Only thing better than that is a fruit alliteration! Like Chancellor Cherry or King Kiwi heheh. The fact that Nintendo went with a fruit counterpart at all is *chef's kiss*
Here's a hot take for you Arlo: I think what some people are missing is that...this is a Classical Magical Girl Anime game. As in, Pre-Sailor Moon magical girls. The kind of magical girls who would transform into a bunch of cute outfits to help out their friends and families with everyday problems. Because dressing up and playing pretend is fun. The outfits they showed off actually line up with different "types" of magical girls from the past. Swordfighter Peach seems to be a nod to Princess Knight, for example. Detective Peach might be a nod to Milky Holmes. Even the stage play stuff feels like a nod to Princess Tutu. As a anime fan, I'm actually kind of hyped.
Based on your knowledge of older anime, what other costumes would you expect to appear? We were told there'll be "many" more costumes, so I'd assume at least 3 more.
@@amandaslough125 We actually see a symbol for a kunai (a ninja knife like in Naruto) on one of the doors in the trailer, so I would guess there's going to be a Ninja Peach at some point. Maybe as a nod to Jubei-chan the Ninja Girl. There's also a Cowgirl Hat on one of the doors which means we're getting a Cowgirl Peach, probably with either horse-riding or shooting or both. Embarrassingly...I think that kind of blows up my theory, because, as far as I know there is NO Cowgirl/Western themed magical girl anime. So unless this is referencing Wild Guns or Sakura Wars V, I think they're just dressing her up in outfits. But, let's ignore that. I would put MONEY on their being some sort of Star/Outer Space themed costume. As a nod not only to Sailor Moon, but Mario Galaxy and Rosalina. I think a Mermaid Peach is fairly likely. As a nod to Mermaid Melody. Plus, it gives them a excuse for a underwater level. I think a Flower Peach would be pretty likely. Just cherry blossom attacks and growing plants, maybe. Maybe as a nod to stuff like Flower Witch Mary Bell. A Idol or Singer Peach feels pretty likely. As a nod to something like Creamy Mami. Plus, it gives them a excuse to do a rhythm game level. Maybe some sort of Animal Trainer Peach. Where she befriends a bunch of cute little critters. Think like a combination of Jewelpets and Pokemon. Some sort of animal feels likely. A Catgirl Peach as a nod to Tokyo Mew Mew or maybe some other animal. Of course, we already have a Cat power up from 3D World. Maybe a Artist Peach, as a nod to Pastel Yumi. It could be a Scribblenauts or Comix Zone or Chalk Zone inspired level. Something like a Manga Artist power up. Personally, I would REALLY like to see a Mecha Armor Peach. As a nod to Lyrical Nanoha and Symphogear and Mecha Musume/Gundam GIrls in general. I just think it'd look cool, and maybe give us a excuse for a shump/arcade shooter/Ikaruga level. It'd be kind of neat to have a Twin Peach costume, where Peach gets split into two people. As a nod to the original Pretty Cure, plus it would tie into the Double Cherry power up from Mario 3D World. Some sort of Halloween/Witchy Peach would be neat. Just for a spooky Halloween themed level. As a nod to something like Little Witch Academia or Sugar Sugar Rune. Not sure how likely this is with the main villain being a witch herself, though. I'm not sure how likely it is, but a Egyptian Pharoah Peach would be kind of neat for a level. And while it's not a anime, there was a live action magical girl with a Egyptian theme, Mysterious Nile Girl Thutmouse. A Card Master Peach would be kind of neat, but it'd be pretty unlikely. As a nod to Cardcaptor Sakura. It could be a card game/Yu-Gi-Oh inspired level. But, that would be a lot of work for ONE level. We already have Swordfighter, but some sort of Knight Peach would be kind of neat. More as a nod to Magic Knights Rayearth. There has been a trend towards "dark" magical girls, too. In stuff like Madoka Magica, Magical Girl Site, etc. I don't think Nintendo would let this game get THAT dark, but we could see a "Mirror Peach" as a enemy, like Dark Link over in Zelda. And some others that are common in magical girl stuff, but I don't know if Nintendo would do it. Nurses. Police Women. Teachers. Fire Rescue. Librarians. Brides. Jungle Girls. Stuff that might be considered a little too...questionable for various reasons or stuff they might have a hard time making a level out of.
