Top fabrication skills Mike, it's amazing that simple system can support 5 - 600 lbs.

Thanks, Mike! I’ve been busy making my rotisserie out of metal, and it’s going well. I’ll send some pictures when I figure out how...

      Thanks Brett!
I sure could use some better video equipment...doing with my iphone is rough
Audio always sucks and HD quality never seems to smooth out.
might have to invest in some go pro when we get to paint..Lots more fun then=)
get some real nice up close quality video
      Cheers!

Looks like the 912's have a different engine mounting setup; new dimensions are needed.

I was under the impression that the car didn't have any rust. Were you surprised at the state of the front end? Even so I think it's very restorable and mostly contained to the surface. I'm interested to see how you resurface and repair it. Your effective rotisserie looks to serve you well. Thank you for sharing!

      Hi Mike
the front pan is a problem with these cars..water settles inside and rots them out
Even he best rust free examples will usually have issues there. Aslo had some rust on the front weather stripping lip.
Glad you liked the video I enjoy sharing what I can maybe makes a difference to someone
And get those cars back on the road!
      Appreciate the comment!

Hi Mike, can you help me with something....is your front spike welded to the face of the box section or is it drilled right through and welded at both faces of the box section? I am doing a very similar design and concerned that the weld may not be strong enough. Any thoughts? Thanks

Mike, I'm getting my '66 912 bead blasted shortly, have the tub on a roll-around wooden cart, but would like to build your rotisserie out of metal. Can you share a diagram and dimensions?

      Hello Hank
Congratulations with a great start to your 66!
I have diagrams inserted somewhere in those rotisserie 1-3 segments..I don't recall off hand exactly where I placed them but if you pause those videos when coming to the information you could then transfer.
Where are you located? Im actually getting ready to part with my entire rotisserie setup and all stands

Mike, can you give us the dimension from the top of the rear carrier to the center of the pipe?

      Hello Hank
Can you be more specific? From ground to bottom of saddle and pipe diameter?

@@MikesRestorations MIke, I'm making my unit out of metal; I need the dimension from the bottom of the sheet metal (under the engine mounts and lips) to the center of the pipe. I'm using 1 3/4" thick wall tubing. I hope that's clear. Thanks!

      Hello Hank!
Sorry for taking so long to get back with you
The measurement from bottom of frame on car to center of 1 3/4 pipe is 2 7/8 inch.
This should allow you to bolt to the frame thru the engine mounts and be able to clear the pipe against the bottom sheetmetal on the body
      Good Luck!

      Hello A Connell
The front spike is butt welded and does not drill thru
However the rear spike does pass through the wood assembly
      Good Luck!

    • @aconnell1221
      @aconnell1221 4 года назад

@@MikesRestorations Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll go with a butt weld to the front face then as it clearly was strong enough for your car. I did notice you'd changed the design of the rear timber setup and the second one you used looked very strong indeed.
I've been watching all of your videos and although I'm restoring a modern classic, I've found your vids to be very inspirational. I particularly like your attention to detail and methodical approach to everything you do. Keep it up! Thanks Alistair

Hi Mike, thanks for your advice. I have now built my own stands and have the car mounted on them. I pretty much copied your design and I can tell you, they are rock solid! I even painted them black and POR15'd the steelwork. Absolutely no movement in the stands themselves and very little movement in the spikes (although my design is different to yours as it's a different car). I've had quite a few people who are impressed with the setup but 've been quick to pass all credit to yourself for the design. I also tell them about your vids. thanks again for the advice and inspiration.
