protection plans are meant to be extended warranties but with Nintendo/SONY/Xbox games they usually will provide replacements under a year anyways; and stores have a 2-4 weeks warranty which is usually enough of a plan. So the protection plan is just redundant, and ultimately victimizes insecure people usually soccer moms and bad joke dads who don't know any better.

I'm glad this game exists. My daughter doesnt play games, but this one introduced her and trained her in timing, looking for secrets, staying out of LOS of enemies and hitting them from behind, following patterns, button mashing and more
This game is like true beginners tutorial for basic game sense, and I can't believe how well it's working even on a kid that's still learning to read properly.
    I simply don't think it's for "us"
As a result of what Showtime has taught her so far, she was finally able to play Ocarina of Time by herself a little bit, she found the kokiri sword and found enough rupees for the shield all on her own. I think that's pretty special and I'm grateful to Showtime for teaching her
Edit: We are even going to play some Kirby game tomorrow, though I haven't decided which
Edit2: We took turns on crystal shards, it was great

I really think they put a lot of work into Peach's design in this game. Sure, we've seen her and what she looks like in Mario Wonder, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, and even Smash Bros, but it feels like they went the extra mile to make her GLOW in this game. Picture perfect proportions on the face, just the right amount of vibrant color. It's the best she's ever looked in an official game.

To be honest, in a lot of games I have issues maneuvering and getting my character to go where I want when I want. So when I played the Demo and found out the game was pretty easy, my thought process was "Oh, this is something I could feasibly finish!" and then I was able to finish it.
If you're thinking about getting it, try the Demo first because it gives you a good sense of the controls. And if there are certain levels that are too hard because of your tremors, you can skip past them to get to the next boss or unlock new levels.

I am a 26 year old woman and I really love this game. I am actually happy this game was easy as my life is already hard. I only have energy to watch tv most days but I could play this game in the evening while other games really require more of my energy. This is why I play cozy games. I want to feel like I can achieve something without too much challenge. I did not feel like it was aimed at just kids, I think they knew the cozy girl gamers wanted something not too hard. I do enjoy just trying to collect all of the collectables. Also the one hit kill mode is actually challenging.

Exactly this. Both my 12yo daughter and I have been playing this game, and we've both been enjoying it. My husband, while not interested in playing it himself, has been sitting down to watch us play because of the cute story and visual appeal, as well. Getting to the end of a level isn't the challenge, it's in the collecting. I got my full 10 Sparkles on Ninja-1 earlier today, and I restarted the level repeatedly because I missed a timing during the autorun section. My first time through Cowgirl-1 I restarted during the first lasso section becasue I missed freeing one of the Theets who I knew would have given me a Sparkle otherwise. (Swordfighter levels 1 and 3 are the only ones I've managed to fully complete on my first try, which makes sense since they're basically the tutorials of how the levels will go. Though, I'm playing only a few levels at a time each day right now, and I bought the game two days ago, so I'm still on floor 2. Kiddo will be starting floor 4 after school tomorrow.)

13:20 I heavily disagree. Most mario games have the same dull "Hit me 3 times and Im done" approach. Especially in the 2D games, Bosses are not even noteworthy. There are some really cool designs in the 3D mario games, but even those are mostly "Figure it out once, do it 3 times". Paper Mario for example is a different story, but saying that mario bosses are usually so good is an extreme overstatement

I wanted to offer a counterpoint here. I am an adult woman who sucks at video games. But I like to play video games. I think there should be games for people like me. I have seen many adult women who have really enjoyed this game because of its ease. People who normally play other genres have had a fun time with this game. I have not bought the game because I can’t spend the money on it rn, but I really enjoyed the demo and even struggled with parts of it. It kinda hurts my feelings that so many adults dismiss games as being “too easy for adults” when there are adults who enjoy games of all difficulty levels. I think people who suck at video games but love to play them should have more options. I hear this critique about 2D Mario and Pokemon a lot and those are some of my favorite franchises because I can pick them up and play when I can’t play other games cuz they’re too hard. Sure, maybe you could beat Zelda games at 8 years old, but some of us can’t do that as adults without frustration and I just think there should be more options. Hope you guys can appreciate my perspective. Not everyone games like you do. ❤

