  • Of course, if you are singing, your cords are coming together to produce that sound. However, we can be more efficient and intentional in how we make that happen-skillful action as opposed to merely hoping/wishing for the sound we want.

  • @Keviekev115

    That’s why British singers, sing to an extent better or making it easier. Better cord closure naturally by their speech pattern

    • @ericarceneaux
      @ericarceneaux  3 года назад +2

      Perhaps to some extent. But it should be noted that Sam Smith and Adele have both quite publicly struggled with their vocal health in the past. It's important to integrate this concept into what we already know about feeling the body reflexively respond to phonation. It is our body connection that grants us the protection from injury.

    Could the sensation be likened to closing your throat after coughing, moreover, the abrupt ceasing of vocals?
    Thanks for the video Eric. Wishing you well!

    • @ericarceneaux
      @ericarceneaux  3 года назад +1

      The legendary pedagogue Manuel Garcia likened it unto an extremely gentle cough. But, to be clear, there is no need to close the actual throat/pharyngeal space. The actual throat is soft and free; there is just a hint of resistance at the cords themselves. Try speaking "uh-oh", as if you just made a mistake--that's the sensation.

      @@ericarceneaux Thank you for the advice! I like experimenting with sound manipulation; there are so many different variables that can be changed with singing! And as wonderful as totally organic singing is, it's really interesting to mix things up in a scientific kind of way. So tomorrow I'm going to try and make your video the focal point of my 'session' (driving around solitary delivering flowers!).

    after I sing my voice becomes hoarse. I don’t know what to do, I usually don’t do warm ups, but even when I do them, I get a hoarse throat. And then, even when I speak, my voice becomes so hoarse. And so every time I start well but end up with a hoarse voice :(
