When you fly off water watch out for one of the floats digging in on take off & landing. I had one for years & fixed the problem by changing the angle of the floats so that the rear of the floats hit the water first. Love the show, keep up the great work
Have one and needed to have counter rotating props to avoid the Yaw,. Went into the Port ecs and reversed it and used a couple of spare B-17 props and fly's like a dream now. Great off the Grass.
thank you guys for Catalina, just mention about this plane few days ago and here you go new video with my favorite plane and my favorite people. Great job Guys. Alex, Josh and Bob Thanks !!!
Finally! I have waited for this plane since 2014! Thank you! Oh btw, Alex said this plane was slow? Try a 4 cell! I fly mine with a 4 cell and its crazy!!! Its even faster then my gas planes!
I have been flying a Dynam Catalina now for over three years and the more you fly this model the more you like it,yes you do need to keep the speed up and it will tip stall but not as dramatic as some twins will,if I get another then the first thing will be to incorporate some washout into the tips so it stalls at the root first, but you know it makes a good twin trainer because it keeps you on your toes and you need to fly this beauty all the way, great on snow we have no water around here but look forward to snowfalls when the Catalina is really at home,it just slithers off the surface even on grass and wet grass is even better ! loved the video and the coupling tips,if you do manage to get some suitable contra props then would love to see the results, thank you.
I deal with motionrc and unlike you guys I've never had a phone call from them about any of the planes I bought from them . I have 2 Dynam and a Freewing. happy with all products I have purchased but never received a phone call. You guys are special.
What a beautiful and graceful plane the PBY Catalina is. The RC version is beautiful and graceful as well. I loved watching this video. Great job guys. Keep the WW2 planes coming.
My Dad was a Catalina mechanic in Pensacola during the war. He also served as Flite Engineer for extra pay. He usually sat in the wing pylon which had windows on each side for him to keep an eye on the structure. He said he dozed off one day and woke to see the tip floats down with telephone poles flashing by like fence posts. He jumped down and told the young pilot to get back to altitude or he would report him. He got to fly the plane that day😁 Some day l hope to have one of these models.
Great vid! Good to see Bob still up and going. Excited about the gaser and balsa builds. A pilot n plane video with Austin's dad and his RV-7 would be really cool
The review to vlog edit style ratio was tuned nicely in this video. Little touches like the visual of the command pathway for mixing yaw into roll - that's useful and elegant. I'm sure you guys have seen the awesome scratch build PBY thread on the FT forums. I hope we'll see that in the next community round-up.
PBY Catalina has been one of my favorite planes for a long time, always thought it would be cool to make one into a flying floating camper which is how I found out about the guy that turned them into flying luxury yacht. I would love to see more RC Catalina content.
I have the elictrifly Catalina, it's really a nice place. A dream to fly, beautiful as well. I really love these planes. Saw one at the museum in madras Oregon and they are huge!! I really want retractable tip floats though!!
You guys called it, Motion RC is awesome and their customer service is second to none. They are my go-to RC airplane store! Well for stuff Flite Test doesn't have that is....
After reading title I thought for a moment that FliteTest were finally releasing a kit version of Localfiend's Mighty Mini Catalina, or (even bigger wish) the 100" version..... Still great to see a Cat' getting some love & really appreciate the tips on the Dynam version, thanks again FT! :)
yes revisit it, one club member at my locale flying club brought out his Catalina and it was incredible to watch in the air, we too did not have water nor ice, but there was long grass
You should totally develop a foam Catalina kit if you haven’t already. Maybe even Taylor Anderson’s fictional Pb-1 Nancy. Both would be really cool. Great video as always!
Now I can buy one and have another connection to my Grandfather who was flying in one in WWII. Also well in my price range as well. Also just to add as far as history goes, these monsters had up to an eighteen hour plus flying time and could fly on one engine as well. The Black Cats as they where known for the night attacks and raids against enemy convoys.
