My mum and I drove past the spot where the car fatally crashed. I'd never heard of him before, and my mum told me his story. He seems like a great man and he will be missed! R.I.P Peter
I remember this day like it's yesterday. I was 16 at the time. I walked home from high school (10th grade at the time) as I lived not far from my school. The family had just brought a fryer so made some home made chips, put them on and booted up my pc to check my emails for the day. After signing out the page re-directed to a Yahoo news page where the main title screamed "Racing legend Peter Brock dies in crash" I originally thought the site was either hacked as a prank or that it was a simple case of mistaken identity. Checked several other news site and they said the same thing. I rushed out, turned off the fryer (by that time, my chips were cooked just a little over-done but not burnt) and grabbed the house phone to ring my father at his work. (My hands were shaking badly and tears were in my eyes which felt stinging) I relayed the news to him while trying to remain strong and not ball my eyes out. Hung up the phone, ate my late lunch then practically collapsed on to the floor and sobbed like there was no tomorrow.
I was in primary school at time and when news broke my teacher who was a massive revhead had to leave because he was heartbroken and we had to get a fill in teacher. Still remember it.
@@colinstewart1432yeah it had a basic stability adding cage but going that fast and hitting a tree it doesn’t really matter. That type of car has almost no room inside as well
it doesn't seem like 11 years ago since we lost the great man I still miss seeing him scream around a track and his smile rest in peace Peter perfect 😢
That day was fucked the saddest day in my life apart from loosing my father last year still miss ya brocky and always will your sitting up there in Holden hevan as proud as puch of what lowndesy has achieved so far at Bathurst I wonder if you will wave your magical wand this year for his eighth Bathurst victory
I took a last lap round the mountain hall Stopped on Skyline and messaged the wall Got back in my car and drove away Down the Esses where the great man roared Through Forest Elbow flat to the floor And watched his spirit leave down Conrod Way Then a cold chill swept over me At the Chase I couldn’t see My eyes were filled with tears As I thought back through the years When Brockie and his Holden 05 Both made me glad to be alive Now he’s gone and i just....cried That day, when Brockie..........died. And I was singin'!........... Bye bye mister zero five Drove my Holden down to Mobil but the bowser was dry The checkout chick was looking teary-eyed Saying “Brockie’s gone and I don’t know why This will be the day that I died."
I MOURN BROCKY FOREVER BUT I ALSO REMEMBER YVETTE SO MUCH TOO I LOVED YVETTE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL LADY TO LOOK AT ON THE NEWS EVERY NIGHT BACK IN THE DAY AFTER HARD DAYS WORK MISS THEM BOTH ALOTTTTTTTT
It was definitely equipped with a roll cage. Unfortunately, they don't offer much protection in the event of a side impact. Just look at what unfortunately happened to Mark Porter at Bathurst a few weeks later.
If it was in a rollover a roll cage would have been sufficient. In a side impact with a narrow, round object like a tree trunk, there is not much that can be done with current technology. Too much energy is focused on a very small area. The result is a penetrating force that very few vehicles can survive without the forces being transferred to the driver. This is why race tracks have walls all the way around them. Tarmac rallies cannot be walled for obvious reasons. Speeds are limited but you cannot push a car to it's limits without significant risk. Sometimes luck just runs out.
@@freefall0483 I totaly agree ... But if you look at these pics it does not seem that it was a proper rollcage ... compare it to allan Simonson's car for example ... was a terrible impact, too ... but the car did not brake ... Anyway the forces might have killed him - also ... rip Peter
5:40 THIS GUY IS SAYING SOMETHING. HE SUSPECTS SOMETHING. LOTS OF OFFICIALS HE SAYS, BUT NOT ONE OF THEM WARNED HIM ABOUT PREVIOUS DEATHS ON THIS TRACK? ON THE MOST DANGEROUS CAR YOU CAN DRIVE, EVER? DO RACERS COME HERE TO DIE OFTEN?

fantastic driver died doing what he loved best. sorry for your loss Australia.
Not many of us get the chance to go out in a blaze of glory doing what we love.
10 years later they still haven't released the video footage of the crash. Personally I hope they never release it.
10 years.....damn. RIP Brocky.
Totally agreed. Some things should just never be seen.
RIP Brocky.
Totally agreed. Some things should just never be seen.
RIP Brocky.
Why is that? It should be shown it wasn't murder. The footage is a little odd.
Why wouldn't you require some proof of what really happened?
Why would you want to see footage of a fatal crash?

Peter Brock. Bathurst god, Racing legend and Aussie icon. RIP 05.

So long Brocky. We'll miss you
I’m an American but Peter Brock was a legend. Same with Steve Irwin
Steve Irwin And Peter Brock Were The Legends Of Australia
As of 2024 his wife Bev Brook has passed away too.
18 years this Sunday since we lost him
The story of Brock mirrors so closely that of Joey Dunlop that it's scary.
R.I.P race in peace
R.I.P peter perfect
Well at least he is in a better place know if m crying 😭 I have a signed shirt by Brocky R.I.P he was my icon
Now Yvettes with him
Three famous people died within this same week...just upsetting to know that they aren't around anymore.
Losing Peter Brock and Steve Irwin was hard.

Rip brocky and Irwin
RIP Yvette Mooney (1963-2022).
I wonder if the car was equipped with a rollcage? if it was, then brock would have survived.
of course it had a rollcage, 2:17

all race cars have a rollcage my brother was a dirt rally navigator and he broke his neck In a crash during a race. hes car had and still has a cage

It's a public road the previous deaths were not competing in a race event they were just commuting on a local road
@@715101 THanks for ruining my conspiracy. What a bummer.
The same week we lost brockie and Steve Irwin what a blow it was
Such a bizarre week that one....
My hero forever.
American Peter Brock who was scammed million dollars is still alive.
Still chokes me up 😞
so sad, this hurts
RIP pete
The Netfliks special on him is Brilliant..............
Watching after we lost Rod Marsh & Shane Warne just days ago
I crashed my 1000cc super bike 200m before brock’s corner & my nan died on the same day that brock died
www
Great coverage, made my eyes wet :(
Happy birthday brocky
Motor racing kill its legends to show how dangerous it is
Steve Irwin then Peter brock 4 days later.
RIP Mate
❤️🙏❤️
see you up front brocky race in peace
So much for being "perfect".
Suicide to race that car on those roads , one mistake and you hit a Gumtree , the inevitable happened in my opinion .
Hugh Jackman should play Peter!
Totally. He'd be perfect 🤜💥🤛
rallying with an open face helmet and fragile car, it was always a tickling time bomb
Did he have a roll cage ?
0:45 '...and both killed by fishtails.'
One of the best drivers ever and complete legend