@@michaelestival9875 Yeah I was thinking how this felt like it was almost ingrained with how much Shojo anime and manga tropes they could use. So glad someone who knows their stuff caught on and gave us so many other possibilities they could bring in Showtime. Not to mention if the game sells really well, I can see how they can expand on this and have Grape come back in other forms, like stealing treasures or using books that would give Peach a reason to do more dress up. Also brings in my theory that they are REALLY pushing Peach into appealing more to little girls and want to push her into the doll business similar to Barbie or Disney Princesses. Also why they are bringing back thousand year door. Where the final boss in the Shadow Queen is an evil possessed Peach in a gothic dress. Wouldn't doubt they would push Peach into getting as many outfits to turn into toys. And seeing how they can expand on this some more will be interesting to see.
Hell even early episodes of Sailor Moon that I grew up watching had her getting into magical disguises for that very purpose. You're right in that this does seem to be a very Magical Girl style game, which I am not complaining about.
I really hope each of the chapters have a cute little story. I mean it's a STAGEPLAY. They should probably have a decent plot Like, it doesn't need to be super deep or anything, I just want it to feel like there is a story there, and not just gameplay.
I'd be down for a Zelda themed Story of Seasons game. Which ties into this looking more like a comfy game than something that will pose any sort of challenge. And frankly I'm here for it. What I'd love in a stand-alone Zelda game right now is a retelling of OoT but during Zelda's time in ancient Hyrule. The bones of it are already there in the TotK memories. She finally gets her proper training with Sonia and Rarau and gets Shiekah training with that era's Impa. On the trip to Kokiri Forest The Deku Tree about to change the Forest Children to Koroks entrusts her with Young Link who becomes her squire and he follows her around like the Champions do.
Calling the villain "Wicked Grape" makes sense as a callback to 1950s-1970s Japanese culture. It's the kind of corny, dumb name you'd give a goofy villain in older manga. The swordfighter costume looks like a direct reference to Princess Knight or The Twin Knights by Tezuka. I suspect we'll see similar cultural references in the other levels of the game.
Something i noticed is how the title and logo are done makes me feel that Nintendo really wants to make "Princess Peach : ____" its own series/franschise similar to wario ware and luigis mansion. Incompaison to "Super Princess Peach" which was a spinoff of "Super Mario" in both gameplay and principle, this new game makes the logo much more distinct and her own. Allowing her to have her own adventure with her own recognizable logo to accompany it. makes me excited and not worried about its quality.
My immediate impression is that the game is meant to be a "genre sampler" targeted at children (especially young girls because, well, it's Princess Peach) to familiarize them with a bunch of different kinds of games that Nintendo themselves tend to make. Then, based on the parts of game they liked the most, that will give their parents an informed idea of what kinds of games to buy for their children. Even if it's not a game meant for the older and childless of us, I'm still happy that someone will be able to enjoy a Princess Peach game again.
Excellent take. I like all the costumes and look forward to their abilities but I am not expecting the abilities to be real deep as far as game mechanics. Genre sampler is a good expression
I think this is targeting a similar demographic to something like Kirby’s Epic Yarn or Yoshi’s Crafted World, both very easy and simple games. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Good Feel is developing this as well.
Now that you say it, I really hope it is Good Feel. Wario Land Shake It, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Yoshi's Woolly World are some of my favorite games ever.
Good Feel has been working on a spiritual sequel to the Goemon games, which looks super fun, by the way. And I just recently found out that the studio consider of many ex-Konami employees. Too bad it was just in the Japanese Nintendo Direct, and no word if it's coming to the West.
A father going on a harrowing personal journey to rescue his son from unknown horrors would be the most fitting plot. They can further show and expand on bowser and Jr's relationship, all the while bowser is just wrecking everything and everyone in his path. I think that'd be neat and the most fitting plot for a bowser game
Honestly I'm into the name of the villain. Peach is the only Mario character I can think of named after fruit, so if she's getting her own villain, makes sense to have them have a fruit naming scheme too lol.
I suppose Queen Bean and Prince Peasley from Superstar Saga technically count? Then again, Bean and Peasley are technically a decomposite version of Peach ruling the Beanbean Kingdom, so there’s still some connection to her.
When I was a kid my grandpa took me to gamestop and bought me super princess peach. I got to show him the game and how to play. It’s one of my best memories with him. Man I miss him.
@@robertwolff3580 , It's not a standalone game, but you play as Zelda for about 1/6 of Spirit Tracks. She is also your companion throughout your whole journey so you get a lot of personality and a fun dynamic with Link, so maybe that's a good game to tide you over until then
@@Unithrexthat was my favourite part of ST by far. I struggled with the controls and that stupid, stupid flute but it was fun hanging with Zelda through the game.
