R.I.P. Bob Bogle. Thanks for the music and the memories. You are truly a pioneer whose sound will never be duplicated again. These guys have been in my life since the 60s and their music is still tight to this very day. THOUSANDS of bands and artists owe their existence to The Ventures.
you right onthat won they lauccned a whole group of guitar players im one they pioneered a effects 3 guitar concept at the start they wee just Don and Bob mostly deuets then formed full band bassand drums u dont need those instument if you tighten up your sound youudo just fine
Thanks for being such an inspiration, Bob. Your music will continue to inspire future generations. Rock and Roll heaven just acquired another one of the best.
This performance was at the grand opening of EMP in Seattle July 2000, I was at this show; The guitar Bob Bogle is playing is a 1991 Aria Ventures Don Wilson model, I bought a used one in Japan in 2008.@john newman, Bob Bogle always played lead on both Perfidia and Walk Don't Run, Nokie played bass initially but later switched to lead and Bob took over bass. When Bob Bogle stepped down in 2005 Bob Spalding came into the group ( he had been doing studio and performances for several years with The Ventures prior also) and plays both bass and lead with either Gerry McGee or Nokie playing most of the lead guitar. The Japan summer tours were Gerry McGee lead and bass and Nokie in the winter tour up until 2010.
Per: www.oldiesmusic.com/news.htm {03-13-2018}... Nokie Edwards, founding member and guitarist (originally bass) with the Ventures died Monday (March 12th, 2018) at the age of 82 from an infection suffered after hip surgery in December... Born in Lahoma, Oklahoma, his family moved to the Pacific Northwest where he played briefly with Buck Owens in Tacoma, Washington in 1958. He joined with Bob Bogle, Don Wilson and Don Babbitt to form the Ventures that same year. The group scored eight top 40 hits from 1960 to 1969, including “Walk- Don’t Run” (#2 in 1960 and #8 in a different version in 1964), “Hawaii Five-O” (#4 in 1969) and “Pefidia” (#15 in 1960). In 1969, Nokie embarked on a solo career, though he returned to the group briefly in 1973 and continued to tour with them on occasion until 2012. He appeared in the TV series 'Deadwood' on HBO in the mid-2000’s and was inducted, along with the Ventures, into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2008...
Just amazing- these guys could trade off on guitar and bass like it was the most natural thing in the world. Fantastic band, I love them. Myabe the best band ever.

@sirpeter1946 The Ventures enjoyed popularity and success in the US/Japan during 1960s. With over 110 million albums sold worldwide, they remain the best selling instrumental rock group of all time. 38 Ventures albums charted in the US, and 6 of 14 chart singles made it into the Top 40, with 3 making it into the Top 10. Of their 38 albums 34 of them occurred in the 1960s, and The Ventures rank as the 6th best pop album performer for that decade, according to "Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Albums".
Bob played lead and Nokie played bass on the 1960 version. Skip Moore played the drums on that recording. Nokie played lead on the 1964 version "Walk, Don't Run '64" and I guess he also did on the 1977 disco version, but I am not sure about that. Gerry McGee played on the 1969 version (back then he spelled his name "Jerry", by the way). There was also a "Walk, Don't Run 2000" recorded in 1999 on which Bob played lead again.
According to oldiesmusic(.)com/news.htm Johnny Smith, who composed "Walk- Don't Run" in 1954, passed away on June 11th, he was one day away from his 91st birthday... On July 18th, 1960 the Ventures version of "Walk - Don't Run" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #2 {for 1 week} and spent 18 weeks on the Top 100... R.I.P. Mr. Smith and also Bob Bogle {Venture's lead guitarist, 1934 - 2009} and Mel Taylor {Venture's drummer, 1933 - 1996}...
By the way, I am not so sure that Nokie plays lead on Walk, Don't Run on the On Stage LP, however he probably do on most of the other tunes. Usually when they are on stage, Bob plays lead on Walk, Don't Run, Perfidia and a few more tunes and Nokie plays lead on all the others. Or Gerry on the summer tours etc.
Actually, the original Ventures were Bob Bogle and Don Wilson. Nokie was a studio player, as was Howie Johnson who was the drummer. When The Ventures began to tour, Nokie and Howie became members. Howie had a serious car accident and left the group. He was replaced by Mel Taylor. As time went on, Nokie and Bob would swap bass and lead duties. Later, Nokie left the group and was replaced by Gerry McGee.
This is a bit complicated, since Gerry seems to be a member of the group while Nokie these days only plays with them as a "guest" on the short winter tours in Japan, and occasionally now and then in other situations.
Larry Hall's answer is not correct; It is a 2000 Aria Ventures Don Wilson model, I have one bought it in Japan. The 91 model is Burgundy, looks totally different. I also have one of those. The 2001 model looks like a cross between a Mosrite and Strat, I have a couple of those too.

esta musica me a acompañado siempre desde los 60s
I think is the best show, thank.
Great to see them out there, isn't it? Kind of reminds me about the way our parents thought about their music, right?
Great old guys!!! They still rock!!!
Fantastic....
Super!!!
Love this!!! Want to go to surf
Ventures you are one soul you will never die.
This is sooooooooooo cool! Bob Bogle still RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!
They would still trade off from time to time while touring ,as well as, in the studio. No big egos, in this great group, just great timeless music!
Perfidia no cualquiera adapta esa gran canción y The ventures son unos grandes.