I really think that gamers tend to forget that! Harder games require a lot of practice and consistent play in order to be good at them, and a lot of people may enjoy video games but just not feel interested in practising the game like they're learning to play a musical instrument or something. I have literally one platformer I can do anything impressive in; I can (very slowly) do the 16 star run of Super Mario 64, which I was dedicated enough to try out because that was my first video game ever as a child so the idea of beating it so quickly when I never could as a child at all was intriguing. But the moment I step off that route I still suck at the rest of the game!
I get the impression that Arlo kind of thinks that a game for girls being easy is demeaning to girls, and he doesn't really understand that girls genuinely don't play video games as much- most of them are so masculine that they're very off-putting to female players. And girls may also just prioritise other hobbies, when a game is very challenging and requires many re-tries at a level in order to succeed. Sure, I could spend 3 hours trying to progress in Zelda, or...I could read a manga, or watch an anime, or pick up a paintbrush. When I hit that frustration point in a game, I don't view it as a challenge to overcome; I get tired of fighting the game and move on to do something else more productive or relaxing.

    • @sophitiaofhyrule
      @sophitiaofhyrule 5 месяцев назад +2

This. I'm really tired of gamers online thinking a game being easy is a bad thing. It might be boring for them, but not everyone is equally skilled at videogames. You shouldn't have to "git gud" to be able to play games. I've seen a concerning amount of gamers be vehemently against accessibility and being aggressively gatekeepy and it sucks (not saying Arlo is like that, I'm just talking in general). Even as someone who is okay at games, sometimes I want to play games to relax. I don't want all games to challenge me or push me beyond my limit.

    • @kendragramley
      @kendragramley 5 месяцев назад +1

@@sophitiaofhyrule yeah, I definitely think arlo IS coming from a place of good faith, but I do think more experienced and skilled gamers tend to forget that there are different kinds of gamers out there. One RUclipsr I watch even made a shirt that was like “easy mode: cuz I like to have FUN when I play games” or something similar. It would be awesome if every single video game had like 17 difficulty levels so everyone could enjoy it their way, but that’s just not feasible. We need easy games. Especially on Nintendo consoles that have such reach to more casual gamers! The “cozy game” trend just kinda proves this to me. Sometimes something just isn’t for you and that’s ok. Sometimes people experience games differently than you due to things you’d never imagine! Like I really hate open world or 3D environment games because I have no sense of direction or space. I have low coordination so I can’t play platformers as well as other gamers do. But dang do I love me a good 2D Mario! I should be able to 100% games that I enjoy because that’s fun for me even if I’m lower skill level.

But I get that a lot of people don't have that issue and enjoy the challenge of having to get through a game with zero or very few hits. Super Princess Peach sort of caters to both sides, imho. Well honestly, I got this game for my 11 year old sisters birthday and she has had a lot of fun with it. The 2 button controls were perfect for her, given that she struggles with games that have 3 or more. I think Princess Peach Showtime was genuinely a fun game! It's an amazing entry point game for kids, especially little girls who might not be encouraged to play games in the first place (like I wasn't). For me particularly it was extreme eye candy, the finale was super hype and the different play styles were well implemented. I had fun! That being said, it is true that this became a "jack of all trades" game, and I'd love to see a sequel with polished gameplay and the amazing visuals we got on this one (and please, better framerates too!)

I really love the "inconsistency" of the bosses because I find the variety really creative and they, with the exeption of one, really balance out the "easiness" of the game.
Which is what I also love about Peach, you can play the whole game with 3 buttons, which not only makes sense, since you have so many different play styles, but I just generally missed that in games lately.
We were playing a mario party game recently, like the one that got remade for the switch, and my biggest complaint for that game is that at every minigame, which is my favourite thing about Mario Party, you have to basically learn a whole new control set to play it. Peach doesn't need that, and I think its better this way.
And about the difficulty thing, I think the difficulty was perfectly fine, and one of the few times where I would even say the "it's for kids" reason is completely justified. I remember struggling at easier games when I was still 8 years old, so I think for a child around this age it's perfectly balanced, and as a young adult I wouldn't say it was that easy either.