Hopefully this is better received than Super Princess Peach and has more thought put behind the story and mechanics as there are some reviewers and RUclipsrs who have called the game out over the years for "reducing Peach's abilities down to sexist tropes like using her emotions." Feminist Frequency did a whole breakdown in one of their (really old) videos and I kind of get why they criticized it the way they did. Edit: I also seem to recall someone labelling the game's mechanics as "Peach finally getting her own game and her abilities basically being built around the sometimes unpredictable emotional state of a woman on her period."
As I got older I got into the mind set of "I'm an Adult and I get to decide what that means" I saw this game and didn't think for kids. I saw this game as a 35 year old man and thought I want to play this. The stereotype of my age will never decide for me.
I feel like this game draws its audience from three specific groups: Princess Peach lovers, young girls/women into the dress up aspect, and every theater kid ever. Say what you will Arlo, this is everything 10-year-old me wanted out of a Princess Peach game the first time around!
I think it'll have enough depth. The Detective Peach section looks like a puzzle-heavy section. Baker Peach I'm 100% will be more than just a baking minigame. I'm pretty sure in that level, she'll be able to toss out the cookies she bakes like bait for the enemies in that section (which are dressed as birds!). It's just like feeding birds bread irl. After the birds latch onto the cookies, she'll probably be able to jump onto the cookie and hold on like we see some of the little npc guys doing. Overall, I think it'll be an easy game but a clever game.
I'm so excited for this. I'm glsd Peach being given another chance to have her own game. All the different costumes and abilities look so cool, and it's great to see Peach as a hero instead of a damsel in distress. I hope it does well.
I like to think that this game is some sort of representation of Peach wanting to do more with her life. Like all of the things she can’t do because she’s so shackled to her royal position and getting kidnapped every week.
@@psyc840 So inserting fanfic lore to a character that even contradicts a mainstream game like Odyssey, where in the post-game she runs around unsupervised no problem, like Knuckles witohut a Master Emerald. No wonder it's a pain to ever touch these characters who for some reason draw that compulsion out of their fans. SOMETHING other than what we get from Luigi or Yoshi, always puts Peach under this microscope and scrutiny.
@@sboinkthelegday3892 In Odyssey they did treat it like a (very small) surprise that she went out on her own. I mean, the fact that she sort of rejected Mario as well as Bowser, too. And I feel like someone expressed surprise or concern that Peach was out holidaying. Obviously, not a major thing in that game at all, for obvious reasons, but the theme is there somewhere iirc. That said, other people being concerned about Peach is not the same as she herself being being concerned about that concern.
Imagine a Rosalina game where you have to manage a "star resort" of some sort, or just the observatory, but it's like a City SkylineXTwo Point Hospital kind of game, where you have to keep your lumas happy and fed and all that
Super Princess Peach has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, but that game always felt like an inside joke within Nintendo that was turned into an actual game for some reason. But I've wanted a Peach game that was actually taken seriously since even before SPP was even first revealed and this feels like the first real crack at that idea. What we've seen of the game looks great, but what I'm most excited about from the footage that no one seems to talk about are those big nosed NPCs that appear to be the theater employees. They don't match any previous species from the mainline platformers, so they're a new race that is generalized enough to be incorporated as Mushroom Kingdom denizens other than Toads! I've so tired of only seeing generic male Toads in background sets in the platformers, which is why I love the female Toads and kid Toads from the Mario RPGs and wish they would be incorporated in the platformers, along with all the other npc races from those games. (another hurrah for TTYD remake!) Nintendo always seems hesitant to fully utilize npc races that don't originate from games they directly made, so this is a rare opportunity that I hope they keep using until they finally decide to feature Doogeys and Ratooeys outside of Paper Mario. My biggest wish for this game is that Daisy will be added as a second playable character. Even if she doesn't fit in the standard story maybe add her as a new game plus option and swap her role with Peach, similar the how Luigi was played in the first Super Mario Galaxy. Just think of the merchandising potential if both of them had costume designs from this game!
I'd love to see a Princess Zelda game as well. A puzzle-adventure game would be a perfect fit for her, especially if the puzzle-solving revolved around using magic rather than items.
Concerns are justified but just remember simplicity is the baseline for pretty much every major Nintendo IP. They always start simple and use different levels and set pieces to introduce new concepts. Then by the end of the game you end up in chaos as the seamlessly blend a bunch of simple concepts and make you feel like a galaxy brain
Maybe it's just me, but I think the direction they are going for with Princess Peach Showtime is probably something similar to the Kirby series. the Kirby games are easy, and I mean easy enough for kids to play without any problems, but while Kirby games may look friendly from the start, looks can be deceiving. I mean take Marx for example or Kirby's older enemy, like Nightmare. Perhaps Peach would pull something off with that?