MARAVILHA !!!
If I were to choose a piece of music to describe the USA of my childhood, it would be Walk Don't Run.
How could you not...

Like the ventures and thanx for the memories but as No1 the Shadows were and always will be #1
Great. Just plain GREAT.
Don't count us "old timers" out. Way to go Ventures! =Stefan=
Cierto!!! Son los número UNO
si absolut eine meiner Lieblingsbands
Bob is playing Walk don't Run because he was the lead player on the original recording.
@chalan55
yes all 3 guitarist often switch
ベンチャーズのライブは毎年行ってます!
@starmedic I found their music, sadly, after the 60s.
In my defense I wasn't born until 75... but I did grow up with their music...
KICK ASS INSTRUMENTALS!!! AY CARAJO!!!
Maravilloso

Never thought Nokie and Bob would switch their instruments back to the way it was in the beginning.
I guess both were equally talented at guitar playing in general.
RIP Leon and Bob .
Bob Bogle on lead and Nokie on bass!? Back to the original format.
Could you tell me the name of the guitar played by Bob Bogle in this video?
really nice. Thanks
"Shadow wanna bes"
Not quite. Nobody outside of the U.K. even knows The Shadows. The Ventures are known worldwide!
Bob Bogle is the lead guitarist in this vid. They still play, in place of Bob Bogle, they have some chap named Bob Spalding.
Spalding became a sub and studio addition to the band in 1980.
Legends!
In the old days didn't Nokie play lead and Bob Bogle play bass? Doesn't matter. The Ventures still rule. We miss Mel. RIP.
They both played bass and lead early on and swapped about.
Does anyone know if the guitar Bob Bogle is play is one of Nokie Edwards' custom designs? (and what happened to the Moserites????)
Who is Bob in this video, can you tell me please? Did this band still plays after Bob's death. I like their music very much.
wow! they are old except of course for the drummer but they are all very good!!
คงจะโลกนี้ไปหมดแล้วกระมัง สุดยอดมาเกิน50ปี นาน
english please?
Thanks for the info. I never heard the 1969 version. Which LP is that on?
Did the lead guitar and bass used to share instruments?. I saw another video where the bass player is playing the lead in Walk Don't Run.
I need a backing track for this. How do I get one?
sorry,i dont know,maybe google?
This is a bit complicated, since Gerry seems to be a member of the group while Nokie these days only plays with them as a "guest" on the short winter tours in Japan, and occasionally now and then in other situations.
Ventures are great but no one can beat the Shadows for music and showmanship
So which guy played the leads on the studio versions? I know that on the Ventures On Stage LP, Nokie is playing lead and Bob is on bass.
What model of guitar is Bob Bogle playing in this video?
Bob always used the vibrato arm not Nokie when he did his songs.
i been told, the drummer used both arms? ;)
Not bad, I inly knoemw of the ventures because of these songs. I prefer the Shadows.
me too, also the Spotniks, but Shadows are my nr 1
@@sirpeter1946 don't know the Spotniks, I'll look them up.
@Tubbyduff
crap is a bit harsh, imho its nr3 after shadows, spotnicks, but their long sucess shows, ppls like them
@Tubbyduff Sorry to disagree, I would say different styles, both great bands.
so many bands were influenced by this band, yet, they never got the public approval they deserved.til maybe now
at least in Japan they still have a huge sucess
What model of guitar is Bob Bogle playing? It looks like a mix between a Fender Jazzmaster and a Stratocaster
Aria Ventures model... this one's from 1991.
+Larry Hall Thanks for the info!
@@GarySanOly So why is Don playing a Jazzmaster?? (and not his namesake?

I'd always thought WDR was Nokie's, and Nokie was the one that brought perfidia into their setlists. Kinda weird watching him play rhythm for them.

yeah, the group is so old that the drummer is the son of the last drummer, lol.
` - very strong `electric` sound - but not as `complicated as what OUR "Hank Marvin" -and his "Shadows" can do - ?! -`
I notice that Bob Bogle look quite sick.I gues the cancer had started affecting him then.
