    Should have been a sister ship of the Titan not a renamed Titan A. The Titan has a legacy registry no need to remove it just as it made it's hero ship debut. Also they should have evoked the Star Trek 4 by them teasing the Enterprise G but then show the Titan A.

      Something that's never addressed, is that when Kirk was demoted to Captain at the end of Star Trek IV, he is probably a Fleet Captain, like Pike was. The rank is below Admiral and above Captain. It probably replaced the rank of Commodore in the TOS movie era of the 2280's and 90's.

      Rank can be a bit of sticky issue. As I recall, in one or two of the books, Kirk had the rank of Commander but was the Captain of a smaller ship before he was made a Captain and given the Enterprise. Lets not Forget Commodore Decker who had command of the USS Constellation. In the Navy, the Captain of Sub's often hold the rank of Commander. Going back to Scotty, he was promoted to the rank of Captain in "The Search For Spock" and wore the Captain insignia in III, IV, V, and VI, VII, and his episode on TNG.

    It struck me as kindof weird that the Titan apparently earned itself a legacy registry, but then they turn around and rename it Enterprise. Like, sure, make the new Enterprise a Neo-Constitution if you want, but why'd they have to go and do the Titan dirty like that?
    If they get any kind of continuation or new series or whatever, it should start with Seven and Rafi pulling into spacedock, and the dock master going "Pretty good shakedown, eh! Great. Now let's change it back to Titan, because the real brand-new, fresh off the line Enterprise G just arrived, and it's right over there."

    • @sergeib1233
      @sergeib1233 Год назад

    • @Anduril74871
      @Anduril74871 Год назад +7

      Nah, I think they should find themselves in a bit of a jam and then Riker pulls up in the Odyssey-class Titan-B.

    • @Peregrine57
      @Peregrine57 Год назад +5

      @@sergeib1233 I've got some thoughts about that. I think it was a production decision. To be clear, I have no idea what happened. This is just my speculation on what might have happened. They wanted it to be Riker's old Titan for story reasons. but they didn't want to use the Luna class for it. The Luna class is a fan design for Pocket Books, and it's fine to have it show up as a background ship, or in a few episodes of Lower Decks. But it can't be the hero ship of an entire season. They pay Doug Drexler and Bill Krause good money for that. They don't pay Sean Tourangeau.
      The Odyssey class is similar. It was a fan design for Star Trek Online, and while it's fine to show up briefly, even be canonized as the Enterprise F, it can't be a hero ship of a series.
      Pocket books and Cryptic probably did their homework with the fan contests, and made sure that the terms of entry covered use within the games and novels, and that may have included the possibility of those designs being used by the studio as well, or at least provided an avenue to arrange for them to be used on screen. The fans are happy, the studio's happy, the licensees are happy, everybody's happy.
      But for it to be the hero ship... now you've got to either compensate the original designers more than they've already gotten, or leave them out in the cold, and face some controversy.
      Consider what happened in our friendly rivalry franchise: Disney, (or some rogue party within) not very long ago had a habit of appropriating Star Wars fan designs scowered from the internet for use in comics and other publications without permission credit, or attribution. These fans probably wouldn't have minded, would likely even have enjoyed seeing their designs show up in Star Wars. They might have even given permission if asked. But they weren't. They just went "yoink".
      So yeah, the whole arrangement might lead to a bizarre situation with the ship designs in-universe, but they probably figured it was better for all involved to go this route.
      Still no reason to do the Titan dirty, though.

    7:19 there’s also another downside to The ship is getting ridiculous in size just going from say the front part of deck 10 to the bridge the bigger the ship the longer that will take and one thing that’s not entertaining is stepping out of the story while members of the crew get from one part of the ship to another. so bringing the side of the ships down again means it allows them to waste less time that could be used better telling the story. in other words it brings the locations on the ship closer together again so they can just concentrate on the plots that takes place in those areas.

  • @DocWolph
    @DocWolph Год назад +6

    The biggest issue with ships getting bigger is just what is all that size being used for. Unfortunately, whether they say so or not, all that added size is NEVER really expounded upon in any given Star Trek series, TV,m Movie, Comics, or novels. This despite more often than not, the whole ship being mapped out, usually in tech manuals, to include a vast array of additional features and functions that are NEVER used or even eluded to more than once, if ever. That the Ent-D actually had a vast flight deck that ate up 2-3 levels level of the Galaxy Saucer and at least 40% of Each level but was never even discussed, is case and point.
    What is the point of making a ship larger if you are NOT going to address and USE that additional size.