Also looking at the trailer closely you can see two more shows, one marked with a cowboy hat and one marked with a kunai meaning we'll likely be getting a cowgirl/sheriff Peach and a ninja Peach costumes
This game seems a bit simple for my taste, but I'm really glad they're making it. I have two little cousins who love peach, and seeing them excited for a game always makes me happy.
Cameo is actually pretty cool for Arlo, because well, he's a puppet in the end. With real ppl it might be a bit weird but with a cutesy avatar, that's actually really neat
I don’t think it’ll be super simple. Just looking at the gameplay here it’s looking like there’s puzzle solving, combat combos, reflex tests. They don’t look like the kinds of things you usually see in kid specific games. This is going to be received really well on release.
I'm a huge Peach fan I'm very excited, the idea is really interesting. I haven't seen anyone mention how her game takes place in a "fake/stage play" situation instead of a "real" dangerous problem, I just find it curious, but I bet it's just because she had many costumes in Odyssey and that gave Nintendo the idea for this game.
I can imagine future Smash games adding Showtime moves to Peach’s moveset (but I’m conflicted at the same time cause I like her sleeping final smash), AND I hope this sign we’ll get to see Perry again someday
I’m so damn hyped about this game. I wanna see my girls Pauline peach and Daisy get more love and attention. They’re the OG trio and they all have so much potential for a great side story or spin off. Daisy with her empire consisting of 4 kingdoms. Pauline with her city being New York which populates millions. Peach with her kingdom. I hope Nintendo gives Daisy and Pauline more material to work with. At the very least give Daisy a small cameo in the game. Who else would accompany peach for something as quaint as a theater show. Daisy’s her best friend and we hardly ever see them separately. I mean a Wario and Waluigi spin off before giving Daisy a game is criminal to say!
Nintendo couldn't careless about waluigi and they barely care about Wario either. The only people who think those two are important to mario franchise are the fans.
@@INFERNO95 Wario is iffy. Nintendo seems like they have their days with the character. Sometimes they’ll include him in promotional material and his own game but other times Nintendo ignores the character HARD. They are so inconsistent with Wario and Daisy. At least they’ve been consistent (for now at least) with Daisy. Giving more artwork for a while which led her to being a main character at Super Nintendo World. Which leads to her first mainline console playable appearance this year. It’s been a great year for the character
I saw some speculation online that Nintendo might be angling to take the Princess market away from Disney. And I mean, they put Daisy in a mainline game as a playable character, Peach is getting her own game... If that is true, Maybe this means a Zelda game in the future too
I hope we get a Princess Zelda game as well. Speaking of which, it is a bit funny that everyone in the comments is saying, "a Zelda game" to refer to a game starring Princess Zelda, since in any other context, "a Zelda game", is just a short way of saying, "A _The Legend of Zelda_ game", i.e. a game starring Link.
Definitely don’t want it to just be a short collection of easy mini games. Hopefully we’ll see a little more that expands on different types of settings and level structure.
To expand on the point on making media specifically for children: I think when a company sets out to make some form of media, TV/Film/Videogame, the end product is a lot better when they focus on an end product that is for "all ages" not "just for kids." Look at things like Pixar movies, classic Disney films, or even something like Gravity Falls. These are good stories first and good kids media second; anyone can enjoy these things. But when a company sets out to make something "just for kids" they're more focused on making something appropriate for kids rather than actually making the product good. Like the people making it will look at the finished product and go, "Hey man, do you even like the movie we just made?" "No, I think it's stupid." "Yeah... but it's for kids, so, they'll probably like it." And I'm not a kid anymore, so it doesn't really affect me. I can pick my own media to consume and just not watch Baby Shark, I get it. I just think it's a bad trend to have a lower bar for kids media, just because they aren't old enough to be discerning. You think people would want media for kids to have even more thought and care put into it because of how impressionable they are but oh well... Fortnite, Baby Shark, old man out.
Peach is my fav character. But something about this game feels off and it looks boring to me. Not sure if Im going to buy it. Also if they make a Zelda game, they should call it "The Legend of Link"
Seeing a dodge in Swordfighter's section and a parry in Kung Fu actually made me wonder if that might be too much for kids. Perhaps things will be heavily slowed down when it's time to do them or there's UI missing in the trailer, but kids aren't dodge and parry champs.
im really glad they are FINALLY making another Peach game, I remember when I was really young, my brother and I would imagine what games with the other characters (for me it was ALWAYS the princesses) in the main spotlight could be like, and this makes little me happy :)
This really does feel like GoodFeel's area of expertise, and though we haven't heard who's developing it, it really wouldn't surprise me if they were on this as well after their work with Yoshi and Kirby. I've always felt like they should be the ones that tackle the next iteration of "Pikachu being cute" games, like Pokemon Channel or PokePark before them, they just really know how to nail that "sit back, relax, and play" feeling of simple games.
