It seemed that Tony wanted to maintain this mythical-like, invincible image that people painted of him, and it inevitably backfired. His highly unusual training, insane cardio, quick recovery from gruesome injuries, unnecessary weight cut and the "type of guy" memes all made him appear inhuman to people, and he fed into that. Elderly people often believe they are more capable than they are because aging is a slow process and their brain does not seem to be fully aware of their deteriorating physical condition. Obviously , Tony is not an elderly person but this feels like a similar phenomenon. It’s like the people who believe they can climb Mount Everest but physically they are not up to the task and they end up dying on the mountain. It also could be something like your brain is sort of shielding you from the reality of your physical abilities so your mind can continue to function like it has been. It is a short term assured protection in exchange for a long term unknown risk. If this is the case, his mind is not functioning very clearly and he desperately needs to stop fighting. I’m not a neuroscientist or brain doctor these are just my speculations.
He’s a true warrior that needs someone to help him leave the fight on his own terms. This should have been a Chuck Liddel situation where Dana basically forced him to retire after his loss to Rich Franklin.
Tony will always be my favorite fighter. When he was in his streak there was no one I'd rather watch. Hope he retires cause I hate watching him get hurt...
of course, we ALL have a lot of words, but the first: SAD. Tony was not only A reason to tune in, sometimes he was THE reason to be excited for a card.
This video has been recommended repeatedly to me, haven't watched it yet but I'm glad you're singling out one of the og goats to get clicks, good on you, great job
They’re wrestling nerds who have no respect for any fighters at all, think they understand ‘the sport’ better than fighters do, I unsubscribed long ago but still get their bullshit on my feed
6:15 good point. They are called commissions and at some point won’t sanction these fights but it doesn’t yet seem bad enough to expose legal liability. This is where Tony is one of the first guys “too tough for your own good” isn’t just a cliche. He really is. Unfortunately for this to happen he’s going to really need to get massively smashed. Ironically one of the best case example of this is from New York and then refusing to license a former champion in Bob Fitzsimmons. If they can do it over a century ago, they should be able to work it out now. Though I still don’t think we’re there yet but I agree that’s what this will take. He does have a right to make money and he’s making conscious choices to fight. The other side of this is ppl aren’t appreciating what taking fighting away from him will do to him mentally. I know runners who physically were forced to retire from sprinting around my severely 30s just bc it’s a tough grind in Europe and they fell apart. It defined them. They’d rather risk losing bad and injury bc they fear the mental anxiety of no longer doing the one thing they thought they were useful for. It’s legitimately sad. That drove them more than wanting to win hence why they couldn’t hang them up on their own. This happens a lot in boxing too see Evander, James Toney, etc.
Doesn’t happen to everyone… nobody loses 7 in a row an keeps their job. And of course he’s in denial, rumor has it David Goggins is making him swim the entire river upstream.
You guys should have a talk about Dana and his recent bizarre remarks about Aspinall and Perriera, and how he is underpromoting them and instead promoting Jon, he was very abnormally angry in the 304 press conference, especially when anyone mentioned Tom n Alex
5:50 not exactly correct. In Bryan Danielson's case, WWE's doctors were refusing to clear based on the company's directive rather than an actual medical clearing process which he had passed multiple times... which is why he came out of retirement in 2018 (and WAS cleared by WWE's doctors) and is still competing right now (though to be fair he's decided to slow his career down). In Edge's case, he had spinal fusion surgery in 2010 and decided to step away on his personal physician's recommendation. He returned in 2020 after a full medical assessment where he was cleared by both his and WWE's doctors and is only on the shelf right now because he broke his leg. He's had no further neck issues.
Remember a few fights ago Tony went around saying in every interview “my wife asked me when I’m going start giving it 100%” I can imagine his wife sat down with him but didn’t want to hit a nerve directly telling him to retire so was like skirting around it and that’s what he took from their talk
The referee stops the fight when you're no longer intelligently defending yourself. How many years is it since Tony intelligently did anything? The UFC's decision making seems to be terrible on every level lately, it's like they cannot do anything right for the fighters, the fans, the sport, the business, and the corpse of El Cucuy is emblematic of that.
