thanks for the great video, you are correct a new gearcase is prohibitively expensive and a second hand tiller can be just as good. I truly don't understand why the parts are so expensive and on top of that paying the labor to a shop, would end up costing more than a new tiller.
I just wish one manufacturer would stick to one solid great quality tiller, making full parts, servicing and repairs for 50+ years. A product that could be easily repaired by the same company for a lifetime. Everyone would jump on board to own one. I couldn't care for fancy new models with new tech, bells, and whistles, if they are difficult to repair, find parts, company goes out of business, and have to keep buying new ones.

Thanks baiji, this was my first tiller and it wasn't a good tiller. If you plan on buying a tiller buy a honda tiller. The same ones that they rent at home Depot. F501 of you have a small yard. You can buy their bigger units if you have a big yard. They are the best tiller I have seen so far. Relatively easy to use and repair if something goes wrong.
Is there supposed to be transmission fluid inside its case? Wonder if it will work without any?
@@mechanicunderthetree7543 So u would think the fluid or grease that was in it is more like the thick grease put of grease gun instead of a more regular transmission type thinner fluid?
Thank you for showing the inside of this super cheap, throw-away piece of junk. Why in world would anyone make a case that is permanently crimped together? More so, why could they not put a zerk at the top end of the case so the owner could grease the unit and keep the case full of grease? I was given one of these (Yardman) pieces of crap recently that still seems to be sound, so I am going to drill, thread, and insert a zerk at the top of the case and place a tiny weep/pressure relief hole next to it. I will then pump the sucker full of grease and keep it topped off. Thanks again for all the work to show us how the inside is laid out. Another thing, it appears the bearings are simple steel bushings on steel shafts. This means the unit needs to be stored under cover out of the elements.
No fluid just chains which can be lubricated, but it an enclosed system.
a master fabricator could fix this
The sad part is that all that work and labor almost makes it not worth repairing. Unless you can do it yourself. Making a part like this yourself. It's just a sheet metal part.
I found a transmission on eReplacementParts for $160 yeah. Replace the whole thing, but ……………
It has been backed ordered for 6 months plus. I can’t even remember 🥲 I was giving up hope in getting the part so I was looking to see if I could fix it. My tines spine, but once I put it in the ground it stops spinning. Gears or turning rod is slipping.
I think if I spend all that time taking it a part it may not be repairable any way!