I never played a Mario game but I might get this one. Swordfighter peach and kungfu peach looks so cool! Also she is great in the movie ^^ I too am hoping that for 60 dollars it´s not going to be too simple and/ or short.
I think nintendo likes to use specific characters for each genre of games. Mario for platformers, Samus for shooters, Star Fox for flying, Wario for micro games, Link for adventure, etc. So to create a game spotlighting a specific character, you have to ensure it wouldn't end up as a game that is more suited for someone else. And they have so many games out there, it becomes harder to do something "new".
The game does look very simple. I can't imagine it'll be very hard. It kinda looks like "go here, do this thing" for the quaint novelty of it. The outfits seem very contextual, not like you can run around in whatever outfit you want.
Im really excited for this! I hope it was given the proper love, id love to have larger segments of each ability! Peach has always been kinda a backwards part of gaming, where shes been here so long and has never been given actual life. Im excited to try it!
I hope they make this game easier and simpler because I think my nieces would really like it. They're really young and they're really bad at video games so they often don't play them. Like even very simple games are hard for them because they rarely play games. Maybe if the game had an easy difficulty, and a hard difficulty that would be perfect
Always is a lot of poo pooing of girls games. Almost automatically discounted. I mean Nintendo games are automatically baby games to the vast majority of gamers in the first place, and then you add some pink and it might as well not even matter to some people. Heaven forbid someone actually enjoy a horse game or ham ham heartbreak. The idea of a game being - gasp - not super difficult or not specifically for them is like an ultimate sin. I get that arlo allows that it's good for some people... but the language used by him - and many other reviewers - is that the possibly of it being easy/not for them is "concerning/worrying/bad". It absolutely shouldn't be. An accessible game marketed towards girls or "girls", something like a dressup game that's more fun and not just a paper doll game would be EXCELLENT for the future of gaming. Broadens the market if nothing else. People are wild with this shit, honestly. There's a few really good video on how great Barbie games do, and they've never got great production values. There's a MARKET for simple girls games that are rarely filled with quality products in the Western market. This looks amazing. If it's simple? Fantastic! Good for little girls! If it's more adult friendly, also great! But it absolutely doesn't have to be. I don't complain every time a first person shooter is released. People are so self absorbed about their own taste in games, istg.
@@dragontears Ham Ham Heartbreak mentioned, hell yeah based Hamtaro lover. Also I think you're 100% correct. My automatic response whenever people complain about something like the Souls games being too hard, and claiming that it's a problem, is to say "well, maybe it's just not for you, and that's okay. Just play something else." Not every game has to be played, completed, and enjoyed by everyone, and the opposite end of the spectrum is true. While I do think it's a bit more natural to make a "baby easy game" appeal to a wider audience than it would an incredibly difficult game, at the end of the day I think it's better for games to focus on appealing to the specific niche or demographic that they are targeting rather than being concerned with catching as many people in their proverbial net as possible.
@@dragontearsAnd why exactly are little girls incapable of enjoying a more complex experience? Little boys don't seem to have a problem. This screams misogyny to me
I understand where your coming from. I don't mind playing hard games. But easy games isn't always an bad thing either as long as the quality of the game is good, doesn't go too overboard with the difficulty and something for you to enjoy.
It seems like every stage or "play" in the game has completely different mechanics. It's almost like they're each their own game. It's like they had a brainstorming session about which game to make for Peach and they liked all the ideas so much that they just shoved them all into one game. Lol.
I think so? In the baseball series she throws with her left but in Smash Bros she tosses turnips with her right. edit: you just sent me into an existential crisis XD. i checked some Mario sports gameplay and she’s right handed in the original Mario Baseball but left handed in the sequel????
One of the things i love about TTYD is the audience interaction during combat. That wont be in this game, but i like the stage idea still :) and the costumes function reminds me of Triforce Heroes but better
Honestly, I'm not worried about this game one bit! Peach is finally getting the new game all Mario fans know she deserves, and doggone it, I am super excited for it! I already know I'm gonna have so much fun with Musketeer and Kung Fu Peach, and I'm just really looking forward to whatever other costumes Peach will get. Hopefully the game isn't too short, mostly because I just want a whole treasure cave's worth of costumes to discover. All in all, I can't wait to play Princess Peach: Showtime!; it's going to be absolutely incredible!
