it is because technology is evolving rapidly. New technology = higher spec requirements. It's not a waste of money if you're gonna use it in your everyday life..... consider it as an asset as it makes your life easier. Nothing in this world is permanent everything degrades.....
Not true s7 edge is enough for everything as I'm typing this with you if you install one ui 2.5 to it it is smooth and it doesnt lag and also has so much features too and also the camera can record with 4k 60 so upgrading is useless this phone motherboard is produced in late 2016 so its a bit newer than launch
Here I'm a Samsung user. Using Galaxy M20 4/64 since March 2019. Still using it...no such issues. It becomes slightly laggy but do wipe cache partition every week and auto restart option turned on. No major issues at all. Currently running on September 2021 security patch. So no security issue. Will get security updates upto January 2023 as promised by Samsung. Already got 2 major updates 9,10. I maintain battery health. So it gives me easily 1 day battery backup. Exynos 7904 14nm still handles day to day tasks. Never slowed down even using a Evo plus 64gb sd card since I use it from beginning. Will upgrade to A52s 5g as Samsung promises to provide 3 major updates and 4 years of security updates 😀. Cheers 🍻
Truth is, your software is only as good as your hardware. You can have software updates for 5-10 years but if your battery health is bad after 3 years(or other hardware problems will occur), you'll have to buy another phone as repair will cost a lot (and other components have aged too so they will also need repair soon). Buy a phone that you can see yourself using for 2-3 years (for midrange), max 3-5 years (for flagship), especially if you're about performance.
The only way to get a phone or tablet to last 5 to years get one new or slightly used latest model. Always update it and maintain it as good as you can. Keep e device as long as it usable and the battery has a good enough charge.