      A drain on resources, is relative. But as I said, you have to do something with that added bigness. Large class ships, like the Galaxy and Odyssey, should be the center of their own formations, as the command ship or mother ship.
      You can do a LOT more if you have say a dozen starship, most of them smaller , shorter range vessels, but cheaper and easier to deploy on masse, all attached to command ship. Those smaller ships, which would not have the facilities of the command ship can easily pull longer tours of duty.
      It also works out better than just having the "lone ship against the dark", which is actually NOT something any competent military would do. It also keeps help relatively near by.

    The Naval history geek part of me really likes the idea that Titan got such a dramatic refit. In the interwar period there were a set of Naval treaties(Washington Naval treaty and then the London Naval treaty) that came into play as an attempt to slow down the then arms race of Battleships and cruisers by limiting tonnage and size of guns. As a result a significant number of Aircraft Carriers were in service at the outbreak of WW2 that were actually conversions from Battleships and Battlecruisers because the limits on tonnage for carriers was actually quite lax. This was still Battleships rule the seas era before Tranto and Pearl Harbour showed what carriers were capable of.
    Royal Navy's HMS Furious was a modified Coragious class battlecruiser that was a test hull for 18" mounts as well as other armaments. Then she was pulled in for conversion to an aircraft carrier and technically did operate with one of her 18" mounts in place so most heavily armed aircraft carrier ever? For context btw, the massive guns on Yamato and Musashi were also 18" guns.
    USN had the USS Lexington CV-2 and USS Saratoga CV-3 that were originally being built as 2 of 6 planned Lexington class Battlecruisers to counter the Kongo class in IJN service. They were converted part way through construction. The Yorktown class, which USS Enterprise CV-6 was one of, was the 2nd purpose built and 1st true purpose built Fleet carrier class for USN.
    And the Japanese had IJN Kaga. Converted from a Tosa Class Battleship hull in line with the Washington Naval treaty. Kaga was actually the replacement to Amagi that was the Hull originally to be converted but Amagi was damaged beyond repair in the great Kanto earthquake.
    So this idea of taking existing hulls and putting them through massive refits that convert them into something completely different to fit a new role makes a lot of sense and is nice to see still being suggested as a thing in Trek future.
    Side sad note, USS Enterprise CV-6 was the only Yorktown to survive the war to be dragged off and scrapped in the late 50's because of course you're going to take a ship your enemy nicknamed the "Grey Ghost" and not preserve it. That sort of travisty wasn't unique to USA though. We did the same borderline criminal thing with HMS Warspite and she was a vertran of WW1 battle of Jutland as well as kicked ass through WW2 🤦

Some of the stills I adjusted to make them a bit brighter but there were bits that I just couldn't use as they were in the many periods when the ship was on low power and everything was dark 🤦‍♂️ SNW knows how to light ship interiors. It's weird because how these sets are made they have much less to hide than they did in TNG, and yet they cloak it in darkness. Let us see your well made CNC fabricated sets!

      By this logic, you could argue Enterprise-A should have been changed to Kirk or James. There is something about legacy which needs to be held to. If anything, the other races (namely Klingon and Romulan) would remember to respect the ship with the name Enterprise. There are also a few movie lines where the crew says that the enemy will remember the name "Enterprise".

    okay, then let's throw in a funny little wrench: the Enterprise-D was restored with massive amounts of spare parts (including a whole differend engine section). so is it still the D, or should it get a new designation aswell? let's say: 1701 - D - A (since it is a refit of the D, but E is already taken).

    • @jasonsumma1530
      @jasonsumma1530 Год назад +1

      I think D stayed as it is because the overall design did not change. It is also a bit pointless to rename a ship which basically was mothballed into retirement. If it wasn't for Gordie, it would have been left as a saucer section with several holes.

With that ending they have left themselves with many options to continue with both a new trek series and a final end/transition of THG and Picard. And for sure there will be other Characters I would like to see more of. Enterprise G, hmm Seven will somehow be involved in making that ship famous and a hunch is that the Borg Queen ( Agnes Jurati) somehow will mix in occationally. In fact lots of stories out there still not finished and many not discovered yet. And stop all this timetravelling, it makes solving anything ludicris if someone can just go back and change it as they like. Oh and Data had a child that could not survive, now they can give her that body if they wish. We need new blood mixed in for the next generation of fans.

    There's an ongoing theory that as The Federation Fleets get bigger. Tritanium isn't as plentiful. So unless a ship is worthy of conservation. It gets turned into the next generation of ships. This would explain why designs less than 10 years old are being decommissioned. Technology is expanding so quickly. It outpaces a ships service life.
    Exceptions to this might be the California Class. We are told they're like a toolbox. With secondary abilities we haven't seen yet. So the design doesn't need updating yet.
    ... I've always suspected the reason that it's shaped like a warp sled. Is so it can go around the saucer section of a ship and take it back to Starbase.
