  • Tuning my cammed 5.3 LS silverado did not end well today, heard a loud ticking noise and thats all she wrote. Hopefully I don't need to rebuild the engine again. If so I'm thinking we should build a 6.0 lq9 or lq4.

    Ironically i have one broken valve spring bug it didnt separate it kind of just crushed and coiled together. Also bent a pushrod but just one of them.

    Those rockers could be hitting the stock valve covers also there a lot of factors when you go adding all that stuff to it bc it’s putting more lift in the valve train.

    how did you get the stem out

    If it’s on the down stroke, just rotate it backwards at the crank.

    Can you but a small bolt on your strong magnet to grab the valve? This seems like your pushrods were too long. Did your new rockers also change the ratio?

    • @MitchCarveth
      @MitchCarveth  Год назад +1

      I'll have to try a stronger magnet, the one I was using wasn't doing the trick. Pushrod length and rocker ratio all checked out before installing the engine in the truck. I'm now thinking the weight of the aftermarket rocker arms is the main issue. I'm sure my old tuner revving it to the moon didn't help either.

    Im pretty sure just pull the head bite the bullet.. what contact can you think of would bend those push rods the valves are fucked and make sure you didnt bend the conrods. Or crack a piston. Valve floated and struck

      I'm sure you are right, My only hope is that the broken spring wedging itself between the exhaust valve and intake spring is what caused the rods to bend cause that shit was locked up solid. Highly unlikely but hoping for the best lol

    Just had the exact same problem. Pulled the head and it is destroyed along with the piston. Spark plug chewed

      Big oof, I hate to hear it man, hoping to get some time tomorrow to do some more digging and see what all got damaged. I pulled the spark plug and she looks brand new still but that doesn’t mean I’m in the clear yet.

    Damn brotha that’s a freakin bummer. What springs were they

    • @MitchCarveth
      @MitchCarveth  Год назад +1

      Extra bummer, they were the LS blue beehive springs, I was told and had read I would be fine running them cause it’s not a high lift cam. I didn’t take into consideration the weight of the aftermarket rocker arms tho and I think that’s what got me.

      @@MitchCarveth damn. I just completely rebuilt my lc9 5.3. Deleted the DOD. I put in ls7 lifters and ls6 springs. But the cam I’m running is the Howard’s rattler. It’s a low lift cam as well .525 lift. I’m running the stock rockers with the comp cams trunnion kit. When I saw your video I got a lil nervous about my springs as well. I hope you get her put back together and can start terrorizing the streets soon man. Good luck

      That will be a good running set up! did you got with the ls6 blues like mine or the yellows? and thank you, I can't wait to get her back on the road!

    Those aftermarket rockers are heavy....Definitely too much for for factory type springs.

    • @MitchCarveth
      @MitchCarveth  Год назад +2

      I legit didn't think it would be an issue, Going with dual springs and hardened pushrods for sure.

    • @alvinsmith6101
      @alvinsmith6101 Год назад +1

      @@MitchCarveth There was also a issue with those rockers needing to be clearanced sometimes because the underside would hit the spring retainer.