We've had one of these for ages in our garage. The poor thing hasnt even gone out of the box. Its not exactly like this one, its quite diferent. Its really nice.
Are you kidding me? Mine is coming wednesday 2/7 from motionrc.... I just emailed you flitetest guys for the first time last night asking about the Boeing YC 14.... Serendipity ftw. Thanks for the yaw tips, looking forward to it!
Thanks for the great video. I also love the Catalina. But with no water near me, are there any similar style planes for grass take off and landings? Cheers
Can you guys review some more dynam planes next? For example the tiger moth. Im interested in getting a biplane like the PT17 you just reviewed, but it's a little over budget for me. The Dynam aircraft are more affordable.
The Catalina, the original go anywhere plane! I love this plane on realflight and I'm hoping I finally get to fly my fly zone aircore planes that I got, years ago!
Love this plane. So glad you guys made a video for it. Could you guys do a mod video on it? Get counterrotating props from master airscrew(only source I found), change the angle of floats as they dig into water when stock, teach us how FT would do the retractable floats(then sell the kit), throw in some differential thrust for water taxi, and please please please put it in the sky with your beautiful seaduck. Maybe even an fpv camera or two?
If you look at many full size aircraft drawings, the full cure for Adverse Yaw, is to change the throw of the ailerons from equal up and down, to half the up aileron in down. The down aileron has more drag than the up aileron, so move the horn, forward and get 2:1 up to down aileron and adverse yaw will go away.
Nice video, I am building a twin otter with counter rotating props towards the middle, are you using a PUSHER prop on the motor with the SWAPPED ESC wire? thanks in advance
Not a windy weather plane due to wingspan for the weight. On water, flaring on landing is a must. Pretty cool to have a float plane when we go camping at a local dam though. I have a good photo if Flite Test would like it, is the grey color scheme though.
Great plane. My came with counter rotating props. Wondering why yours didnt? Just get some MAS props and switch a motor wire, They are better props anyway. Modded my floats to retract up as well...
Looks like a great plane, but the review of it in the magazine RCM&E said that if you intend to fly it off of the water frequently, you should waterproof the plastic underside as the water can seep in.
I like Catalinas as you do, but amazing drone tracking (as always :-) So how do you track airplanes, is there any tracking device which helps drone pilot/camera to follow flying subjects ? really intrested in :-)
The Cat is a beautiful plane. I was building one in the 1980s ( 2m. span & 2 x OS40 power) until university ended my flying days. I never came up with a float retract system that I was happy with, though. To me, full retracts (floats AND wheels) just HAD to be done to be a proper model, but having the weight of a retract mechanism out near the wingtips struck me as a very bad thing. But if you just want something to fly & have fun then the demonstrated model seems the biz.
With all of the seaplanes! Make things into seaplanes that aren't seaplanes! Simple Cub with floats.... FT-22 with floats... Simple SEA scout! Bushwacker? SEAwacker!
I'd like to invert the one motors rotation direction, but I haven't been able to find props that will allow me to do this. 3 blades 8060 identical counter rotating. Open for suggestions.
Put the spitfire props on ,sort the control horns and wack a six cell on it..... plus the obligatory fpv using the side windows giving a great view....
Chris Crawford because dynam thought it would be a good idea this way there's no problem of running out of stock for one of the props and instead have one type of prop that does it all
I'd just change it. Only means swapping a couple of motor wires and getting a pair of CW / CCW props. Not too keen on the lack of scale details compaired to some of the others Motion RC have dropped recently like the Thunderchief.
To turn left increases lift on right wing, increase lift ,increase lift equals increase drag causing playing to yaw to the right left Rudder compensates for right
1. great plane.
2. nothing got damaged.
3. Bob.
That's the makings of a perfect episode.