This game made me realize something about spinoffs. Imagine if this game wasn't about princess peach, and was a new IP in a new universe with new characters. Same gameplay and everything, but a new IP. Would anyone buy it? Maybe some people, but it would need to be far more impressive.
Lots of AAA companies have stopped making spinoffs of their mainline series. When's the last time you saw a spinoff of a AAA series made by a company not named Nintendo Atlus or Square Enix?
Instead, if anyone in the AAA space wants to try a new idea, they either have to make it a huge game that will impress everyone with graphics and ambition, or they have to go indie and start all over. Spinoffs like this let developers try new ideas without starting from nothing.
When people say they want smaller games with worse graphics, this is what they're asking for. They're not asking for indie games or lower quality products. They just want spinoffs - new ideas in familiar packages. We don't get a lot of those anymore.

Take something like Splatoon, that was a new IP at the time that didn’t have any pre-established expectations, so a lot of people were able to just take it as it was and the game was allowed to shine at doing its own thing.

It helps that the game is $20. The quality of the game depends on who you ask (personally I thought it was a ton of fun, though I mostly stick with XCOM 2 due to having more meat on its bones. For me, I think it's the fact that every costume feels a little underdeveloped
I feel the game would have really benefitted from having either a third normal level for the 10 costumes.
Or better yet, focusing their efforts on 5 costumes with 4 normal levels each.
This way, they could slowly intorduce more mechanics for each costume and could gradually increase the challenge. Then, finally, have the Sparkla rescue level be a test of everything you've learned.
I appreciate that having all 10 offers a variety of gameplay styles, but as Arlo said towards the end of this video, some of them are only fun to play once or twice.
To add to this, because each only gets 2 levels, some are really unevenly spaced out.
For example, [SPOILERS!] all of the Swordfighter levels are handled by the end of floor 2. This includes the Sparkla level as the game forces to do it straight away as part of a cutscene. Meaning you don't get to play as Swordfighter Peach for the rest of the game unless you replay. Similarly, the first Kung-fu level isn't until floor 4, then the second is immediately on the fifth and final floor. [END OF SPOILERS!]
If I were to personally pick and choose 5 costumes. I'd cut; Cowgirl, Pâtisserie (which I loved aesthetically, I'm just not sure how you could stretch it out over 4 levels), Detective, Mermaid, and Kung-fu.
This means they'd be Swordfighter, Ninja, Figure Skater, Dashing Theif, and Mighty left to work with.
You could even bring back the cut 5 as the minigame levels.
TL:DR Having fewer costumes means more effort could have been spent on developing the ones that remain, which could have led to the late game being more complex/challenging.

It’s not even that easy for kids. My 4.5 year old can play games like Sonic 2, Mario Kart etc absolutely fine. He can do sword fighter peach levels. But he doesn’t have the strength to bash the B button for the patisserie sections. I wish they’d just have added a hold “B” option instead.

The main problem I have with how Nintendo is handling their female protagonists is that they don't seem to have any clue how to make their abilities a persona. Who is Link? Sword/shield guy with the triforce power. Who is Mario? Jumping guy who saves the princess. Who is Peach? ...I dunno, I guess put her in different costumes and do random mini games. Who is Zelda? Uhhhh...maybe her power is to copy/paste literally anything? xD
Maybe give them a bit of a distinct ability, eh?! And why no Princess Peach/Daisy game team up like the Super Mario Brothers.

I wish games were sold at a baseline of $60, it’s not worth that. BUT I will say, as a woman who grew up playing my brothers as Peach in SMB2 for NES, I have been having a lot of fun playing this with my daughter who is 4. She was EASILY able to handle the demo so I bought it he full game and I haven’t regretted it. We had a ton of fun decorating cakes. The first few levels she was taking some extra hits so I offered her the heart charm so she could have a few more permanent hearts and ever since then she was easily able to understand the gameplay and mechanics. I had to read everything to her but I did voices and we had a ton of fun. I think I’m probably the games target audience- an adult woman who grew up with Peach, and has now been enjoying the Mario movie and this game with my kid. I’m probably exactly who they wanted this game to reach and I really appreciate the game for what it is. We had a blast playing it. It’s not exactly something I would ever pick up to play in my own time but for family time on cold or rainy days its perfect. My husband NEVER touched Nintendo games growing up, only PS and PC, but when I busted out Super Mario Wonder- my husband, son, 4 year old daughter and myself all had a BLAST playing together. The only one of the newer Mario games I got for my own time was Mario RPG but I haven’t even touched it yet lol. I got it just ust for nostalgias sake I think lol. Anyway, I’m sure I’m the target market for these new games and that’s fine because I’m super happy with the time I’ve spent with my family playing them so far and I’m super hype for Paper Mario TTYD. ❤

