    Protip: if you need to remove laser cannons to free up CPU but want to still have okay shield stripping ability, consider EMP cruise turrets in favor of plasma or laser, as they do a LOT more shield damage per unit of CPU cost. The ammo is expensive though.

    Ah Spanj the Jeremy Clarkson of spaceships, this definitely gave me top gear vibes lol. Very informative and witty sarcasm, 4 out of 5 stars. That's only because we didn't get to see stuff get blown up though :) personally I'd replace sum layers of the core blocks of the ship with hardened steel to reduce weight a bit as if they get in that far ya probably done for anyway and being able to move and manuver is kinda more important than just taking the hits all the time.

    Great walkthrough for the conversion process!
    To note: Aux cores are 330k cpu again with yesterdays public test version of RE. Also, if you do use Colonists Bolters as decoys, be aware that you will need to keep a stockpile of those if you plan to use a repair block for ship repairs. You do need to add the built weapon to the repair platform if it gets blown off - which a decoy turret probably will.

    I've only ever played vanilla Empyrion but a buddy and I are going to give RE a try once it's out and has had a chance to work out a few of the kinks. Hopefully there will be some updated ship designs in the workshop by then too. I'm middling fair at tweaking ship designs in vanilla but this video is a great help to learning what that will take in RE. Thank you.

    RFE has been my go to scenario for a while. It could be extremely challenging to get beyond mid game as a solo player. My last play through I finally solo'd the dyson sphere for the first time, the grind has had me take a 6 month break since. Getting quantum/aux cores, along with so many other things, was pretty brutal for a solo player. It completely burned me out on Empyrion for the first time in 5 years.
    Now it looks like the grind and difficulty have gone to the point of not looking very fun. On top of that, all my designs are hosed or need major rebuilds? My initial reaction, especially to the shield/cpu changes are to say F that, going back to PE. There's challenging and there's being kicked in the pins.
    I'll hold my breath and give RFE 1.7 a chance, but it really looks like solo players are SoL on this version.

      I also havent played EGS since 1.5 not because of lack of enjoyment, but because of burnout. I'll give this one a go too, but I am expecting another long burnout after. Crew is clearly under powered and nearly worthless in the overall system. I ran some numbers and it takes 50 crewmen to offset the CPU of a single mining laser or primary weapon mount. 5 crewmen per gatling turret adds up quickly and barely scratches the CPU requirements of a large CV even with "Automation". Their value needs to be much Higher in my opinion.

    • @JimBloggins1
      @JimBloggins1 2 года назад +11

      Ii started a thread last year or before in the official forums about utilizing crew in better ways. Engineers for shield/weapon systems, doctor could auto craft med consumables and/or heal you, drive engineers that could squeeze extra thrust out or reduce power usage etc. Some loudmouth said it was a dumb idea and it fell flat as a topic. I still think it would've changed the game for the better drastically.

    • @GSMonroeFolkMusic
      @GSMonroeFolkMusic 2 года назад +2

      @@JimBloggins1 I'm all for that. As it is, it is a step in the right direction, but the CPU numbers are not balanced at all. If you are going to have a crew that 1) you have to hire at market value, 2) Must replace if lost in combat, and 3) provide Crew Quarters for. Then, the numbers should balance to the CPU mathematically. The result would be far more believable ship designs and fewer of the "Gun Wart" massively overgunned CVs.

      @JimBloggins1 2 года назад +1

      @@GSMonroeFolkMusic yeah exactly; adds actual customization beyond simple geometrical/device placement and would cause far more in accountability when designing boats. As well I think it would add so many layers of system design that it would become endless in possibility, plus open the door for more change in additions to the game design. Maybe off its success someone spots another area where a similar change could be made, resulting in another successful mechanic emerging. I find that this game, after a few thousand hours, has so much more potential than is being currently realized by the development team. I understand that the complexity rises when new portions of a database are implemented but I'm reminded of when NASA said rockets couldn't be reclaimed and then a dude came along and just did it. I think the game itself could grow much longer legs if the development team were open to more discussion on theoretical improvements, beyond art assets and water ripples that insinuate but don't deliver water that actually flows.

