The 10 is a great aircraft, it got a kick in the crotch from some mechanics that didn't follow the instructions. I am confident it has the largest most comfortable cockpit in the industry.
This aircraft will be here in Australia in a few weeks time for our fire season. It will have a few extra stickers added and be given the nickname Southern Belle. It will work out of an Airforce Base west of Sydney with a C130 from Coulson that is already here nicknamed Thor
I remember getting home from school thinking that day will be a good day then I opened my curtains in my room then I saw the gray black smoke and fire coming out of the mountains.
I think the DC10 wasn't super popular with the flying public because it had some crashes and incidents that made the flying public weary of it. So, Fed Ex got them at a great price because the public didn't like them. Even though it was an exceptionally successful aircraft design, the air force uses it as a tanker. the three engine design was a hold over for international routes, Now engines are so reliable that a twin engine 777 can cross the Pacific ocean without concern of engine failure. Thats just my personal opinion.
Because trijets are costly to operate, with low seating capacity like the DC10/MD11. Only very large planes have more than two engines, like the Boeing 747 and Airbus 380.
Allow me to clear up a common misunderstanding -- fire-fighting planes don't actually drop water. By flying around the fire, they consume oxygen which starves the fire.
Often times the the lead plane will give the bomber a show me pass. To verify all are understanding the line of drop and make sure most effective use of the pass.
Complaint, smaller air tankers fly in circles around the fires. Typically there is also an Air attack flying in circles above the fire as well, he is in charge of the aircraft. Large tankers such as the 747 and DC10s require a lead plane and will mark where they want the drop using white smoke out of the back of the plane. Air tankers also typically do a practice run too, this is especially true when you have a fire in rugged terrain.
This footage is of the Loma Fire, it was near Morgan Hill, The Big Sur fire was called the Soberanes Fire, they both burned at about the same time. Monterey sits right between the two fires.
Never met anyone who flew the 10 that didnt absolutely LOVE the airplane. Been flying turbojets for 30 years.

RUclips would be a much different place if everyone could operate A camera like this guy.
Thank you for noticing. :-)
youtube booooooo - One would hope the camera work is steady, the planes look like they're flying over the next county.
The American aeronautics industry is the best in the world, greetings from Brazilians.
You are right.
I've got to say that this was some beautiful work!!!
The steady camera work is more impressive than the subject being filmed. Great job!!
My name is Duggy and i can tell thats a Douglas plane ;-;
He's beautiful!!! And yes Great camera work Too!

aussiefirie , Can I get a ride one way, thanks. Standing by...
Which one 910 or 912? There's more than those two.
So beautiful. Mesmerizing ...
Thank you
That is some STEADY camera work!
Thank you! I owe it all to my tripod, 4 times heavier @ twice the price of my camera.
TAOFLEDERMAUS Woah! What are you doing here? Lol
YES
Nice camera work.
Amazing video!
the crew on that bird are something else, but you could not pay me enough to ride along doing that stuff hehe
Nice shots!
Very Nice!

i loved the dc10 she was a great air plane
@Larry Dockery Still is, always will be Larry.
As imagens foram incríveis.
The Old DC 10 Plane! They turned them into water Tankers. Good
The pilot must be a man, flying around and around. HE won't stop for directions!
Unlike some video commentators. This guy knows exactly where he is and what he is doing!
Listen to some Dead Can Dance while watching this video…… Amazing!!!
can i use this for my own video
No, you may not. that is not the way it works. This is my video and it cannot be used. Thank you for asking, but it cannot be reused.
Maverick wanted a super-soaker for Christmas
Landing light rh burned.
How come there's not many DC-10s or MD-11s anymore??? I Love the tail engine design.

DC-10s burn too much fuel compared with a 757 or 767.

@The Angry General Only FedEx General.
@@wcolby Sorry wcolby, but no way I could trust a twin engine crossing an ocean. That's just me.
Was the guy lost? All I saw was a plane flying around in circles. Did I miss the part where they drop the water?
The aircraft does a practice pass then drops the "water" , there were two planes & both water drops were obscured by smoke.
Allow me to clear up a common misunderstanding -- fire-fighting planes don't actually drop water.
By flying around the fire, they consume oxygen which starves the fire.
Uh, no. The planes do drop water and fire retardant. A hundred planes buzzing around the fire could not consume enough oxygen to starve the fire.

Near Monterrey

Damn. It never dropped its suppression media.
You can not trust what you see.
Was this the fire in big sur cali
Nope, this was the Loma fire, it started September 26, 2016. It burned about 4,500 acres near Morgan Hill and San Jose, CA.
The fire you are referring to is the Soberanes fire.
910 and 912
too bad he wasn`t dropping on the fire. all he did was fly around
This is what I recorded. I am sure you believe what you think.
