just driving - none of the crawling crap!
So slowwwww.......
the ubquitious 'squeaky chipmunk' music. absolutely infantile.
Lol the new suv line ups are junk
Errr, the Land Rover Freelander was superseded by the Evoque, not the Discovery Sport
No, the Evoque came out a few years before the FL2 finished. Disco Sport is definitely the Freelander 2 replacement.
Errr, wrong. Try again
You guys are terrible drivers!
Used to love my Cherokee but this new model is seriously ugly! The front end is like a cross-eyed pig. That said, not keen on the blobby Kardashian butt on the Disco, either.
Sooooo Boring OMG 👎🏾
Imagine if you were a soldier fighting in one of the wars that raged last century, having to drag your buddies remains through the mud and despair of a far flung battlefield, only to be told that in 50 years time your vehicle will form the marketing for these two emasculated machines, to look vaguely butch while ferrying the groceries and offspring. You would be thrilled.
Omg you guy's didn't do anything the jeep can handle so much more
So can the Discovery Sport. Poor drivers and not a very good demonstration.
Agreed! I have a ‘17 Trailhawk and it can do so much more than show!
I just led a group on a much harder trail that included a trailhawk.
