Must have been like a homecoming for Molly, Bronwyn, Kyle and Dominic... all grads of Berklee College of Music in Boston (#1 Arts College) and damn they are masters of their instruments. Shelby Means ain't no slouch either... lady can sing and play a mean acoustic bass.
Whoa. Just flashed back to Pete Fountain. We missed the two additions at The Birchmere show. A LOT of individual talent on that stage. IMO, made possible by the Secret Sauce -- Shelby Means, bass player and harmonist extraordinaire.
Yes, she provides a great foundation. If I was on bass I might be tempted to walk it a bit more and get slightly more adventurous... but in the absence of a drummer, it is mostly down to the bass player to hold the rhythm together, so she is probably doing the right thing.
The jazz solo style spotlight on each musician in turn is nice, but why do they do this for the whole song? I would love to hear all 7 playing together. A few more microphones would transform the sound.
I don't know how I got here but im glad I did!
They're definitely different.

I agree. The bass player gave a nice, steady rhythm. Well done.

Because classic style Bluegrass music is historically the band playing around a single microphone. Everyone gets a chance to move in and take a turn.
The guy with hat TOO SHOWY. Damn.
nice to see white people having fun without being criticized for their color
