This video was SO helpful! It's really helping me hone in on the control of my vocal cords, something I thought I had absolutely no control over. Thank you!
4:10 had me holding my breath for ten seconds ahaha but this video is amazing i can't wait to learn the 6 components and hopefully brighten up moods with random voices
Thanks so much! How do we incorporate these into our singing where there’s actually words or does it just come naturally once we practiced these techniques?
finally a video where someone talks about what you ACTUALLY do while talking. there are lots of videos that do explain the science behind the voice, but when it comes to practice they just give you some mental model about what you should think of so your body does what you want them to do, well how am I going to troubleshoot with that? you on the other hand actually explained what muscles I use and how I should use them. I'm guessing after some practice controlling the vocal folds properly will feel as natural as controlling your hand movements Thank you, you helped me out alot!
My voice tends to crack a lot on the voice wave, and occasionally on the decompression/compression power slides... Do you have any tips for avoiding this, or just keep practicing? P.S. Thanks for all the helpful videos! I've been learning a lot from them
I think it might be because your running out of breath later in the exercise so try to take deeper breaths or maybe try raising or lowering the pitch of the hum slower These are just guesses, they may not work.
If anyone remembers the voice where only a subtle amount of sound passes through causing the voice to sound strained and distressed. I always found doing that to be a heck of a challenge because it requires the right compression. Compress them too much it interrupts the vocal cord airflow by squeezing the gate way. Don’t compress them enough and it’ll just sound like an average compressed voice. Always hurt my throat trying to do that so I take a break and stop after a few attempts. Certain performances involved with character voices sure strain your throat a lot
Brendan does some of the best exercises and we're glad you're enjoying them @Lucas Prats! Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss any more of his amazing content! -NYSC
Hi Brendan!! Thanks a lot for doing these Component Focus series, you are giving us great value!! Thanks! I need them for my singing most of all! I have a question I just watch your new video about the larynx (Component Focus #2), in which you said that the larynx isn’t a pitch changer, which I totally agree with you, but in Exercise #3 at 7:30 when you show us how to do the exercises with decompressed, compressed and vocal fry sounds I saw you raised your larynx, of course this video was before your new one about the larynx, so I’m assuming that now we should do exercise #3 without raising the larynx, am I right??
If the sore throat persists, make sure to see a doctor or ENT. Brendan is wonderful and these videos are wonderful for normal practice, but with injuries, it is wise to see a professional to help you out @Tumour. -NYSC
When I was doing the third exercise my mom Thought there was a ghost in the house lol! But ur video helps the most! Thank u so much for the video ~ from a 12 year old

Is it possible to break down the exercises like doing a normal pitch and going to a high pitch and back down to a normal pitch till I can control my high pitch. And once I succeed doing high pitch I switch to normal and low pitch. And then combine I both high and low pitch
Your videos are too good...my husband has a peculiar problem that he has involuntary action of the soft palette...whenever he opens his eyes he starts coughing...is there any solution of this problem...the Dr's diagnosis is Laryngeal Dyskinesia....Thanks and Regards ..
Hi @V1950 A1942! We're glad you like the videos! We're sorry to hear of your husband's condition. Unfortunately, this is out of our scope to do virtually, but perhaps your doctor could recommend a treatment program to help him! Best of luck! -NYSC
So I’ve been trying to learn how to manipulate my voice for a while now including vocal cry growls you know all that good stuff but I’ve only been able to inward growl, gutter roll and scream. The second you said I would be able to vocal fry and make that crackling noise I tried and was able to do it for the first time ever I was tripping out like wow dude I did not know the exercises i’m really could give you a wide range to work with like that I honestly thought it was like first simply not straining your voice or damaging it