      @@Spanj I understand what you are saying. There are abundant ways to add content and immersion to games without over complication. I actually love the added story lines, side missions and extended trade that has been added to Reforged. The biggest issue for me is how it is being balanced out. I've been on the Test Server for weeks now (Dragonmede), and as much as I try, I have been unable to leave the Starter World because of Balance issues and many of the resources that I admittedly have become dependent on in Vanilla and PE. The massive market devaluation of weaponry that I use to sell to trade for things like EVA Boosts have pretty much left me behind the curve. The ships I come to rely on no longer function effectively, and I do not have hours to devote to Creative Shipbuilding as I'm a Self Employed Businessman with only a few hours in the evening to relax with Gaming. Sure, add factions, add Storylines, add new POI's and Puzzles to solve. But please do not make things so complicated that it becomes a second full time job.

      The spiny spiny thing was an exploit of how the game handled AI attempts to hit your ship. Not dodging, just exploiting a weakness in the AI targeting. I believe this has been somewhat nerfed. It's still possible to make a spiny spiny ship, but it won't work as well as before. And mostly standard shields and weapons. As it is with the Meta in the RE game it's now no longer a viable ship to be a small FreeLancer type of ship in RE.
    Now if the NPC had to play with the same restrictions...... then it would really be a balanced game lol

    • @pantheis
      @pantheis 2 года назад

      It's absolutely possible to have a small freelancer style ship, but it's all give and take. You can't do a one ship does everything build, or you won't be very good at any of it. Shield values, AND damage to the shields, have all changed. Different weapons are better against different things, and there's a purpose for all of them.

    • @dirtybird2202

      @@pantheis This ship is already bare bones and I used it in the older scenario of Reforged Eden. There is no room to add more to the ship, without either total disarm and removal of the one storage stack it has of 320 K. It has the most basic shield that's the vanilla shield. Have upgraded it with all the General CPU tech to get it compliant.
      I will have to just wait till RE comes out to see for sure what i would have to change, but pretty sure now everything is going to be only suitable to the beginning system.
      On the other hand this will force me to have to do a complete redesign of everything. And the Devs of the game have already laid out a road map of the game with a whole slew of new updates and some new tech and NPC changes as well as our char or toon changes. Crouch was just the start of many new things they are redoing and upgrading the game for this year alone.
      The CV is only one item that will have to be totally refited, I have some bases a repair platform HV's SV's. This will take me months. I already have months of work invested. Guess in the least I will have to restrict all these to The Vanilla game. Have some basic designed vehicles and a Colony ship design that aren't in the game yet though I expect will take me a long time to do. I don't use symmetry and i build in survival mode of the game. I get to many problems with symmetry so I build everything from scratch and block by block.

Firstly...25 blocks EACH gives you the best which everyone will need. Highest recharge and capacity. Secondly, it throws cpu off a bit but that can be compensated, just drop some guns etc...but the main problem is to builds. without those devices, shields are bad. useless. where are you going to find the room for 50 2x1x1 devices suddenly? I feel the same thing could have been achieved without such a drastic change being required to builds. those little small nimble light assault tanks, now are useless, because they have zip for shields and no room to add 50 devices to give them proper shields. anything that fundamentally changes or impacts thousands of builds should be carefully considered. how would i revamp shields given the hard coded stuff? maybe along the same lines, but rebalance the figures, so you don't need 25/25. maybe 10/10. so make the figures higher per shield capacitor/recharger. and make the block 1 square in size like a container. that way you get the shield changes in game, the cpu stats remain the same, but the PHYSICAL space required then doesn't break your builds. why 25 of each? dont know. I mean like the numbers for the boosting could be doubled. instead of 6000 per unit. make it 12k per unit with 10 max. instead of -2000 for the recharge dude...maybe -4000 or -5000. to keep the numbers the same while requiring less of the device.

    how to get ready? easy; don't play it, it's dumb and you should feel dumb.