Getting a little closer to the old flite test reviews we miss. Fantastic to see bob flying and in the video. Bob you rock!!
When you fly off water watch out for one of the floats digging in on take off & landing. I had one for years & fixed the problem by changing the angle of the floats so that the rear of the floats hit the water first. Love the show, keep up the great work

I LOVE FLITE TEST. CANT AFFORD IT JUST YET SO I WATCH YOU GUYS!!!

Found cw and ccw props for mine at master aircrew website. 8x6x3. Still waiting for a motor shaft before I can fly it again.
tip stalls dont exist! there is no such thing as a tip stall. One wing will stall before the other causing that wing to drop first.
Motion RC is such a wonderful company. And that Catalina is beautiful!
I deal with motionrc and unlike you guys I've never had a phone call from them about any of the planes I bought from them . I have 2 Dynam and a Freewing. happy with all products I have purchased but never received a phone call. You guys are special.
This might be the one for me (on the lake)! Nice flying, ALL 3 of you! Thanks for posting!
What a beautiful and graceful plane the PBY Catalina is. The RC version is beautiful and graceful as well. I loved watching this video. Great job guys. Keep the WW2 planes coming.
Awesome, we have this sliver Catalina fly over my house all the time. It is huge in real life.
aww, so i wish i was there
it also fly's pretty low
Thanks for bringing back the nostalgic FT-tv
PBY Catalina, one of my favorite planes of all time. Thanks for this episode, loved it, love you guys! Thanks for being awesome.
My Dad was a Catalina mechanic in Pensacola during the war. He also served as Flite Engineer for extra pay. Gee! For once, you didn't destroy the test model! Encouraging! Thanks, guys. Appreciate your videos.
Lee Boekhout ha turning over a new leaf ;)... maybe! Ha
PBY Catalina has been one of my favorite planes for a long time, always thought it would be cool to make one into a flying floating camper which is how I found out about the guy that turned them into flying luxury yacht. I would love to see more RC Catalina content.

Wooooo!! Can’t wait for the balsa and gas! Great video guys!👍🏼
Great video. Always loved the pby
I was waiting all day for a video and as soon as I go to class they upload... lol
ha Enjoy the class buddy!
Just wanted to say... Thanks BOB!
Beautiful Bird! Cool to meet Bob also, Hello Bob! Got me thinking about wings now, uh oh.. :) Peace, Wheelchair John in Idaho :)
Pumped to see that 30cc stick! I don't know how practical it would be for you guys but it would be great to see a 30cc Valiant around the shop!
Motion RC is such a great company, I want to own every plane they make.
yes revisit it, one club member at my locale flying club brought out his Catalina and it was incredible to watch in the air, we too did not have water nor ice, but there was long grass
So happy to hear something besides just quads coming up.
You should totally develop a foam Catalina kit if you haven’t already. Maybe even Taylor Anderson’s fictional Pb-1 Nancy. Both would be really cool. Great video as always!
Could you mod it to have counter rotative props ? (using more conventionnel blades ?)
Excellent video guys!!
Hey Bob, nice going, interesting, have the Dynam C-47 and love it.
Very cool. My uncle flew these in WWII
Awesome!..The Cat is one of my favorites..Thank you!
and the model above was amezzing
Could you just put an opposite pitch prop on it and change the rotation of the motor to make them counter rotating?
Bob is awesome
The best!!! Bob is the man!! Ha
We've had one of these for ages in our garage. The poor thing hasnt even gone out of the box. Its not exactly like this one, its quite diferent. Its really nice.
Thanks guys, I'm definitely going to try this for my Catalina.
Are you kidding me? Mine is coming wednesday 2/7 from motionrc.... I just emailed you flitetest guys for the first time last night asking about the Boeing YC 14.... Serendipity ftw. Thanks for the yaw tips, looking forward to it!

