Thanks for having us!! 🤘🏻
Thank you Molly and Jerry for pulling all these people into the studio with you. It's a wonderful album and we are blessed by it. This session is icing on the cake!
Molly, saw you first time at Delfest, really appreciated not just your (and band's) performance but also your overall engagement in the festivities! Every time we turned around you were joining someone else's band on stage, and obviously having great fun! It made a better festival for us.
that was great molly and band
u have new sub
Glad to see your mandolin player back on his feet. When I saw you at the Guild in Menlo Park in April, he was playing hurt. It was so cool to see you at home. (Green and white forever... (Class of '83))
*Raised 2 on The Tuttle’s*
Like Watching family,
Waiting 10 yrs 2 see Molly~The Stars Align~There is a tiny outdoor venue~ Very special~ Those 2 are no longer‘children’ & will be there with daddy-O🤙😍❤️🔥TAF🍞🧀👉Twangy as F’k💨💥🎸🗿🧙🏻♂️
The musicianship here is nuts. These folks are masters of their instruments.
@SoftserveSodium You do realize Jerry Douglas is one of the very best that ever strapped on a Dobro? More awards then Carter's green Liver pills. 2 signature Dobro model guitars from two different manufacturers. Side man for Alison Krause for decades.
Molly and the gang - thank you for sharing your talent with us on the Tube.
Could not be said any better.
These folks are like a bunch of clowns in a Circus..
They are intense
Tuttles Bass player is SMOKESHOW.........LETS GO.......
That bassist sings great harmony. This is quite a quintet.
She sure does sing great harmony. And sometimes those harmonies are lower than the melody. I love that. Takes a smart person to do that.
As a slap double bassist who made his name singing harmony.....does she fuggin' ever. Looks a lot better than me too.
And Really Eazy on the Eyes!!
Shelby was part of Della Mae for a long while, another great bluegrass band. Cannot recommend them enough.
@@remicardona_poly Thank you. I am definitely checking them out.
🍻
Has to be world record for how much talent and joy you can squeeze into a small space. That had me swinging my flares.
Storytelling, bass lines and dobro riffs, bronwyn pulling strings, a few of my favorite things! ❤
I LOVE to see that bass player. Her happy smiles and happy attitude ADDS so much to not only her... but the group as a whole. That.....plus all of everyone's talent in that entire band....how could you NOT have AWESOME 😎 in the bag?
I fell in love with Shelby too. She not only look's "DREAMY" but when you watch various video's, she's KIND & CARING, adjusting the Mic's to each player. Alway's smileing, especially those 'glinting eye's'.... Just wish she wasn't Married & me being 75 year's old ! LOL
Is there a rule that female upright bass players have to have a happy attitude? I'm thinking of Nadine Landry in Foghorn Stringband.
@@roadie3124 I never heard Nadine that I know of. But that's so great. I've seen other female upright bass players. I'm assuming they were happy and smiling, too. But they never stuck out to me. For some reason, Shelby INDEED does. She's pretty, yes, VERY VERY.... that's true. But I watch her and FEEL her happiness. That comes from a Human Soul!! Like Alison Krauss and Emmylou Harris. Those ladies don't just sing pretty to my ears and they're pretty to my eyes, although that's true on both counts......my SOUL turns flips. Most of the time my tears are unstoppable. They grab me from down deep..... not just on the surface. And I truly believe it's all a GOD thing. ❤️
Molly's a damn genius!
She's starting to hit her stride in songwriting.
Her guitar work is light years ahead.
Her CBS Saturday Morning session. Will blow your minds!
This whole damn world is better. Because Molly Tuttle exists in it.
Couldn’t agree more
She can sure play good.
She's dang pretty, too. PBS Newshour did a profile on her.
"Starting????"
She wrote "Take the Journey" at least as far back as 2019.. That's as good a song as any by anyone.
There are many decent people in the world but few radiate it.... Molly is one of those that radiates a personality that one cannot help but love..... and I will not forget to mention her great talent........................ and also her beauty.
Jerry Douglas is in my soul! None better. When I was at the festival of the bluegrass at age 6, the power went out. He made his was out in the crowd, found me in my daddy's arms, and played me to sleep. Defining moment in my music memories.