This is something I wish the Sonic franchise would do more of. Of course more games featuring the likes of Waluigi and Daisy on their own adventures would be neat, but we do admittedly get Wario, Yoshi, and DK having their own series. Sonic on the other hand has these characters that could very well get their own games too. Knuckles only got one, which in Japan wasn't even called Knuckles Choatix. Speaking of Chaotix, a detective game starring the trio would be neat and Amy would be neat to have her own game as well. I know Shadow will most likely never get his own game ever again, while understandable, its a shame. Maybe it's perhaps that he is so similar, if not identical in some games, to Sonic that giving him his own side series may be tough, but Nintendo found a way with Luigi, of all Mario characters. Glad Princess Peach is getting another shot and I am digging the setting of this game. Something about taking place on a stage, the lighting, the stage sets is really appealing.
There's also a Game Gear game called Tails Adventure. It's a metroidvania-style game that perfectly fits Tails. It would be cool if that game got a sequel.
Yeah totally with you on this. I sorta get your worries but I have hope it won't be like that. Really to me the thing that stands out is the combat looked surprisingly fun, which is never something I expected to say about a Princess Peach game... Like, the sword and kung-fu sections especially had a very strong Castlevania vibe (at least in how she looks to control) which has me excited. I am slightly worried about the "stage" thing getting in the way of there being actual fun "levels" (rather than one room screens that change every so often - I really don't want to just stay on one screen as stuff comes to me the whole time) but hopefully it's fine. There are certainly ways to keep that aesthetic without compromising gameplay.
I got the Super Princess Peach DS bundle on my 5th birthday, and Princess Peach has been my Mario icon since. I legitimately cried during the livestream, I am so unbelievably excited for this game. Also, I totally agree that if the game is too "kiddy," it'll feel like a blow to the face of missed potential and opportunity. So here's hoping that they make it a similar vibe to Odyssey, and it'll be a nice middle ground :)
Okay, minor nitpick: When the trailer said "The wicked Grape", the usage of "wicked" was just been a descriptor and not part of her actual name. My main piece of evidence is that, on the game's page on Nintendo's site, they don't capitalize the word "wicked".
I just finally want a Zelda game 😭 Hyrule Warriors, Age of Calamity, Smash Bros, Caedence of Hyrule. I play Zelda whenever she is a playable character and finally want her to get her own game.
yeah nintendo needs to get over their stubborness to not make Zelda playable, along with many small things other open world games have been doing for ages, no post end game is so disappointing in botw/totk format 😞
@@robertwolff3580 I was really hoping that Zelda would be playable in TotK and adventure alongside Link throughout the game. I do like what they ended up doing with her character in TotK, but I would've liked if it didn't have to immediately separate Link and Zelda. (Spoilers ahead) Perhaps if they had had Zelda's light dragon form shrink down and accompany Link, but then they'd have to change the master sword's location. I don't know.
I can't wait! I'll be buying it for sure! It even comes out a few days before my Birthday! I didn't even know about this until I saw your video. Thanks for talking about it Arlo!
Another great question is where is a bowser game I think it would be awesome to get a game where you play as bowser especially since we always see small details on how he treats his army like how he is harsh but deep down he loves all his minions and I would love to see a game where you can just demolish a bunch of stuff while being a big fire blowing turtle.
Bowser's Inside Story is the closest we've gotten, and it's not technically a _Bowser game._ He's a co-protagonist, but Mario and Green Stache had top billing and the world couldn't have been saved without them. I want a game that is _about the Koopa Kingdom and nobody else._ Sure, Mario probably has to be in there for there to be _someone to fight,_ but the plot should revolve around and be about Bowser specifically.
I think she's named "Grape" for the same reason Mario's rival is named "Wario": because Japan loves naming conventions. It's no more complex than the fact that her name is a fruit, and one with a divisive flavor.
As much as Wicked Grape is a pretty “meh” name, any character design where they have a giant hat and floating hands is an instant win to me. I just love that aesthetic.
Arlo is a thirty-something year old monster? I'm guessing this might be similar to Kirby and the Forgotten Land. A simple game, yes, but packed with charm and some interesting mechanics. I just hope it isn't too short, though.
Okay I hate to say it but my first impression was “This is nintendos version of ballan wonderworld” Not in a quality sense but in a sense where each ability serves 1 (usually not very impressive) purpose and you just kinda swap through a bunch of em
Can we discuss the level of polish they've put into Peach's design here, even compared to Super Mario Wonder and the Super Mario RPG remake. You can see the seams in her bodice and the sheen to her hair and seeing the individual strands. I'm not worried about the game being too simple. Considering Swordfighter Peach appears to have a diverse moveset, there should plenty of meat here. People have pointed out posters preview plays, and there are dozen or more. There is also a whole basement and shop to spend coins in. There should be plenty to do and it could be a simple to complete but challenging to 100% like many Nintendo games.