Yes, exactly. This is why the UFC’s revenues are shrinking, why they aren’t expanding globally, why fighters continue to leave the organization and are unable to be replaced with the best unsigned talent in the world and why …. wait a second
Tony could have been Forrest Griffin tier for UFC behind the scenes. He is intelligent and would have done well on those UFC demonstrations segments and sub-channels. It’s hard watching him fail the point he is trying to prove.
Tony is the classic case of someone getting "old overnight". It happens in boxing where a fighter seems to still be competitive, then one fight changes everything. Gaethje took his soul and spirit that night, he has not been the same since. I'm afraid he is one of those guys who'll get carried out on his shield.
I think Al Iaquinta and Aljo are smart in this way, they are moving into real estate and it’s providing a new challenge, a new thing to focus on. Al is retired, Aljo is getting up there in age and has most likely already peaked in his career, so branching out is a good idea for fighters now. Doesn’t always have to be real estate, anything that gets the person out of bed in the morning works, Tony just needs to find a new thing to dedicate his life to.
It was sad two fights ago for Tony, now... it's almost breaking though to the other side and becoming inspiring. It almost is, but that inspiration left me when I heard he was sparring for 120 days and over training again. It's not the fights that are doing him in though a couple of those tough losses def didn't help, it's the overtraining.
Even if Tony isn't fighting for the UFC he'll still continue fighting some where else. I can see him going till hes 50 cause he just won't give it up. He hasn't won a fight since 2019 and taken brutal losses. It's hard to see.
Tony is extremely coherent in this presser, more than several years. I think the weight cuts were really hurting him. I’m betting on Tony and will get trolled for this when he loses.
It’s sad. We all meme’d on Tony, but now we’re begging for him to step away. He has one of the most impressive, and certainly the most violent streaks, arguably in UFC history, but definitely in lightweight history. I think the problem is, he thinks he has something to prove to himself. I hope he either wins, or if he does lose, it’s a decision that he doesn’t get hit too much. Tony, please, retire after tomorrow. You are loved by EVERYONE. It’s time, Tony.
Tony Ferguson feels like a Dom Cruz that never wanted to go through with the mental training and thought that he's better than nature, and that staying hard is a mental thing. The whole world awarded him for it. Now there's no way to "unaward" him. That one glove is at least honest, but... I don't care about him losing if he's fine, but he's very not fine with losing himself. These people can't seem to learn how to take losses unless extraordinary, unignorable things happen to them.
He has always been a nutjob, people just thought it was quirky, now its just sad
This.
All the weirdo shit was so annoying. He's been shit since after his first couple years of fame.

It ain’t that deep lil bro
He’s a true warrior that needs someone to help him leave the fight on his own terms. This should have been a Chuck Liddel situation where Dana basically forced him to retire after his loss to Rich Franklin.
Yes they should’ve made him retire after Diaz
They will make him retire
I got a feeling Tony is gonna go the Junior Seau route……
Or the Chris Benoit route.
Tony not stopping until he gets the record for longest win streak and longest losing streak
Ok he lost to Paddy and Bobby but everyone else he lost to was the best 155ers in the world.
Maybe I’m delusional but I think he can win tomorrow 😢
You're delusional
Not gonna lie MMA on point have been killing it with the content.
Doesn’t happen to everyone… nobody loses 7 in a row an keeps their job.
And of course he’s in denial, rumor has it David Goggins is making him swim the entire river upstream.
Nah we are 7 wins from a title shot baby ITS TONY TIME
Long time Tony Ferguson fan. I really want him to save something for after fighting. It hurts me to see him like this.