I'm not sure why I clicked on this in the first place but it exceeded all my expectations spectacularly! What a terrific performance.
uh, maybe it was Molly and Jerry's names in the title, a couple of fabulous musicians, at least that's why I did! 😀🙂
destiny, fate, and lot mean a future that someone or something will have. destiny and fate both suggest that the future has been decided or planned by God or by some godlike power. destiny often suggests a future that includes something great and important
Gotta' love seein' the young people carry on the tradition of actually playing together live. And kickin' it too!!
I agree.
Roots music is where talent seems to flourish. This is where pretenders quickly get exposed and flushed out.
Oh my goodness, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway are amazing. Blessed for having seen them for the first time.
This group is 3 times the fun because each musician displays that they love what they are doing together!
Molly is a national treasure! Yes, so much great music these days, and plenty of it done by young artists, which is just great to see, and hear!
She definitely is a national treasure. The world needs to hear her music and see her talent.
Shelbass thumping and singing those gorgeous harmonies. What a band.
What up brother Jason! Hope all is good and you are making music. I FINALLY am a bit (Branch Bash Cabin Jams playlist) Just saw a few Clifftop peeps at Mount Airy. Down the road, man!! Cheers!
@@blenderlip hey man. Always making music. Haven’t really been to Mr. Airy in some time. Hope to get back someday.
@@ibassnote What are your latest projects Jason?
@@blenderlip I have been Rhiannon Giddens bass it for about eight years and do a lot of side projects both here in the states and my home in Japan.
@@ibassnote Awesome. Are you playing anywhere in Japan? I live in Tokyo part time, would love to catch you if you ever play anywhere.
Speaking from UK , England . Bluegrass isn't big here but this is great - it might have something to do with the incredible ability on instruments and voices. Wow!
That is one incredible group of musicians, 3 great songs, and yeah I have the album now. I grew up in the days of solid country and blue grass music, but Molly with her talents has completely renewed my faith that it exists as strong today as when I was a young man. She helps me to feel young again. She's just incredible.
Gosh! the bass player with that ponytail stole my heart : )
The entire band is on fire. Amazing stuff.
I play in a folk band in England and we have some decent musicians on board but we cannot get close to this kind of frenetic, bluegrass rhthym. I'm convinced you have to be born into it. This is just a joyous piece of music. A great song played by fabulous musicians.
England has had plenty of talented bands for the last 60 years. I see no reason why great bluegrass couldn’t come from there too.
@@notbraindead7298 I’m sure there are many bands playing it here. But I find it extremely difficult. The speed they play at is incredible.
@@stevepaige-music3412 "You have to be born into it." indeed. Molly's dad is a well known bluegrass instructor in the south SF bay area. Look up "El Cumbanchero TaterPatch" on yt to see Molly and siblings pushing speed when they were 8,10,12 years old.
@@douglaswilliams5556 thanks. I will do.
They have to learn the timing. Folk bands play behind the beat, Bluegrass right on top of it. It can be hard if you learned folk style. My guitar player grew up fiddling in Scotland. It took a while to straighten him out. Of course I learned some things from him too. It is much easier to play good instrumental breaks when the band is right on top of the beat.
This is why I love America! You folks ain't faking it! Canada sends it!!!
Canada has the dead south and colter wall
I can't stop once the music hits my ears 🤣😂
Song and album title " crooked tree" a real MASTERPIECE and so much credit to these incredible musicians !!!
Such a group of extremely talented musicians...Legendary Jerry Douglas, Molly Tuttle, they are all great violinist, mandolin, bass player (shining)...Thanks for this awesome show Paste Magazine
I believe 4 of the 5 have been named Bluegrass Player of the Year for their respective instrument. 2 have been named Bkuegrass Association Musician of the Year. But, I might be wrong.
Crooked Tree is an outstanding song, goes deep inside me.
Don’t get better than this. ❤❤
When I started writing music in 2012, Molly wrote me on soundcloud, and was SO pumped another Tuttle was somewhere out there writing chunes. I can't say I had success like she did. But i'll sure as hell never forget that message and encouragement from Molly!
