I thought of myself as a "car guy", but designing your own block to improve on existing manufacturer's designs seems to be next level stuff. Oskari sure knows his stuff!
Im more interested in engineering than racing. I think F1 should constantly change things up like go to 2L 3 cyl 2 stroke sump lubricated for a couple of years. Then do 1L V6 Deisel for a few years. Force them to think up radical engineering solutions.
This 4 cylinder, which makes 3k hp, makes about 750hp... per cylinder... that's insane, in one cylinder this engine makes more power than some modern supercars
Also the amount of things needed to stop this car and make it go straight is mind boggling.. and the suspension and fuel costs.. now if it can run off used restaurant oil. Now we are talking..
From an engineering and design aspect, this blows my mind away, I cannot believe the amount of time and effort that must have gone into the design process, phenomenal

I have a UTI degree including the Mercedes-Benz program, and I think I know a bit about cars. These people know more about exhaust valves than I know about cars, period.
These guys are mechanical engineers, they need to know about the R&D for an exhaust valve, its what engineers do. Auto technicians won't need to know much about anything in detail pertaining to cars. It's just not necessary, not even for ASE Master Certs.

Usually factory cars have double the cylinder count compared to displacement, for the best emissions (example most 4 cylinders are 2.0L, 6 cylinders are 3.0, ) I guess if you don’t have to worry about emissions requirements, like in racing, you can do almost anything. Great interview by the way, the guy genuinely loves what he is talking about and it shows by how well he speaks about it and how knowledgeable he is about the engine 👍
I think they should let him work his magic, if he says it can rev to 10k then do it, if he says longer stroke, okay, if he says it runs best on urine, id want him to test on another engine first.

Sounds like abeast. Being an inline 4, it can use the offcenter crankshaft w/dual balanceshafts strategy that has become so dominant in todays racing competition. Waiting for the valveless, dual crankshaft designs.
6061 aluminum is actually pretty heavy, i had a cnc shop make me a item for racing a while ago and i was surprised at the weight it was, its stronger and lighter than steel the shop told me.
Actually you can get billet "standart" blocks that have used many times before with stock shaped heads for way less. Should start around 20k or maybe even less. Like an 4g63.
More mechanical engineer than scientist, although material science/engineering would be a heavy factory in testing the alloys to make this all possible.
But the difference between the aluminum billet & cast iron is MASSIVE though. You can go from 200 hp to 1300 hp easily :) Too bad the crazy aluminums aren't castable.. I want an all aluminum aircraft engine :)
For the average enthusiast, you don't need a billet block you need better tuning and more experience behind the wheel of your combination before changing it. In Drag Racing lots can be gained from improving short time. Example the power has always been there to run single digits in almost every FWD or AWD compact car, the problem has been not the hardcore, but the average person who isn't hardcore but want the results of somebody that is singularly focused. Given 3000-3400 lbs of the average compact car you need between 500-600 hp to go really fast, low 10's, high 9's do you really need your car to go faster than that?
So what are the external dimensions and weight of the whole thing, exhaust, turbos, and all? 106KG for everything, or just the billet block? Seems like a lot of trouble for 1500hp.
hey you can make the rods from really nice steel alloy skeleton rod, plug the ends and cast them in the billet material then cut and pull the plugs, separate them and machine them out , then they won't stretch, or just use titanium.
3000hp is pretty impressive number from a 244ci engine. I would be curious to know on what kind of fuel it would achieve this? I realize there are a plethora of variables. I'm impressed because, if you increased this engine to 500ci roughly twice the size (NHRA Top Fuel Displacement) it would produce 6,147hp. 6 bar is 87psi!! What fuel would work with that kind of boost pressure? Timing is a HUGE issue how does it work....lol. Thanks. I'm a fan of all things Horsepower😊
For a drag application at the target of 3000 hp we would assume someone would be most likely running on methanol fuel. Methanol has a very high octane rating and a high latent heat of evaporation which means it also has a large cooling effect on the charge temperature.
I ran some numbers...116mm bore x 94mm stroke. 3974cc. ~48mm intake valves. full race setup should produce 650 bhp @ 9500 rpm naturally aspirated. 5 bar boost...3000 bhp. I'm sure it can do that...for a very short time. it must shake like a bitch!
Nestor Urias they had some issues getting engine ready in time for wtac 2017, so they ran their older engine instead. Link above my post is not this engine.
I think the 3000 hp refers to the calculated hp the block can resist, the way you make the boost and what fuel you use to make it happen its up to the end user, if you look billet block specs all of them have a estimate of the amount of hp that the block can take, the problem comes to actually making a set up where you can make those 3000 hp, if it interest you look up australian drag racing teams that use four cylinders and in line six blocks they make that kind of hp in their race cars using billet blocks like this one

Some of the specifically blended race fuels could also be workable but typically in very high boost, high specific output engines, methanol is still the go-to fuel.

7075-T6 is bloody rugged stuff. Not cheap either.Tensile yield over 70K psi if memory serves.

I think 6061-t6 is created through a rapid repetition chill process reducing the yield % but because incredibly strong.
Yield strength billet to cast Billet 6061 almost 10%
Cast 1.6 weld billet repairable 7070 series getting hard to weld but incredibly yield strength

4 cylinder respect on this build..
1L pistons are fairly large at 94mm stroke and 10,500rpm that is over 6400 feet per minute. The piston is not going to keep its skirt for long.
