1of 2 MTD Roto-Tiller

Part one of a MTD tiller. The tine blades are "free wheeling" and the tine shaft has far too much side to side play. The engine is not running, so the covers are removed to decide if the machine will be repaired.

I had to fix the chain in my Merry Tiller 18 years ago. Still working today. Got the roto-spader done. Other than breaking bolts and re-tapping, was easier than I thought with the help of a friend who owns a machine shop. Great vid buddy!

thanks for the great video, very helpful. problem is a new gearcase is prohibitively expensive, and hiring a shop to do it, it will cost more than a new tiller.

what's the model number of the original machine with all the problems I have one very similar and I've only found 1 page of a MW parts diagram. I'd love the actual model number and yours is pretty much an exact copy of what we have.

Doesn't look like it's economically feasible to fix it, too many issues eh!!☺

805ROADKING It's always fixable, the old stuff anyways.
Economicly, that's what ur free time is for.
To buy one now made in China will cost about $400 to $500 new now.
The old stuff is well built, most of those parts can be gotten from local industrial bearing supply houses like McCarr.
Well worth it.