I’m actually quite excited for this game. I love Peach, the game/gameplay looks so fun, and the outfits are incredibly CUTE! I’m playing Starview right now. My ranch is based on Lon Lon and my character is Malon.
I'm shocked to see sword fighting and kung fu in a Mario franchise game... (other than Mario & Sonic and the Olympic games of course), and its a Princess Peach game no less! :D
Oh I get it. The villain is a Grape the same way Peach is a Peach.
There are so many more interesting fruits than grapes, though. Wicked Fig!

I do like Wicked Grape. She looks like a female version of Rayman’s Mr. Dark.
@@amandaslough125
We actually see a symbol for a kunai (a ninja knife like in Naruto) on one of the doors in the trailer, so I would guess there's going to be a Ninja Peach at some point.
@@michaelestival9875 Never heard of cutie honey have you?
They should probably have a decent plot

Knowing Nintendo, I wouldn’t count on it :/
Calling the villain "Wicked Grape" makes sense as a callback to 1950s-1970s Japanese culture. It's the kind of corny, dumb name you'd give a goofy villain in older manga. The swordfighter costume looks like a direct reference to Princess Knight or The Twin Knights by Tezuka. I suspect we'll see similar cultural references in the other levels of the game.
I think the name is just Grape, she’s just referred to as wicked since she’s evil and she’s a witch.
So it's essentially the Japanese equivalent of a corny silver-age DC comic? All it needs now is an inexplicable gorilla.

I suppose Queen Bean and Prince Peasley from Superstar Saga technically count? Then again, Bean and Peasley are technically a decomposite version of Peach ruling the Beanbean Kingdom, so there’s still some connection to her.
There's also Plum from Mario Golf.

Imagine a Rosalina game where you have to manage a "star resort" of some sort, or just the observatory, but it's like a City SkylineXTwo Point Hospital kind of game, where you have to keep your lumas happy and fed and all that
Wicked grape is a grape witch because Princess peach is a peach themed princess! The villain also having a fruit theme seems very appropriate
I unironically like Super Princess Peach. I've never replayed it but I remember liking it a lot as a kid when it came out.
I also am stoked for showtime and hope it’s does well so they can give Zelda a game. A puzzle adventure game would be so cool for her😊
I'd love to see a Princess Zelda game as well. A puzzle-adventure game would be a perfect fit for her, especially if the puzzle-solving revolved around using magic rather than items.
I commented the same thing and didn't even see this. I think all our minds/wishes are aligned. A puzzle adventure game would be awesome
We'll call it: "The Legend of Link"
Whenever Arlo talks about anything, you can always expect him to be worried too lol
I really like peach and the game gives me huge minigame collection vibes. I want to be excited but like… I really hope it’s more fleshed out.

Or they wanted to base it off a magical girl anime like cutie honey.
I think the idea is that fake stageplay and real danger are The Same Thing when the grap witch is doing stuff?
Peach's villains are Wicked Grape and The Sour Bunch... There's a "wine drunk" joke in there somewhere, but I'm not clever enough to solve for it...

Ooo. That is a devious thought and I love it.
Definitely don’t want it to just be a short collection of easy mini games. Hopefully we’ll see a little more that expands on different types of settings and level structure.
To expand on the point on making media specifically for children:
I think when a company sets out to make some form of media, TV/Film/Videogame, the end product is a lot better when they focus on an end product that is for "all ages" not "just for kids." Look at things like Pixar movies, classic Disney films, or even something like Gravity Falls. These are good stories first and good kids media second; anyone can enjoy these things.
But when a company sets out to make something "just for kids" they're more focused on making something appropriate for kids rather than actually making the product good.
Like the people making it will look at the finished product and go, "Hey man, do you even like the movie we just made?"
"No, I think it's stupid."
"Yeah... but it's for kids, so, they'll probably like it."
And I'm not a kid anymore, so it doesn't really affect me.
Peach deserves her own series of games.

"New Mario villain?!" Yet can't see the return of Captain Syrup.
I understand your concern, but for now let's just keep up hope for a dope, cute Peach game coming up.
The outfits seem very contextual, not like you can run around in whatever outfit you want.
i would LOVE a game where you play as zelda that leans more into the wisdom aspect. like making it more puzzle based then other games
Somehow my main takeaway from the trailer was that Peach is apparently ambidextrous lol
Why do people keep asking for playable Zelda when he is already the main character of every Zelda game?
How have I never heard of Arlo’s proposal for a Lon Lon Ranch Simulator?! Very good.
This screams misogyny to me
maybe they're really bad at video games because they're young, and should either keep practicing or try again when they're older if they want to?
