Hi John. Looks great. I built something similar last year but used 2x4 for the frame and composite decking for the top. Put the price up but hopefully will last a while. Do you mind me asking where you got the cushions from? I'm in Wicklow and struggled to find anything of the size you have in the video. Hopefully the weather improves so we can actually use them. Thanks.
Lovely set of benches John! I made my own last summer and found the 15 degree recline very nice too! Chances are I’ll rebuild the set this summer or the next because I’m really not happy with how they turned out … thinking a more modular set up would be good! Also I’m required to make them storage boxes as well, and water proof at that, to store the cushions when it’s not in use … so if you feel like doing another bench build, make it one with storage under the seat so I don’t need to do the thinking ;)
I had thought of doing storage for the cushions but it would need to be waterproof like you say, a lager plastic box hidden under the seat would be the best option
John I think you're tape measure might be broken, you said you was going to be making the seat height at 400mm or 39.5 inches 🤔 i think the markings upon the tape maybe printed wrong hahaha, hence why I think you're tape measure is broken 😉 😄. As alway's buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧. P.s it turned out pretty awesome even though you used a wonky tape measure 😉. Oh now my wife has just seen what you made and promptly said " now you have completed your workshop You can make the same thing for our garden" 😞😖😣. Cheers for your uploaded 👍
@@JohnMcGrathManInShed Hahaha your not alone the amount of time's I've told the wife I'm putting the washing machine on with the pots in instead of the dishwasher and visa versa is beyond belief 😅. I thinks it's my age (49) god knows how bad I will be by the time I'm a pensioner !
Nice build John...going to copy this one, just starting a wooden pergola with a glass roof and these would look great beneath it ! and I think it will work out cheaper than that imitation rattan doing the rounds.
I know you’re an electrician, and less is expected from you in terms of social graces, workplace etiquette and all those nuances that separate us from animals, but…. leaving your boots on??? Savagery.
Looks lovely and so much nicer then shop brought ones. Where did you get the cushions from if you don`t mind me asking? Also quick tip for the bottom of the legs, where it will touch the ground, either use some plastic feet spacers so raising the wood off the floor, or use some wood off cut scarfical bits to screw in where they touch the ground, which can be replaced when needed. That should help with the bottom of the legs from rotting due to our Irish weather :). But great job.
John if you don't mind me asking how much did 25 2 x 4 cost with the way timber prices have gone and who do you use to supply? I built a workbench a while back and used build4less but the quality wasn't great for gannons timber . Thanks
Thanks John/Alan I wondered the same myself. Will need to watch again to see how you secured the 15° backs. And I will get myself a battery powered router. July project sorted. Brilliant work.
Awesome job keep up the great work. As a tradesman/journeyman electrician i have often to overcome and adapt, as you never know when the tin bashers will run a length of duct where your conduit has to go. LOL. Good recovery.
Great stuff John. Multiple measurement marks are a curse, done that myself once or twice. Worked out really well though, the back rest angle looks spot on. Nice one !
Great work John. Watched your bird table build and made something in your style, but added a small little detail on the roof. Have to say. the birds love it. It's great sitting out the back garden watching the birds use it.
Hi. I’ve watched this far too many times lol. The 12mm Brad point, so how far in would you go? I don’t think you said. And then would that be a 12mm plug cutter?? Or does it have to be slightly smaller. I take it you didn’t pre-drill for the screws going into these holes. Trying to find the right outdoor screws from such as screwfix. 75mm? There’s too many online. Thanks again!
You only need to drill in about 10mm use a 12mm plug cutter, it should be the same size as the bit you used to drill the hole. I didn't pre drill it's not necessary with the screws I used. Riesser Cutter screws
@@JohnMcGrathManInShed I didn't expect a reply so quick, thanks so much! I'm two frames in lol, rain has stopped play as I don't have your mahoosive shed, I have a rammed full single garage that I can't swing a gerbil for tools. Thanks again!
Well, it’s done! Thanks so much. Didn’t do a back for the ‘foot rest’ I’m just going to use it as an easily movable half cushion foot rest. Coffee table next. Really chuffed with my first ever furniture build. Thanks again.
The adds are unique to every viewer everyone will see different adds depending on their search history. I don't have any say in what adds are shown. But I suppose a gazebo add goes well with the outdoor sofa video.
The fella that never made a mistake never made anything. Super job, John.
Very true Denis
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the luck of the Irish. Nicely sorted out.

I got them from Woodies John, they are pricey but couldn't get them anywhere else
Great job John 👏 that will be a winner at home and on RUclips. Hopefully you get the weather and the time to use it 👍
Cheers Tommy, fingers crossed for the good weather.
Bro,,, that sectional looks amazing.... I'm thinking about Building one for our home...
Thanks Roberto I'm glad you liked it
Great project - I expect it will turn out to be one of your most viewed ever (algorithm notwithstanding).
The 2-pc feature is especially neat.
Thanks Frank, glad you liked the design

Or even build the storage into the table might work also

No worries John and great job. I can see a few Redbreast whiskies been drunk on there mate. 🥃🤣

🤣 had to go back to work lol!
Not convinced of the safety aspects of using the trim router hand held on a wobbly small 4x2 leg end!
Yeah not for amateurs to do for sure. Once you go in only 1 direction and hold it steady flash against working piece you should be safe.
Not the best way to do it I will admit, but a trim router on slow speed with a small bit held away from your body is not too bad.
Looks great where did you get cushions?
The only thing I would change on this is that corner needs to be a table, but that's easy enough to change.
Corner table would be a nice touch

I have them fitted Andrew, I said it in one of the clips but it didn't make the edit, it's a good tip 👍
I sometimes call out the wrong measurements my brain and mouth are not always connected so be sure check everything when you build it.
Looks good, John.
Cheers Thomas

Nice and simple and done at reasonable price. We'll done. Might build something similar for myself.
Looks awesome, functional, and beautifully simple. Can't help but feel inspired to get into the garage!
NICE !!! 👍👍👍👍🍻
Cheers Mark
Made three 3 seater benches last month in this style for my patio, even painted them grey. I used half lap joints though.
Great work, John
Cheers
Thank you - really helpful 😊
You're welcome!
My arse hurts just looking at it.
You might want to stop looking at it so.
Great video John....Thanks....Could you tell me how many 4x2's of the 25 were used for the sofa bench?
I used all 25 in the build plus 3 4x1's
Nice recovery of your mistake

Great to hear
Great project John. I love how that has come together.
Fantastic work great video really enjoyed it, do you have any recommendations brand wise for outdoor wood screws?
He Sean, I use Reisser screws they work great and they have a stainless outdoor screw but I have not had an issue using the standard cutter screws
Another great video & inspiration - love the simple approach makes me feel even I could make it! M Thx John!
Cheers David, glad you liked it
Nice when a mistake works in your favour.Great colour choice and size
It sure is, doesn't often happen that way.
nice project John but I bet your wife was'nt there when you put ya dirty boots up on the cushions lol
🤫
I may get the chop saw out
Go for it
@JohnMcGrathManInShed is it worth upgrading my mitre saw from a parkside to a bosch for more actuate cuts especially angled cuts
Well done John!!!

Ana White? 🧐
Not sure who Ana White is?
It's similar to Ana White's build but this one has a 15° angle on the back rest...which makes it way more comfortable. Nice work John.