Love the Spektrum mix tutorial! thanks guys!
ProbablyFPV glad you enjoyed it!! ;)
Could the mixing be ailerons and one engine (aka differential thrust) ? Does Spektrum make it possible ? Cheers
"Not bad" - Bob 2018
I love watching people and their RC cars drones and planes 👌🏻👌🏻😀😀
Love this plane. So glad you guys made a video for it. Could you guys do a mod video on it? Great video does the cool weather effect the aircraft
It might affect the battery life.
Aircraft efficiency is actually increased due to the denser air. Batteries, however, tend to not last as long.
Very nice plane. Awesome!
good vid. Do the out board pontoons retract to the wings per prototype? Nice to see Josh in the vids again. (watched since original)
Bob showing the rookies how it's done. :-)
HA Bob for the win! ;)
Been waiting for a Dynam plane on here
Nice video, I am building a twin otter with counter rotating props towards the middle, are you using a PUSHER prop on the motor with the SWAPPED ESC wire? thanks in advance
Good video

The podcast said you were going to release something on the destination location today?
Love Navy patrol aviation (VP). How about the P-2, P-3, and the new P-8? Great vid.
Flite test should do a Ft Mighty Mini Catalina or a large Catalina for the Flite test store
Nice model. Good tips.
The Cat is all time favorite aircraft!
I just set mine up for contra-rotation, and it flies straight as an arrow now with 2 new motors and 8 x 6 x 3 Master Airscrew props.
Al
Catalina...a pretty model.. and a good video
Great plane. My came with counter rotating props. Wondering why yours didnt? Just get some MAS props and switch a motor wire, They are better props anyway. Modded my floats to retract up as well...
Damn nice! Y'all got to Rhip their!
Looks like a great plane, but the review of it in the magazine RCM&E said that if you intend to fly it off of the water frequently, you should waterproof the plastic underside as the water can seep in.

hay that mixing was a really nice and easy way to stabalise the aircraft
love the music
The Cat is a beautiful plane. I was building one in the 1980s ( 2m. span & 2 x OS40 power) until university ended my flying days. man I would love to go and hang out with Bob for a day y'all art to do a giveaway trip to hang out with Bob awesome video
Yay flite test upload also do a collab with uavfeatures
Have you guys used the 3d printed motor yet? If not please build a plane with it!!
bobs the new David ....we want more Bob!
Hay guys, That's a cool plane but what's the huge dirt pile by your shop?
Was this the rtf package or the other one and also how did you get it so cheap for me its $300
So when will there be the old 4 videos a week be coming back?
Run a dual fly with Catalina and the Sea Duck.
With all of the seaplanes!
Make things into seaplanes that aren't seaplanes!
Simple Cub with floats....
FT-22 with floats...
Simple SEA scout!
Bushwacker? SEAwacker!
Yes please. Catalina and seaduck would be so cool together.
Dynam t28 from motion rc???? That one would be really cool. :)
Looks like a fun plane to try.
So much fun!
Did you say if this also has landing gear? The Catalina had retractable gear.
so when are we gonna see the next ft design...maybe v2 mustangs
Sick!
If I could own one full-scale plane, it would be a Catalina.
☣droid☣ me too...
me too even looked at one with owning in mind but not enough $$$$ to get her!
Why in the world wouldn’t they equip the Catalina with counter-rotating props? Is there a reason?
Chris Crawford because dynam thought it would be a good idea this way there's no problem of running out of stock for one of the props and instead have one type of prop that does it all
I'd just change it. Only means swapping a couple of motor wires and getting a pair of CW / CCW props. Not too keen on the lack of scale details compaired to some of the others Motion RC have dropped recently like the Thunderchief.
Electrifly Catalina does, and better quality. I love mine
no GOOD reason
Where did that Swedish guy go that was on your channel some years ago?
To turn left increases lift on right wing, increase lift ,increase lift equals increase drag causing playing to yaw to the right left Rudder compensates for right
AWESOME..
Yes! Bob’s your uncle! 😀
You know bob?!!?!?!
im a bob , and an uncle... i do not approve that message
Great plane. Not so good in War Thunder, however. lol
6chhelipilot yea with their record breaking 126 mph speed
will there ever be a mini Catalina?
Is there a model for land or just water gear?
Bootifull plane do a video on a Mig-15 jet RC.
