If I get a second updated cover, do you think it would knock the consumption back down again? I wondered if I get a second updated cover would it bring my oil consumption back down cause of the PCV.
So I have a misfire in cylinder 4 p0304 2009 gmc sierra 1500 4.8 v8 Swapped spark plugs , coil , plug wire , fuel injectors and nothing so I checked for vacuum leaks nothing Popped the valve cover the rocker arms are good and the lifters are good and I did a compression test and got 120 psi any tips ?
Excessive oil consumption on that cylinder. Need to run a compression test on the motor, possible broken ring or valve seals on that cylinder. Good luck.
I actually heard it will because of the rough idle sets some sensor off linked to the stabiltrack. Im having the same issue in my 2011 6cyl. Idles rough, losing power at low speed sometimes then seems to run fine after 45mph. Stabiltrack light comes on while idling rough and low mph. Cyl 6 misfire but electrical is good.
@@FalconsGarage actually I looked at the bulletin and in September or October 2011 they started manufacturing the 2012 with the new valve cover. At least that’s my best guess from bulletin. Thank you! Great channel!
Thanks for the video Falcon! I have a 07 silverado with the 4.8l v8 and having oil consumption problems. Question: is the PCV built into the valve cover? I can't pull it out of the valve like other chevy engines. Thanks for your response.
Holy shit really.. i just this exact job to replace my valve cover gasket and cylinder 1 spark plug was oily… it wasn’t fouled tho, just oily on the threads. I think it might have been due to leaking gasket - hence why i even did the job. My valve cover was the newer updated version too. Also, my new and old plugs were all gapped to 0.040 not 0.060? And finally my torque spec for valve cover bolts was 89 inch pounds, or 7.5 foot pounds - not 11 ft/lbs. Hopefully thats all ok… lol
@@KatiTheButcheri got em, from Haynes and some online. Most these type bolts i would often go by feel, but if it’s something thats had an issue i try to go by spec. Highest spec ive found for valve cover bolts is 106 inch lbs and lowest is 89. So basically between 7.5 and 9 lbs. 11 isn’t too far off I suppose… but honestly 9 is what is listed in my 400 page gmc service manual. 11 lbs is the spark plug torque. You’re bang on with the plug gap being listed at .06 tho, but apparently they updated that to 0.04. First when iridiums came out, then they changed it to all plugs. The larger gap is too hard the ignition system and as things ware over time you’ll get a sketchy idle, pinging and low power.
This is hands down the best video I have ever watched about how to do something!
Best video I've seen explaining things and going into detail. Very professional
Excellent video! Thank you for taking the time to show everyone!
Unbelievable that they would make a pcv valve that complicated to change, just unbelievable.
Honestly was super easy. Takes 10 minutes
Very nice and smooth video, Thanks. Why I love Chevy Trucks. Just like the BBC. Oil drain back and pressure are key.
Thanks
Would it cause a po302 misfire as well?

unless its very dirty on the inside I dont think so
So is it just the Drivers side Valve cover that needs the updated valve cover or do both need the updated cover?

Maybe you need new valve cover gaskets, sometimes air gets in through there, or were you put the oil in, it sometimes needs a gasket there
07 yukon 5.3 keep having oil puff out on startup, and cyl 6 misfire. Keep having to change that spark plug. Anyone with any insight, tia!

My sons 09 uses oil . Would changing his valve cover help ?
help yes .. but wont fix the issue entirely
Will this make the stabilitrack light come on
no

Did you try this? Did it work?
Thanks for video! Very good. Have to do this to my 04 silverado.
Glad it helped
Will the valve cover of an older 5.3l bolt up to my 2013? Im not a fan of the none cleanable check valve.
You did a good job
I was replacing gasket on valve cover and if it wasn’t for this video I would not have know about the tsb. Thanks

You said this was 07 to 11 models? So is the 2012 5.3 valve cover good?
should be .. or at least there isnt a updated part for this valve cover

There are a few different 5.3 l engines that could be and yours you need to know the 8th digit of the VIN number that is your engine identification
apply to trailblazer 2008 engine 5.3 gm?
Hello even better and less expensive get a valve cover from a 2002 2003 model that has the PCV valve in the back and is replaceable
good idea
It says that part number is not the correct one for my 2007 NNBS Silverado

on this years .. yes its build in
I thought the gap was .040?
@@puesaquel4646pretty sure it is
@@puesaquel4646no that year is .060 i saw the data plate on the right side of the engine compartment, blew my mind large gap!!!!
0.60 is to wide for the 5.3 engine the plugs will foul after-30,000 miles 0.40 gap is the best for the 5.3 engine
As per book .40-1.02
@@FalconsGarage platinum plugs 0.50-0.60 iridium 0.40 2004 and up 0.40

I would be calling my mechanic for specs as a last resort if you can't find them online.