Honestly I think you're reading too much into it when you say they made it super easy because its a Peach game or because their target audience was young girls. I think it might just be a Good Feel issue. Because I had similar feelings of the game being 'so easy it just kind of bored me' with Yoshi's Crafted World which was made by the same developer. Kirby's Epic Yarn, also made by Good Feel was also extremely easy from what I've heard (though I haven't played Epic Yarn so I don't have as concrete of an opininion there)
The only Good Feel game that I feel like did have some level of challenge was Yoshi's Wooly World, which even then it was pretty easy, but some of the extra levels got pretty challenging. I don't think they we're deliberately dialing down the difficulty of the game because they think girls can't handle difficulty.

If you never did play it, maybe consider giving Super Princess Peach an actual shot. Setting aside, I remember that gameplay being far more engaging and fun. As far as this game goes, on the one hand it is perfectly allowed to be simple and "for kids". But the demo literally put me to sleep. And I'm not dropping 80 bucks in Canadian money for this. The real downer is I could be interested in playing it, just not at full price. But being a first party game, it'll either never go on sale, or at most be 20 bucks off, and that's still too damn much for me.

Honestly, I prefer Super Princess Peach. As a videogame overall, it felt much better and less... asinine than Showtime. The mood mechanics in Super are not only explained in the story as being the result of a magical curse, but they also affect all characters and not Peach alone, so I never felt it was a mysoginistic jab.
People may disagree, but if I were to summarize their comparison, I would say Super Princess Peach felt more about Peach actually having a platformer adventure, whereas Showtime just felt like it was about Peach being a girl

I made a post somewhere similar to your take on the whole "easy game" discussion. My problem isn't necessarily when a game is too easy, my problem is when a game that's easy like this doesn't have that "difficult to master" element in it. You can have an easy game with depth. It's why Nintendo is still so appealing to me with a good amount of their games, despite a lot of them being on the easier side. Sure, you can say get through Mario 64 for example relatively easily because of all the options to choose from when deciding which star to go for next. But because of the way the movement abilities in that game are, the way that it rewards you picking and choosing a preferred path, there is a high skill ceiling with it if you want there to be. In addition, Nintendo games usually have a solid difficulty curve that steadily increases through out. Combine that with the challenge of learning more advanced movement tricks and what not, and you've done it. You have a game that is an engaging and well crafted experience for adults and kids alike.
Which brings me to this game. Like you, I was really stoked about getting another spin off like this. But yeah, I also just looked at the gameplay (and played the demo) and it just didn't seem like that type of situation here. There didn't appear to be any kind of attack chaining, reward for knowledge on a replay (except maybe those collectables) it just kinda seemed like a mash A simulator. Idk, maybe I judged it early, back to your review.

I think the reason why I enjoyed the peach game alot is because I set my expectations at the right spot I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece or a GOTY, but just a fun light hearted adventure where I can see Peach finally do cool stuff, I do wish there was more to the game a hard mode difficulty after beating it would have been nice and 1 more level for each transformation would have boosted the game much higher in my eyes hopefully the devs either update this game over time of take the criticism of this one into the next Peach game.

Why people think the low difficulty is for children? Maybe it is low because they target people who don't want to frustrate themselves all the time. Edit: IMO that game is not for kids, it is for adults who want something different. The gaming industry is so one dimensional, and somehow it is OK to alienate players who don't seek a challenge, but more like an interactive chill movie kind of game, but God forbid someone makes a game just for them. Deal: Peach gets a difficulty setting when Dark Souls gets an easy mode.

@@kanityreactionsBecause the game wouldn't be fun, it would be a chore to complete a game with no challenge, other aspects can't always save a game if the gameplay is boring. Also making a game exclusively easy is generally seen for kids because you can literally just add an easy mode on a normal game. On the other hand if a game is too hard and doesn't have an easy mode, I can see how it could be unfair, but a lot of people just enjoy challenges, an easy game can hinder its potential.

I had a voucher expiring a couple days after Peach released. My kids enjoyed the demo. After spending way too long analyzing what other games I could get with the voucher, I decided to go with Peach because it hopefully will be a more approachable game for my kids to get into.
So far my son (8) has been more into it than my daughter (5). She got really frustrated by the second level of the demo because she couldn’t tap the button fast enough to pass the cake making mini-game.