YAY! for the fiddle player!!!!
All of them absolutely perfect, wonderful
Wow…😳 Masterful playing & singing at the highest level. And love their going old school and sharing one mic. Very, very, very cool. Keep it up !!!! 🎸🔥
Your Grampa you say. That is awesome you own it! So Proud of your Song Dooley's Farm. Dooley's down in the holler trying to make a dollar. One of my favorite songs too. Xoxo Molly
I love that they’re unplugged and sharing one mic. Pure sound.
Agreed. Seems to be 3 mikes though, 2 extras for the instrument pickup. You get real feeling between the players doing it this way, no leads dangling in the way, no foldback needed, everybody can hear everybody so you get the best, tightest sound available. Just noticed that the Bass seems to be plugged in though. Not suppressed as they are quite quiet otherwise.
@@helenandrichard The Punch Bros tend to do this as well nowadays...
the "Appalachian mixing board" often produces a startlingly good mix
From what I understand of Bluegrass music, one microphone is upholding the tradition from when it first broadcast on radio so the musicians would each step up to take their solo. The two waste high mic's are a Modern addition
Amazing, amazing! Masters if their crafts! Simply mind -blowing stuff. Wow
Thanks Molly for playing at RAINcouver Folk Festival July 16.
We love you, please come back !!!
Massive Talent, Great Group!!!!!
Great sound Molly and Co.
hello how are you doing it nice seeing you here?
Not a bluegrass fan particulary, but the way these guys bring it, that's just something else... Also impressed by the way they're using just one mike stand, doing the mixing just by moving aroud... Brilliant!
Never quite understand the "I'm not a fan but" intro... Maybe you're a little bit of a fan?
Molly has done some blues and southern rock. And she’s fabulous at it. She can sing any style and excels on the guitar no matter the genre.
Having one mic on stage that all the musicians play into on stage is a very common element in Bluegrass music and related forms of music that goes back to the early part of the 20th Century. The Carter Family played this way, so did Bill Munroe, Ralph and Carter Stanley and many contemporary players do this too, from The Old Crow Medicine Show, Chatham County Line, Watchhouse Band and The Tillers being just a few who regularly perform with just one main mic on the stage.
@@michaelgarrity6090 Del McCoury too!
This just appeared in my recommended.
INSTANT SUB.
.............. S O ................. N I C E .................... ! ..............GREAT MUSICIANS !
Wow! Such incredible musicianship by extraordinarily talented people. Kudos to the team at Paste for doin' up right! Sounds and looks great.
Strange feeling to be tapping your foot to the beat with tears streaming down your face. Then laughing at the same time! Crooked Tree is an excellent song with a beautiful message! Well done Molly, Well Done!
Not sure how much were tears versus sweat! It was hot that Sunday.
I had the same reaction hearing for the first time... feel like a bit of a crooked tree myself.
Same with me. Has never happened before.
The violinist, double bass and mandolin player and slide guitarist are excellent, thank for introducing them !
That's called a dobro player in Bluegrass.and that's called a fiddle.
The Dobro player is a living legend named Jerry Douglas, he's an added bonus not normally with the band
@@mbsnyderc thanks for the update!
Holy Smokes, people!!!
Blown away doesn't come close to describing what I'm feeling after hearing and watching that!
I don't know what line I'm over but it's a line out of sight for sure.
Holy Smokes!!!
I ❤ MY MOLLY her Band is Amazing as well !
What a beautiful group of talented players. Luv how each gets their turn to shine. Jerry and Molly came up with a gem.
I have no words... None that won't get me in trouble anyway 😂 Holy hell is she good! Great Band. 💪
Ms. Tuttle is an AMAZING talent. Hitting her stride with really good songwriting. That said, I am totally IN LOVE with her bass player here, the ALSO gifted Shelby Means. Of course, Jerry Douglas and ALL of this Golden Highway group shine like a bright light in the darkness. Long may you RUN!
