  • Exploring and experimenting with different stains as a base for mixol.
For supplies used and links to buy mixol and general finishes gel stains, get the full list at cornholecollective.com/supplies (affiliate links)
Here is the information I communicated about mixol:
Mixols are a Universal Tint. (pigment based, not dyes). Universal meaning they can tint water, solvent and high quality oil based materials. They can be both transparent and opaque. They won’t dry out or harden over time in the bottle. (The metallic colors do have a 3 year shelf life). They are easily dispersed (mixed into) a material, and they don’t sink or settle out (Like mica powders do). Popular materials to tint: epoxy, stain, paint, wax, glue, grain filler, putty, lacquer, poly, plaster, shellac, resin….
    33 colors, 3 metallics
Of the 33 colors, 15 are Oxides
Oxides can tint everything stated above PLUS more complex materials like, silicone, concrete, grout, chalk paint, lime plaster, cement…Oxides are completely fade resistant, UV proof. They are exterior grade colorants. Easily identified by the Red Caps and Oxide in the color name.

Would this work with plasti dip? thinning my own black plasti dip with 1:1 ratio xylene. Would like to add tint to the mixture.

Not even a little bit. But share your experiment results!

Oh ya share your dipping results! I just bought some painters solvent that is a CA compliant xylene replacement i want to test with things.
I know xylene is in reducer 54. Which is an epoxy thinner as far as im aware. Its also really good @ cleaning toasted paintbrushes. Xylene might be the magic ingredient for the paintbrush cleaning!
The mixol should mix right into the xylene, then you could mix in the plasti-dip, if thats what your thinning it with. Should work fine! You might want to run the colored xylene through a fine strainer to catch any loose oxides that might not mix in.

Im on lunch right now, taking a break from using this stuff to color match oak to an existing floor for a custom threshold.
