    Thanks Mike! Huge help. Your willingness to experience the difficulties first and then explain to us as a forewarning is probably not as appreciated as it should be. I really appreciate your efforts.

    Headliners... as soon as they arrive in a box, unbox them and lay them flat.. in a spare room in your house. When ready to install it, I lay it outside in the sun for an hour or so, usually on the roof of another of my cars, a dark colored car works best. really softens and takes out whatever folds or bends might be left in it.

    If it hadn’t been for your videos I would have been screwed. I worked on a 71’ and 75’ and was just supposed to paint. Turned into reassemble and I wasn’t the one who disassembled. Thanks

    Another nice one Mike! I've never seen a headliner DIY done with glue instead of paper clamps, but it does seem much more smooth and effective. One just has to have a lot of confidence, I suppose!

    Easier way to locate the rear view mirror location is to screw the screws in the place before you install the headliner also the same rule for the sunvisors etc, always draw a center line on the back of the material and mark the centers on the vehicle, pre glue the headliner with spray grade contact adhesive around the perimeter just some tips from a motor trimmer with 23 years experience

    I just installed mine with a roll bar. This is not easy like the video shows. I did this in 6 different evenings. Allowing sections to dry. Key area is the sleeve area of the fabric around the bows. Poke the bows through. Cut that area back so the fabric does not gather at the bow connection area. Then the Rear bracket was not shown. I'm guessing I'll wire tie around that rear rod. Then pull and secure it.

    Mike, this video is great! The drawing which shows the order in which to glue headliner is very helpful. Do you have a similar pattern for the installation in a sunroof equipped car?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  2 года назад

      Hello Ross thank you Im glad it was helpful..
      I haven't done a sunroof liner but I would imagine the same type of principles would apply.
      I would approach it from a none liner roof first and then after its stretched into position in the rough I would then cut out the sunroof portion with considerable over size.
      Attaching the four corners first and then the middle sections on the straight runs.
      As things begin to fall into place it should be fairly easy to see what need to tighten and fasten.
      The trick is to go extremely slow and think through every move thoroughly before committing.
      Best fo luck!! and please let us know how it goes

    Hi Mike, great videos! Have learned a lot by watching your installations. I was wondering if you have a video showing how you installed the A pillar trim? I did not find this on your other videos, the later ones show this trim installed. I am about to install this A pillar trim on my 69 and would like to learn any tricks to get it done correctly.
    Thanks,
    Mike

      Hello Mike
      I don't have any video on the pillars directly but some of the techniques used in the rear upholstery installation video will be helpful. Also some close video up work on the door jamb should be of some help in that same video.
      I used the factory originals for templates and contact cemented them in place..rolled the ends back onto themselves for the finished edge

    How do you arrange the cross bows in the right order on a 63 356B. Can you help.

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hello Dennis
      Most headliners using a crossbow installation method are installed by length. For example if you have 5 cross bows, lay them out flat from shortest to longest. Next measure the distance between the roof holes side to side. The bows will arrange in their perspective mating pattern according to the closet match front to back by length .
      Good luck!

  • @garyhemmer8430

    so, I have no clue as to the actual orientation of the bows, I am not the first one to replace the headliner. the two front bows are exactly the same length on my 1967 912. the third bow is longest and then the forth is just a bit shorter. I marked as I removed, is there a way to tell which one is actually placed where? also, there are slightly longer ends on one side. is there a proper orientation? ie the longer end fits to the passenger side? any help is appreciated!

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  3 года назад

      Hello Gary
      It's difficult to say exactly how your bows should layout especially if someone else has played with them before. I would recommend trying various combinations to see which way they settle in best and it should work out okay. The ends should have some rubber sleeves to help give them some grip. I don't thing that one side necessarily should be placed on driver or passenger in particular..
      Different length of those end bends could be mgf discrepancies
      Good Luck!!