Me too; the bass player and the way she smiles so sincerely; I'd never heard of these guys and I have to thank the youtube algorithm for figuring out that this video would be perfect for me
There are musicians/singers/songwriters that are the best and best known in their town.....some go to Nashville and make a name and have a few hits and a career. Others are BORN GIFTED WITH "OFF THE CHART" AWESOME MUSICAL ABILITIES!! A WHOLE CLASS ALL TO THEMSELVES THAT RARELY EVER ("IF" EVER) CAN OTHER MUSICIAN/MUSICIAN WANNABES EVER REACH THAT LEVEL!! Molly is there....Jerry Douglas is there....Tommy Emmanuel.....Billy Strings....and some others that make your JAWS DROP IN AMAZEMENT!! MY!! MY!! SLAP MY JAWS, VERN!!!!!
Wow. Too much chemistry and Talent to adequately describe. Brilliant.
You’re MORE than welcome. MUSIC always
The gal playin fiddle is just awesome!
Yes, it's really beautiful playing. 12:05 it sounds like her name is Ron Winkiepines (?) Couldn't find any other music by her on yt.
@@sdrtcacgnrjrc Her name is Bronwyn Keith-Hynes.You could find an album by Mile Twelve.

She also has a killer solo album, too, called "Fiddlers Pastime."
I have to totally agree with you.
Stunning, Molly - just stunning. The heart, the joy, the skill. From my heart - thank you.

You are totally right. Outstanding duet.
Very fine blue grass picking, Ladies and Gentlemen .... and of course MR. DOBRO himself = Jerry Douglas !!! God bless, jj
What great set! Thanks @Paste for bringing all the acts this weekend for those of us that couldn’t be there in person.
It was our absolute pleasure!
Wowsa! That's room full of great music. Spot on playing.
This performance set my little dusty room on fire. Wonderful artists. How I would have loved to have been at this and at many of Molly's concerts. Bluegrass, a fusion of Country and Folk, and a fusion of Folk and Blues are a joy to listen to.
You left out Jazz and a few other genres. But you prolly ought to tend to that 🔥 first...
@@fretfix1 I shall tend. I shall tend. But, first, a fresh pot of coffee.
I can't take so many beautiful people seriously
Music is too damn good.
A giant in the music world, Jerry Douglas is one class act. Met him briefly a couple times. If you ever get the opportunity, you'll agree.
Five beautiful people making beauiful musik. Cant stop viewing this video. Thanks
Love the recording setup - just a few mikes in a room - brilliant musicians, great sound.
Excellent sound and band....thank you for sharing the love!
The violinist and steel guitar sounds awesome.
That would be a fiddle & resophonic guitar .... but YES, totally agree.
Molly Tuttle, so good she's a habit for me right now!!!........... ☮💔✌🏼......✍🏼
Guitar playing goes without saying....genius. Songwriting is much more profound. What a gem of a guitarist and brilliant musicians!
Desmond has a stand on market place ..Molly is singer in a band..OBLADI ..OBLADA life goes on.....
We were lucky enough to see Molly and the Golden Highway in California a few mos ago... musical perfection!
That was SO Good... Musically and Vocally... supporting each and one another for an exceptional display of talents...
What an amazing project this is. Sooo much big talent in that room together!
Molly has such beautiful musical taste. The songs she writes and the songs of others she covers always come from her heart. The sounds she and those with whom she surrounds herself make are a blessing. and embellishment to the Universe.
like 150 very beautiful sharing dear.....Wow very well done my sweet friend. Outstanding performance and excellent presentation…God bless you always. Stay blessed always dear.
hello how are you doing it nice seeing you here?
What great individual talents everyone of you, and what a great band you make. Love how you play Bluegrass but are absolute head-banging Rockers! Beautiful sound.
Molly, I first heard Doc Watson back in 1972 and I had never heard anyone like him before especially his flat picking. My brother first told me about him while attending Appalachian State. I think Doc would be proud to know there is a young girl like you out there flat picking at your present level. I am recently enjoying your Crooked Tree hit and was happy you did so well at the IBMA Awards. Keep up the good work and song writing.
I saw Molly with Bela Fleck and holy cow did they put on a show. Please tell Shelby to return my heart. Thnx.
The highlight of my week. Thanks.
Molly 'Hatchet' Tuttle has a nice ring to it!