You guys should have a talk about Dana and his recent bizarre remarks about Aspinall and Perriera, and how he is underpromoting them and instead promoting Jon, he was very abnormally angry in the 304 press conference, especially when anyone mentioned Tom n Alex
It's about to go down. Lets go Tony 💪🏻
This video should have come out when Goggins was "training" him
And lost again today
Tony is just doing this to train his fans patience.
El Cucuy coming up with new training methods always
Great vid
Remember a few fights ago Tony went around saying in every interview “my wife asked me when I’m going start giving it 100%” I can imagine his wife sat down with him but didn’t want to hit a nerve directly telling him to retire so was like skirting around it and that’s what he took from their talk
Tony is winning this Fight 🎉
The referee stops the fight when you're no longer intelligently defending yourself. How many years is it since Tony intelligently did anything? The UFC's decision making seems to be terrible on every level lately, it's like they cannot do anything right for the fighters, the fans, the sport, the business, and the corpse of El Cucuy is emblematic of that.
Yes, exactly. This is why the UFC’s revenues are shrinking, why they aren’t expanding globally, why fighters continue to leave the organization and are unable to be replaced with the best unsigned talent in the world and why …. wait a second
@@colejames423 growing doesn't mean improving. Often it requires the opposite.
Tony could have been Forrest Griffin tier for UFC behind the scenes. He is intelligent and would have done well on those UFC demonstrations segments and sub-channels. It’s hard watching him fail the point he is trying to prove.
it’s tony time⚔️😇
Good episode
Tony is the classic case of someone getting "old overnight". It happens in boxing where a fighter seems to still be competitive, then one fight changes everything. Gaethje took his soul and spirit that night, he has not been the same since. I'm afraid he is one of those guys who'll get carried out on his shield.
We need Tony in Power Slap ASAP !!
We love Tony ❤️
God. We all love Tony. I hope he finds something else in his life thats not making the walk, that he can chase
This is the fight for him to go out on....but he won't, sadly. I mentioned this in a reel - he's tarnishing his legacy.
Much more balanced. good to see you mostly be able to finish your sentence. I want Tony to finish on a win and then retire. It was time 4 fights ago.
Tony is an absolute warrior so he won’t quit. We need to save him from himself
This is harder in pro wrestling because the guy can always pick up a win and his opponents always can dial it down.
Love u guys
Jason’s new trim 🔥
I love Tony and I don’t want him fighting any more
Jason is fucking great man, no bullshit ever always straight to point
MMA Right On Point 💯
Tony should start a RUclips mma commentary channel. It would be a huge moneymaker.
Tony is going to fight forever CSO!!
Even if Tony isn't fighting for the UFC he'll still continue fighting some where else. I can see him going till hes 50 cause he just won't give it up. He hasn't won a fight since 2019 and taken brutal losses. It's hard to see.
Tony's situation is the worst because he took a lot of damage at his best and he is crazy so it's scary now
*Tony's addicted to the game man. Probably one of the purest combatants to ever walk the Earth.*
No he’s in Abu Dhabi, not de Nile in Africa
Thing is he has always been like this . Its just sad at this point . Still rooting for tony CSO
He’s getting this W
Tony is extremely coherent in this presser, more than several years. I think the weight cuts were really hurting him.
I’m betting on Tony and will get trolled for this when he loses.
its the difference between "you still got it" and watching someone self immolate. I don't want to watch Tony burn out.
It’s time, Tony.
tony is not in denial.
he is mentally tougher than any living thing should be.
This was a question worth asking in 2021 after he got dominated three fights in a row.
It’s not even a question now.
Worst thing for Tony would be to WIN this next fight
Tony Ferguson feels like a Dom Cruz that never wanted to go through with the mental training and thought that he's better than nature, and that staying hard is a mental thing. The whole world awarded him for it. Now there's no way to "unaward" him. That one glove is at least honest, but... I don't care about him losing if he's fine, but he's very not fine with losing himself. These people can't seem to learn how to take losses unless extraordinary, unignorable things happen to them.
