    I got to play this course in 1991, and shot 78 - but it felt like shooting a 68. The greens were even smaller than you see in this video. Prior to that round, I had played Salem, Winchester, Essex County Club and Myopia Hunt Club and never imagined The Country Club could be *that* much better, but it was.
    I blocked my drive on The Himalayas hole, so my ball ended up on the top of the ledgy hill. As I approached my ball , the green complex came into view, and I was almost brought to tears.

      @@chezchezchezchez I wasn't bragging - I mentioned my score and what it felt like shooting simply to convey how difficult the course was. If I shot 90 but it felt like an 80, it'd be no different.

    Fortunate to play this last year. It was one of the best golfing experiences I have ever had. Have been fortunate too play many great courses in America such as national golf links, shinnecock and merion East, but this for me trumped them all. Just the history and the geography of the place is stunning. It should be in the world's top ten. If you ever get the chance too play this gorgeous place it is a must!

    came here because i am reading Sir Walter Hagen's autobiography and his hole by hole account of the final day of the 2013 us open. he was a complete unknown 20 year old who managed to finish T2 in this event 3 strokes behind Vardon, Ray, and Ouimet. in the book he lays the blame on his triple bogey 7 at the 14th so I imagine that was a par 4 at that time. The following year he set everything right at Midlothian.⛳

      100% agree, if guys miss the fairway on that hole, they won’t be able to make it to the upper fairway. I could see that hole playing over par on average for the championship, which would be very unusual for a par 5.

It is IMPOSSIBLE....Any pro that shoots under part here for four rounds deserves a shot at winning the US open -- I think winning score will be only a few under par and the winner will have a hi-light real of great putts and par saves out of sand or deep rough around the greens

    of course it was in the 1990's that the pga started destroying golf course original designs to add 50 yard to every hole so everyone would have to buy $500 novelty drivers...by the 2000's they had succeeded in ruining almost every course on tour.
    the only real answer to the training wheels on pro drivers is to SHORTEN and TIGHTEN courses so that the drivers in the hands of gorillas is not the deciding factor in golf, but opens the competition up to SHOT MAKERS as well as gorillas!
    look at 18 at olympic club...350 yard par 4...i'll bet the pros are always over par when they play it...THAT'S a 'timeless design' of a proper golf hole...NOT simply adding length to reduce competition...that's a CRIMINAL neglect of their responsibility.

    • @tonysmario817
      @tonysmario817 4 месяца назад

      and it's been done across the board...which is how you know it's on purpose.
      they CREATED this limited hangout long-drive contest novelty sport...the result has been the destruction of all the great golf courses they touch.