I understand where your coming from. I don't mind playing hard games. But easy games isn't always an bad thing either as long as the quality of the game is good, doesn't go too overboard with the difficulty and something for you to enjoy.
It seems like every stage or "play" in the game has completely different mechanics. It's almost like they're each their own game. It's like they had a brainstorming session about which game to make for Peach and they liked all the ideas so much that they just shoved them all into one game. Lol.
Something that I've been wondering since the trailer dropped. Has Peach always been ambidextrous?
I think so? In the baseball series she throws with her left but in Smash Bros she tosses turnips with her right.
edit: you just sent me into an existential crisis XD. i checked some Mario sports gameplay and she’s right handed in the original Mario Baseball but left handed in the sequel????
It would make sense if she was. I mean she is a technique character in the sports ganes.
The best thing to come out of this is Swordfighter Peach, she looks absolutely stunning.
One of the things i love about TTYD is the audience interaction during combat. That wont be in this game, but i like the stage idea still :) and the costumes function reminds me of Triforce Heroes but better
I can't. Wait. To see the cosplays from this game.
“I’m a 30-something year old man”…it’s always off putting to get those little reminders that Arlo isn’t actually a sentient puppet
Okay, minor nitpick: When the trailer said "The wicked Grape", the usage of "wicked" was just been a descriptor and not part of her actual name. My main piece of evidence is that, on the game's page on Nintendo's site, they don't capitalize the word "wicked".
I can't help noticing Peach holds her sword left-handed. ... TAKE NOTE OF THIS, LINK!
It feels like NLG is developing this game; it has a Luigi's Mansion 3 feel.
I believe Nintendo is trying to step away from the damsel in distress motif
...Man, a Harvest Moon set in Hyrule *would* be pretty dope, though.
If she sneezes with the magnifying glass, she’ll be Detective Peach-achoo.
I just finally want a Zelda game 😭
Hyrule Warriors, Age of Calamity, Smash Bros, Caedence of Hyrule.
I play Zelda whenever she is a playable character and finally want her to get her own game.
Totk greatly disappointed they had the chance to do it but failed
yeah nintendo needs to get over their stubborness to not make Zelda playable, along with many small things other open world games have been doing for ages, no post end game is so disappointing in botw/totk format 😞
@@jolly_bean Yeah the only time you can play as zelda is in part of Spirit Tracks, so they do have some stubborness. :/
@@robertwolff3580 I was really hoping that Zelda would be playable in TotK and adventure alongside Link throughout the game. I do like what they ended up doing with her character in TotK, but I would've liked if it didn't have to immediately separate Link and Zelda. (Spoilers ahead)
Perhaps if they had had Zelda's light dragon form shrink down and accompany Link, but then they'd have to change the master sword's location.
If Arlo wants a Zelda game, there were two games in which you play as Zelda that launched about thirty years ago on the Philips CD-i.
Arlo is a thirty-something year old monster?
I'm guessing this might be similar to Kirby and the Forgotten Land. A simple game, yes, but packed with charm and some interesting mechanics. I just hope it isn't too short, though.
Okay I hate to say it but my first impression was
“This is nintendos version of ballan wonderworld”
Not in a quality sense but in a sense where each ability serves 1 (usually not very impressive) purpose and you just kinda swap through a bunch of em
Imagine a Ganondorf Game.
If GREAT KING OF EVIL GANONDORF was a video game protagonist
Wouldn't they make a Zelda game first?
*Ganondorf: ¡Baila Suavemente!*
It's a rhythm game in which Ganondorf dances muy suavemente
We got a little taste of it in Hyrule Warriors. Would love to see a whole game revolving around him
@@EMLtheViewerit takes place in a world where Zelda and link don't get reincarnated for some reason so he gets to chill this cycle
"Wicked Grape".
I mean...the off-color jokes write themselves.
I’m actually quite excited for this game. I love Peach, the game/gameplay looks so fun, and the outfits are incredibly CUTE!
I’m playing Starview right now. My ranch is based on Lon Lon and my character is Malon.
Have you seen the concept for Paper Zelda? I'd buy that in a heartbeat too
I'm just disappointed that we couldn't get the return of Toadsworth in this game. :( Miss that old fella.
Just think of all the plushes that will come from this
As Mel Brooks once said:
“Moichandising”
Grape is probably going to be a modern take on Wapeach but we're not ready for that conversation
I'm shocked to see sword fighting and kung fu in a Mario franchise game... (other than Mario & Sonic and the Olympic games of course), and its a Princess Peach game no less! :D
The villain looks like something from NIGHTS into dreams
Wicked Grape sounds like a KoolAid flavor
